Systems and methods for sharing content externally from a group-based communication platform
Abstract
A computer-implemented method includes displaying first content within an interface of a group-based communication channel of a group-based communication platform on a first user device associated with a member of the group-based communication channel; receiving a request from the first user device to share the first content outside of the group-based communication platform; in response to the request from the first user device, generating a link to the first content for sharing outside of the group-based communication platform; receiving a request to view the first content from a second user device, wherein the request to view the first content originated outside of the group-based communication platform and is associated with the link; and displaying the first content on the second user device.

2 . A computer-implemented method comprising:
transmitting first data for displaying first content within a first interface of a group-based communication channel of a group-based communication platform on a first user device associated with a member of the group-based communication channel; receiving a first request from the first user device to share the first content; in response to the first request, automatically generating a link to the first content for sharing; transmitting the link to one or more other users comprising at least a second user of a second user device based at least in part on the first request; receiving a second request to view the first content from the second user device, wherein the second user of the second user device is a non-member of the group-based communication channel; and in response to the second request, granting access to display the first content on the second user device based at least in part on the second user being a member of the group-based communication platform.
3 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the second request is received based at least in part on a selection of the link at the second user device.
4 . The method of claim 2 , further comprising:
receiving a third request to view the first content from a third user device based at least in part on a selection of the link at the third user device, wherein the link was forwarded to the third user device.
5 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the first request indicates one or more access parameters defining one or more access permissions for the link, wherein granting access to display the first content on the second user device is further based at least in part on the one or more access permissions.
6 . The method of claim 5 , wherein the one or more access parameters are based at least in part on requesting user identification information.
7 . The method of claim 2 , further comprising:
transmitting the link for display at the first user device based at least in part on the first request.
8 . The method of claim 2 , further comprising:
copying the link to a clipboard of the first user device based at least in part on the first request.
9 . The method of claim 2 , wherein:
the first content comprises a document, a file, or both; and the link is to the document, the file, or both.
10 . The method of claim 2 , further comprising:
granting access for the second user to view the first content based at least in part on the link; and restricting access for the second user to edit the first content based at least in part on the link.
11 . The method of claim 2 , further comprising:
granting access for the second user to add a comment to the first content, add a reaction to the first content, or both based at least in part on the link.
12 . The method of claim 2 , further comprising:
granting access for the second user to edit the first content based at least in part on the link.
13 . The method of claim 2 , further comprising:
restricting access for the second user to download the first content onto the second user device based at least in part on the link.
14 . The method of claim 2 , further comprising:
receiving, from the first user device, an indication of an expiration of the link; and restricting access to the first content based at least in part on the expiration of the link.
15 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the link supports sharing the first content with other users within a same workspace as a first user of the first user device associated with the member of the group-based communication channel.
16 . The method of claim 2 , further comprising:
receiving a third request to view the first content from a third user device; in response to the third request, transmitting, for display at the third user device, an authentication prompt for a third user of the third user device; receiving authentication information for the third user based at least in part on the authentication prompt; and granting access to display the first content on the third user device based at least in part on the authentication information for the third user.
17 . The method of claim 16 , wherein the authentication prompt is transmitted based at least in part on the third user being a non-member of the group-based communication platform.
18 . The method of claim 2 , further comprising:
refraining from granting access for the second user to view other content of the group-based communication channel different from the first content.
19 . An apparatus, comprising:
one or more memories storing one or more programs; and one or more processors coupled with the one or more memories and individually or collectively operable to execute the one or more programs to cause the apparatus to:
transmit first data for displaying first content within a first interface of a group-based communication channel of a group-based communication platform on a first user device associated with a member of the group-based communication channel;
receive a first request from the first user device to share the first content;
in response to the first request, automatically generate a link to the first content for sharing;
transmit the link to one or more other users comprising at least a second user of a second user device based at least in part on the first request;
receive a second request to view the first content from the second user device, wherein the second user of the second user device is a non-member of the group-based communication channel; and
in response to the second request, grant access to display the first content on the second user device based at least in part on the second user being a member of the group-based communication platform.
20 . The apparatus of claim 19 , wherein the second request is received based at least in part on a selection of the link at the second user device.
21 . A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing one or more programs, the one or more programs comprising instructions executable by one or more processors to:
transmit first data for displaying first content within a first interface of a group-based communication channel of a group-based communication platform on a first user device associated with a member of the group-based communication channel; receive a first request from the first user device to share the first content; in response to the first request, automatically generate a link to the first content for sharing; transmit the link to one or more other users comprising at least a second user of a second user device based at least in part on the first request; receive a second request to view the first content from the second user device, wherein the second user of the second user device is a non-member of the group-based communication channel; and in response to the second request, grant access to display the first content on the second user device based at least in part on the second user being a member of the group-based communication platform.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
