Abstract
The present invention relates to a composition comprising mannose oligosaccharide and a process for making such. The present invention further relates to a composition comprising mannose oligosaccharide for use in the treatment of a human or animal.

1 . A method for improving growth performance in animals, comprising:
administering a mannose oligosaccharide composition to an animal, the mannose oligosaccharide composition comprising:
a mannose oligosaccharide content of mannose oligosaccharide having a degree of polymerization (DP) of 3 or more that is 30 wt. % on a dry basis or higher; and
a dimannose content of from 10 wt. % to 35 wt. % on a dry basis;
wherein the composition has a water solubility of from 20% to 90% measured as a 10 wt. % aqueous solution of the composition at 40° C.
2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein administering the mannose oligosaccharide composition to an animal comprises administering from 0.01 g to 20 g per kilogram of body weight per day of the mannose oligosaccharide composition to the animal.
3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the animal comprises poultry, pigs, ruminants, horses, aquatic animals, pets, or humans.
4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the mannose oligosaccharide composition further comprises less than 0.1 wt. % on a dry basis of beta-glucan.
5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the mannose oligosaccharide content of mannose oligosaccharide having a degree of polymerization (DP) of 3 or more comprises 60 wt. % on a dry basis or higher.
6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the dimannose content comprises from 10 wt. % to 25 wt. % on a dry basis.
7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the mannose oligosaccharide composition further comprises a fructose content of 0.5 wt. % to 10 wt. % on a dry basis.
8 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the growth performance comprises an increase in weight gain or an increase in feed intake.
9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the mannose oligosaccharide composition is a food, animal feed or pet food product; or a food, animal feed or pet food ingredient.
10 . The method of claim 9 , wherein mannose oligosaccharide composition is present in the food, animal feed, or pet food product in an amount of from 0.1 wt. % to 0.5 wt. % based on the weight of the food, animal feed or pet food product.
11 . The method of claim 9 , wherein mannose oligosaccharide composition is present in the food, animal feed, or pet food product in an amount of from 0.01 wt. % to 0.05 wt. % based on the weight of the food, animal feed or pet food product.
12 . A method for reducing microbial or bacterial contamination or for reducing infection in or on an animal, comprising:
administering a mannose oligosaccharide composition to an animal, the mannose oligosaccharide composition comprising: a mannose oligosaccharide content of mannose oligosaccharide having a degree of polymerization (DP) of 3 or more that is 30 wt. % on a dry basis or higher; and a dimannose content of from 10 wt. % to 35 wt. % on a dry basis; wherein the composition has a water solubility of from 20% to 90% measured as a 10 wt. % aqueous solution of the composition at 40° C.
13 . The method of claim 12 , wherein administering the mannose oligosaccharide composition to an animal comprises administering from 0.01 g to 20 g per kilogram of body weight per day of the mannose oligosaccharide composition to the animal.
14 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the animal comprises poultry, pigs, ruminants, horses, aquatic animals, pets, or humans.
15 . The method of claim 12 , wherein reducing microbial or bacterial contamination or for reducing infection in or on an animal comprises reducing microbial or bacterial contamination or infection with E. coli or Salmonella.
16 . The method of claim 15 , wherein reducing microbial or bacterial contamination or for reducing infection in or on an animal comprises reducing microbial or bacterial contamination or infection with E. coli.
17 . The method of claim 16 , wherein reducing microbial or bacterial contamination or for reducing infection in or on an animal comprises reducing microbial or bacterial contamination or infection with Salmonella.
18 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the mannose oligosaccharide composition further comprises less than 0.1 wt. % on a dry basis of beta-glucan.
19 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the dimannose content comprises from 10 wt. % to 25 wt. % on a dry basis.
