Abstract
A user-assembled free weight includes a container made of a contiguous material and having at least one cavity. A heavy curable fill material is placed inside the at least one cavity. Together the heavy curable fill material and the container produce at least a target weight and the heavy curable fill material is non-removable from the container.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedWhat is claimed is:
1 . A user-assembled free weight comprising:
a hollow container made of a contiguous material and having a length, a width and a height, the hollow container comprising:
a first end wall that includes an opening for access into an interior of the container;
a second opposing closed end wall;
a first side wall that extends from the first end wall to the second end wall and defines the length of the container;
an opposing second side wall spaced apart from the first side wall, extends from the first end wall to the second end wall and defines the length of the container;
a first widthwise wall spaced apart from the first end wall to define the interior of the container;
a second widthwise wall spaced apart from the second end wall to define the interior of the container;
a first lengthwise wall spaced apart from the first side wall to define the interior of the container and connecting the first widthwise wall to the second widthwise wall;
a second lengthwise wall spaced apart from the second side wall to define the interior of the container and connecting the first widthwise wall to the second widthwise wall;
a hollow handle that extends from the first widthwise wall to the second widthwise wall and is spaced apart from the first lengthwise wall and from the second lengthwise wall; and a heavy curable material placed inside the container through the opening in the first end wall, the heavy curable fill material being located inside the container and the handle and being non-removable; and wherein the opening in the first end wall has a width that is less than a width of the first end wall and at least as great as a distance between the first lengthwise wall and the second lengthwise wall.
2 . The user-assembled free weight of claim 1 , wherein the opening in the first end wall is surrounded by a lip that protrudes outwardly from the first end wall.
3 . The user-assembled free weight of claim 1 , wherein the width of opening in the first end wall is greater than the distance between the first lengthwise wall and the second lengthwise wall.
4 . The user-assembled free weight of claim 1 , wherein the first lengthwise wall and the second lengthwise wall extend an entirety of the height of the container.
5 . The user-assembled free weight of claim 1 , wherein the first lengthwise wall and the second lengthwise wall extend a portion of the height of the container.
6 . The user-assembled free weight of claim 1 , wherein the first side wall and the second side wall have a first height where the first side wall intersects the first end wall and where the second side wall intersects the second end wall and wherein the first side wall and the second side wall have a second height that is less than the first height where the first lengthwise wall and the second lengthwise wall extend from the first widthwise wall to the second widthwise wall.
7 . The user-assembled free weight of claim 1 , wherein the first lengthwise wall comprises an outer facing surface having a recessed arcuate surface, the recessed arcuate surface of the first lengthwise wall faces the handle.
8 . The user assembled free weight of claim 7 , wherein the second lengthwise wall comprises an outer facing surface having a recessed arcuate surface, the recessed arcuate surface of the second lengthwise wall faces the handle.
9 . The user-assembled free weight of claim 8 , wherein the recessed arcuate surface of the first lengthwise wall is configured to engage with an outer surface of a barbell and the recessed arcuate surface of the second lengthwise wall is configured to engage with an outer surface of a barbell.
10 . A user-assembled free weight comprising:
a hollow container made of a contiguous material and comprising:
a first end cavity defined between a first end wall having an opening for access into an interior of the container and a first widthwise wall and between a first side wall and a second side wall;
a second closed end cavity defined between a second closed end wall and a second widthwise wall and between the first side wall and the second side wall;
a first connecting cavity that connects the first end cavity to the second end cavity and is defined between the first side wall and a first lengthwise wall;
a second connecting cavity spaced apart from the first connecting cavity that connects the first end cavity to the second end cavity and is defined between the second side wall and a second lengthwise wall;
a hollow handle that extends from the first widthwise wall to the second widthwise wall and is spaced apart and located between the first lengthwise wall and the second lengthwise wall; and a heavy curable material placed inside the container through the opening in the first end wall, the heavy curable fill material being located inside the container and the handle and being non-removable; and wherein a height of the first connecting cavity and the second connecting cavity are less than a height of the first end cavity and the second end cavity.
11 . The user-assembled free weight of claim 10 , wherein the first connecting cavity, the second connecting cavity and the hollow handle extend from a center of the height of the first end cavity and the second end cavity.
12 . The user-assembled free weight of claim 10 wherein at least one of the first lengthwise wall and the second lengthwise wall has an outer facing surface that faces the hollow handle and includes a recess having an arcuate surface.
13 . The user-assembled free weight of claim 12 , wherein the arcuate surface of the recess is configured to engage with an outer surface of a barbell.
14 . The user-assembled free weight of claim 10 , wherein the opening in the first end wall has a width that is less than a width and a height of the first end wall and at least as great as a distance between the first lengthwise wall and the second lengthwise wall.
15 . The user-assembled free weight of claim 10 , wherein the opening in the first end wall is surrounded by a lip that protrudes outwardly from the first end wall.
16 . A user-assembled free weight comprising:
a hollow container made of a contiguous material and comprising:
a first end cavity defined between a first end wall having an opening for access into an interior of the contain and a first widthwise wall and between a first side wall and a second side wall;
a second closed end cavity defined between a second closed end wall and a second widthwise wall and between the first side wall and the second side wall;
a first connecting cavity that connects the first end cavity to the second end cavity and is defined between the first side wall and a first lengthwise wall;
