Abstract

A driver interface for a grinding head includes a center plate having top and bottom surfaces, an outer edge, a mounting channel in the top surface, and mounting pads on the bottom surface, each pad having a raised edge. An upper clamping plate is inserted within the mounting channel. A lower clamping plate defines disk locating apertures and fastens to the bottom surface of the center plate so that each of the disk locating apertures surround the raised edge of a mounting pad. The upper and lower clamping plates are removably fastened to the center plate. A disk attacher having an anchoring portion and a disk receiving portion bends around the outer edge of the center plate so that the upper clamping plate when fastened to the center plate clamps the anchoring portion between the upper clamping plate and the mounting channel, and so that the lower clamping plate when fastened to the center plate clamps the disk receiving portion to a mounting pad and within one of the disk locating apertures.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
- 19 . (canceled)

. A driver for a grinding head, comprising:
a plate having a top surface, a bottom surface, and a center; means for attaching a rotating shaft to the center of the plate; means imbedded between the top surface and the bottom surface for removably attaching one or more abrasive surfaces to the bottom surface; and means attached to the bottom surface for transmitting rotational motion from the rotating shaft to the one or more removable abrasive surfaces.

. The driver of claim 20 , wherein the rotating shaft attachment means comprises one or more mounting holes formed through the plate, one or more threaded fasteners, and one or more flanged ends of a ball joint assembly.

. The driver of claim 20 , wherein the imbedded removable attachment means lies entirely below the top surface and entirely above the bottom surface.

. The driver of claim 20 , wherein the imbedded removable attachment means comprises a permanent magnet.

. The driver of claim 20 , wherein the plate defines one or more retaining holes configured to frictionally engage the imbedded removable attachment means.

. The driver of claim 24 , wherein at least two of the one or more retaining holes are located an equivalent radial distance from the center of the plate.

. The driver of claim 24 , comprising a plurality of retaining holes located radially symmetrically about the center of the plate.

. The driver of claim 20 , wherein the rotational motion transmission means comprises one or more dogs protruding from the bottom surface of the plate.

. The driver of claim 27 , further comprising a plurality of dogs located radially symmetrically about the center of the plate.

. The driver of claim 27 , wherein at least two of the one or more dogs are located an equivalent radial distance from the center of the plate.

. The driver of claim 27 , wherein the plate defines a plurality of threaded holes radially symmetrically arrayed about the center of the plate, and wherein each of the one or more dogs is configured for threaded engagement with the one or more of the threaded holes.

. The driver of claim 20 , further comprising a means for arresting the rotational motion attached to the top surface.

. The driver of claim 31 , wherein the arresting means comprises an anti-rotation pin extending from the top surface.

. The driver of claim 32 , wherein the rotating shaft attachment means comprises a ball joint assembly, wherein the ball joint assembly is configured for rotational coupling to a drive arm configured to engage the anti-rotation pin to arrest rotation of the plate with respect to the drive arm.

. The driver of claim 32 , wherein the anti-rotation pin further comprises a means for engaging a cotter pin.

. The driver of claim 32 , wherein the arresting means further comprises a pin holder integrally extending from the top surface.

. The driver of claim 35 , wherein the pin holder is imbedded at least partially within the driver, extending vertically and perpendicularly from the top surface.

. The driver of claim 35 , wherein the pin holder defines one or more cotter pin insertion holes.

. The driver of claim 20 , wherein the bottom surface further comprises one or more extraction slots defined about an outer edge of the bottom surface.

. The driver of claim 38 , wherein the one or more extraction slots are defined radially symmetrically about the center of the plate.
