Break state detection for reduced capability devices
Abstract
Systems, methods, and devices are described herein for placing secondary content into a break of unknown duration in a stream of primary content. In one aspect, the described techniques may include streaming a segment of primary content, for example, by a reduce capability client device, such as a mobile device or tablet. The device may receive information indicative of a break in the streaming of the primary content. The device may play secondary content based on receiving the information indicative of the break. The device may determine when a next segment of the primary content is available, and begin streaming the next segment of the primary content upon detecting that the second segment of the primary content is available.

20 . A computer-implemented system configured to:
create, for a reduced capability device after a first representation of a primary content is created and a secondary content necessarily is played immediately after the first representation, a second representation of the primary content that continues from the first representation, wherein the second representation has a playtime duration that is determined based on at least one of a status of live programming; and emit, to the reduced capability device via a cloud-based service, a first content package comprising the second representation, wherein the first package is provided to a first plurality of different online properties, wherein the cloud-based service is configured to provide a second content package to each of a second plurality of different online properties instantaneously with the first provision, wherein the second set of properties are implemented at a second, different set of non-reduced capability devices, wherein only a single content package is available to the reduced capability device at a same time, the availability being at a live streaming Uniform Resource Indicator (URI), and wherein at least one of the provisions is performed based on a promotion of the cloud-based service initiated via a user interface.
21 . The system of claim 20 , being further configured to:
request, from the reduced capability device via an out-of-band signal, presence of new primary content; and responsive to an indication of the request, resume streaming of the primary content by generating and emitting tertiary content, wherein the emission is to the reduced capability device as the new primary content, wherein the resumed streaming is prioritized below provision of secondary content, and wherein the request is sent to a status Application Programming Interface (API) endpoint that calls another API involved in content management.
22 . The system of claim 20 , wherein, for at least one of a number of portions of the secondary content, a duration of the secondary content portion is of an unknown duration.
23 . The system of claim 20 , being further configured to switch between a plurality of primary portions of a single content piece and the secondary content.
24 . The system of claim 20 , being further configured to provide one or more owners that specify an allowed property for each of a plurality of publications, wherein the one or more owners are respectively associated with the packages.
25 . The system of claim 24 , being further configured to direct, via a configuring of a filter via at least one of the one or more owners, the packages to be respectively published in a set of other, non-targeted locations.
26 . The system of claim 20 , being further configured to request, via a player of the reduced capability device to a proxy service, for the presence.
27 . The system of claim 26 , being further configured to:
responsive to a response from the proxy service, obtain a next chunk, being a logically segmented asset from a Live Video Software (LVS) unit no longer generating the primary content; and rewrite one or more URIs in a playlist of a variant manifest for a plurality of streams configured to provide one or more break segmentation boundaries for changing from a live linear asset encoding to providing one or more out-of-band signals, wherein the out-of-band signals are emitted from a live video proxy API configured to request the variant manifest from a Content Distribution Network (CDN), and wherein each segment is identified in the playlist for causing further operation of the reduced capability device.
28 . The system of claim 21 , wherein the emitted tertiary content is representative of the primary content.
29 . The system of claim 28 , wherein the request queries for an identifier communicated in one or more channels.
30 . A computer-implemented system configured to:
determine whether to submit out of band signaling based on a type of processing capacity of each of a plurality of downstream User Equipment (UEs), wherein the type of the processing capacity indicates whether the respective UE is configured to support a plurality of contemporaneous streams, wherein one of the UEs has a higher capacity one of the types and is configured to switch between a plurality of buffered streams, and wherein another one of the UEs having a capacity lower than the higher capacity performs substantially less buffering than the one UE.
31 . The system of claim 30 , being further configured to:
provide a plurality of extensible operations, wherein each of the operations is configured to add a set of content via one or more Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) and plug-ins, and wherein the operations allow automatic and manually-triggered ingestion of the set of the content.
32 . The system of claim 31 , being further configured to:
store a plurality of attributes of a plurality of online properties separate from a property entry that enables a Media Integration and Exchange (MIX) platform to support a plurality of types of the properties.
33 . The system of claim 32 , wherein the support is performed using a configuration that does not add any new data constructs.
34 . A computer-implemented system configured to:
switch, via a non-reduced capability device, between a plurality of primary content streams, wherein the primary content streams represent primary content, wherein a first of the streams is created after a previously emitted second of the streams, wherein the first stream is buffered prior to being played at a video player thereabout, and wherein the buffering is performed upon the first stream becoming available at the non-reduced capability device while a set of secondary content is presented at the video player and while at least one of another stream is being provided to a reduced capability device or another plurality of streams is being provided to another non-reduced capability device; and provide, respectively to an online property via a cloud-based service, the streams.
35 . The system of claim 34 , wherein the video player is detected as reaching an end of a manifest, and
wherein the manifest comprises an end-list tag indicating completion of a segment from a Content Distribution Network (CDN.
36 . The system of claim 34 , wherein one or more of the emissions is performed for each of a plurality of media types, including live broadcast content, an advertisement, and video on demand content.
37 . A computer-implemented method, comprising:
providing, via one or more platform Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) from a set of sources, a media ingestion unit; triggering, via the media ingestions unit, a plurality of indexing capabilities, enabling a single media asset management interface configured for a storage of a plurality of content packages and for a search of one or more of the packages; determine the type of the content based on the content; and responsive to the determination, providing, via one or more signals, targeted content delivery, indicating when content is live such that flexible, near-real-time content is provided with user-configured advertisements.
38 . The method of claim 37 , further comprising:
providing a video delivery system configured to proxy one or more connections between a video player and a plurality of streaming video assets, wherein the video delivery system integrates directly with an encoding system for delivering live video and with a media asset manager configured to deliver on-demand video.
39 . The method of claim 37 , wherein a plurality of configuration details of the video player are stored or accessible via a local library.Cited by (0)
