Abstract

Methods for treating or inhibiting cancer and/or one or more related conditions by administering to a subject in need thereof an effective amount of a compound of Formula (I) a prodrug thereof or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt of any of the foregoing. For example, methods for treating AML, MDS, neutropenia, and/or mucositis comprising administering a pharmaceutical composition comprising a compound of Formula (I) are described.

         25 . A method for reducing or preventing at least one side effect resulting from at least one of chemotherapy and radiotherapy in preparation for stem cell or bone marrow transplantation in a subject, the method comprising administering to the subject at least one compound chosen from a compound of Formula (I): 
       
         
           
           
               
               
           
         
       
       and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof;
 wherein the at least one compound is administered to the subject prior to, simultaneously with, or shortly after administration of at least one of chemotherapy and radiotherapy to the subject; and 
 wherein the subject is thereafter administered at least one of stem cell transplantation or bone marrow transplantation. 
 
     
     
         26 . The method of  claim 25 , wherein the at least one compound is the sodium salt of the compound of Formula (I). 
     
     
         27 . The method of  claim 25 , wherein the at least one compound is administered to the subject in an amount of from 200 mg to 4000 mg per day. 
     
     
         28 . The method of  claim 25 , wherein the at least one compound is administered to the subject in an amount of from 1 mg/kg to 100 mg/kg per day. 
     
     
         29 . The method of  claim 25 , wherein the at least one compound is administered to the subject prior to, simultaneously with, or shortly after administration of radiotherapy to the subject. 
     
     
         30 . The method of  claim 25 , wherein the at least one compound is administered to the subject prior to, simultaneously with, or shortly after administration of chemotherapy to the subject. 
     
     
         31 . The method of  claim 25 , wherein the subject is thereafter administered bone marrow transplantation. 
     
     
         32 . The method of  claim 25 , wherein the subject is thereafter administered stem cell transplantation.

The method of  claim 25 , wherein the at least one of chemotherapy and radiotherapy comprises one or more agents chosen from hypomethylating agents, alkylating agents, alkaloids, antimetabolites, topoisomerase inhibitors, ribonucleotide reductase inhibitors, adrenocortical steroid inhibitors, enzymes, antimicrotubule agents, targeted therapeutic agents, retinoids, and combinations thereof. 
     
     
         34 . The method of  claim 25 , wherein the at least one of chemotherapy and radiotherapy comprises melphalan. 
     
     
         35 . The method of  claim 25 , wherein the at least one of chemotherapy and radiotherapy comprises busulfan. 
     
     
         36 . The method of  claim 25 , wherein the at least one of chemotherapy and radiotherapy comprises fludarabine.

         52 . The method of  claim 25 , wherein the at least one side effect comprises mucositis. 
     
     
         53 . The method of  claim 25 , wherein the at least one side effect comprises neutropenia. 
     
     
         54 . The method of  claim 25 , wherein the subject has been diagnosed with at least one of acute myelogenous leukemia (AML) and myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) and wherein the at least one side effect comprises at least one of mucositis and neutropenia. 
     
     
         55 . The method of  claim 54 , wherein the at least one compound is the sodium salt of the compound of Formula (I). 
     
     
         56 . The method of  claim 55 , wherein the at least one compound is administered to the subject in an amount of from 200 mg to 4000 mg per day or from 1 mg/kg to 100 mg/kg per day. 
     
     
         57 . The method of  claim 56 , wherein the at least one of chemotherapy and radiotherapy comprises at least one of melphalan, busulfan, fludarabine, carmustine, cyclophosphamide, etoposide, methotrexate, thiotepa, and topotecan. 
     
     
         58 . The method of  claim 57 , wherein the wherein the at least one of chemotherapy and radiotherapy comprises melphalan. 
     
     
         59 . The method of  claim 58 , wherein the wherein the at least one side effect comprises mucositis. 
     
     
         60 . The method of  claim 59 , wherein the subject has been diagnosed with acute myelogenous leukemia (AML). 
     
     
         61 . The method of  claim 60 , wherein the subject is thereafter administered stem cell transplantation.
