Abstract

A tray ( 100 ) for accommodating a coiled medical device, such as a catheter assembly ( 700 ), includes a first compartment ( 101 ), a second compartment ( 102 ), and a third compartment ( 103 ). The catheter assembly ( 700 ) and devices associated with a catheterization procedure, such as syringes ( 701,702 ) containing sterile water and lubricating jelly and a specimen container ( 703 ) can be disposed within the tray. A first barrier ( 105 ) and second barrier ( 106 ) separate the compartments. The barriers can have openings ( 121,122 ) therein to accommodate large syringes or to enable the first compartment ( 101 ) to be used as a lubricant applicator for the catheter. The first compartment ( 101 ) can include a stair-stepped contour ( 115 ) such that the syringes are held at different depths to facilitate ease of use. The various devices can be disposed within the tray ( 100 ) in accordance with their order of use in the catheterization procedure.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed is:

         1 . A catheter packaging system comprising:
a contoured surface defining at least three compartments separated by barriers and a perimeter wall, the at least three compartments comprising: a first compartment comprising a first compartment base member; a second compartment comprising a second compartment base member; a first barrier separating the first compartment from the second compartment; and a first syringe disposed within the first compartment; a second syringe disposed within the first compartment; a catheter assembly comprising a fluid bag attached to a catheter and disposed within the second compartment; and a sterile specimen jar for capturing samples taken from a catheter of the catheter assembly disposed within the contoured surface; wherein:
the first syringe and the second syringe are ordered within the contoured surface in accordance with their use during a catheterization procedure; and
the first compartment supports the first syringe and the second syringe at different heights.

2 . The catheter packaging system of claim 1 , the first compartment defining a lubricating jelly applicator to lubricate at least a portion of the catheter assembly.

3 . The catheter packaging system of claim 1 , the first compartment comprising a base member defining a mnemonic device indicating which of the first syringe or the second syringe should be used first in the catheterization procedure.

4 . The catheter packaging system of claim 1 , at least one of the first compartment base member or the second compartment base member defining an incline.

5 . The catheter packaging system of claim 1 , the first compartment base member disposed in a non-parallel orientation relative to the second compartment base member.

6 . The catheter packaging system of claim 1 , the first compartment to support the first syringe at a shallower depth than the second syringe.

7 . The catheter packaging system of claim 1 , the first barrier defining a catheter passage.

8 . The catheter packaging system of claim 7 , the contoured surface defining a second barrier defining an opening aligned with the catheter package.

9 . The catheter packaging system of claim 1 , wherein the first compartment defines a lubricating jelly application compartment.

10 . The catheter packaging system of claim 9 , the lubricating jelly application compartment to receive lubricating jelly from the one of the first syringe or the second syringe to lubricate the catheter when the catheter is passed from the second compartment into the first compartment.

11 . The catheter packaging system of claim 1 , each of the first compartment and the second compartment open along a side of the contoured surface opposite the second compartment base member.

         12 . A catheter packaging system, comprising:
a tray having a first compartment for accommodating one or more syringes and a second compartment for accommodating a coiled medical device, the first compartment comprising a first compartment base member and the second compartment comprising a second compartment base member, with a barrier separating the first compartment from the second compartment; a first syringe and a second syringe disposed in the first compartment; a catheter assembly disposed in the second compartment, the catheter assembly comprising a catheter coupled to a fluid bag by coiled tubing; and a specimen container for capturing patient samples taken from the catheter disposed within the tray; the first compartment to support the first syringe at a shallower depth within the tray than the second syringe; and the first compartment defining a mnemonic device indicating which of the first syringe or the second syringe should be used first in a catheterization procedure.

13 . The catheter packaging system of claim 12 , the tray comprising a third compartment with specimen container disposed in the third compartment.

14 . The catheter packaging system of claim 12 , the first compartment defining a lubricating jelly applicator to lubricate at least a portion of the catheter assembly.

15 . The catheter packaging system of claim 12 , the first compartment to support the first syringe and the second syringe at different depths within the tray.

16 . The catheter packaging system of claim 12 , further comprising printed instructions directing a user to discharge contents of the first syringe into the first compartment to lubricate the catheter assembly.

17 . The catheter packaging system of claim 16 , the printed instructions further directing the user to pass at least a portion of the catheter assembly into the first compartment, and through the contents of the first syringe.

18 . The catheter packaging system of claim 1 , the first compartment defining one or more contours for accommodating flanges of one or more of the first syringe or the second syringe.
