Abstract
A cover for a drain. The cover may be used with roof drains or other drains and allow for fluid collection into the drain even with buildup of debris around or on the cover. The cover may have a lower flange or skirt portion with a large area and extending outwardly in an arcuate or polygonal configuration and having openings for fluid flow. The lower portion may be oriented at a positive, zero, or negative angle with respect to the horizontal. The lower portion may be wider than a drain body over which the cover is used. An upper portion may be connected to the lower portion and may be more vertically-oriented than the lower portion and having openings.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A drain cover assembly comprising:
a cover having an arcuate skirt defining a central axis, wherein the skirt is swept out arcuately less than 360 degrees about the central axis, with at least a portion of the skirt extending outward and downward from an upper portion toward an outer edge in a first direction that is generally away from the central axis and generally away from the upper portion, wherein the first direction forms an angle A with a portion of the central axis that extends below the skirt and the angle A is greater than or equal to sixty degrees, the skirt forms a plurality of openings extending through the skirt and configured to allow fluid to flow through the openings, and the outer edge defines a series of gaps configured to allow fluid to flow through the gaps; and a mounting assembly configured to secure the cover to a mount that is configured to couple with a mounting surface adjacent a drain.
2 . The assembly of claim 1 , wherein the outer edge is swept out arcuately less than 360 degrees about the central axis.
3 . The assembly of claim 1 , wherein the skirt is swept out arcuately less than or equal to 270 degrees about the central axis.
4 . The assembly of claim 1 , wherein the angle A is greater than or equal to sixty-five degrees.
5 . The assembly of claim 1 , wherein the skirt is swept out circularly about the central axis.
6 . The assembly of claim 1 , wherein the cover further comprises a dome above the skirt, the dome having a lower portion attached to the upper portion of the skirt, wherein the dome has a sidewall that forms a plurality of openings extending through the sidewall.
7 . The assembly of claim 6 , wherein the dome extends inward from the lower portion to the top portion of the dome in a second direction, wherein the second direction is generally toward the central axis, and wherein the second direction forms an acute angle B with a portion of the central axis that extends above the dome.
8 . The assembly of claim 6 , wherein the lower portion has a radius R 1 , the outer edge has a radius R 2 , and wherein R 2 is at least twice R 1 .
9 . The assembly of claim 7 , wherein the acute angle B is less than the angle A.
10 . The assembly of claim 1 , wherein the mounting assembly comprises an outer lip attached to the mount.
11 . The assembly of claim 1 , wherein the mounting assembly comprises a catch attached to the mount configured to interface with an insert connected with the cover.
12 . The assembly of claim 1 , wherein the mounting assembly comprises an insert coupled to the mount, the insert being configured to interface with an opening of a housing structure of the cover.
13 . The assembly of claim 1 , wherein the mounting assembly comprises a pipe stem and mounting collar to attach to the cover via one or more of screw threads, clips, a snap fit, a friction fit, an interference fit, fasteners or adhesive.
14 . A drain cover assembly comprising:
a cover having an arcuate skirt defining a central axis and extending outward and downward from an upper portion to an outer edge in a first direction that is generally away from the central axis and generally away from the upper portion, wherein the first direction forms an angle A with a portion of the central axis that extends below the skirt, wherein the angle A is greater than or equal to sixty degrees, wherein the skirt forms a plurality of openings extending through the skirt, and wherein the outer edge is swept out arcuately less than 360 degrees about the central axis; and a locking assembly configured to secure the cover to a mount that is configured to couple with a mounting surface adjacent a drain.
15 . The assembly of claim 14 , wherein the skirt is swept out arcuately less than 360 degrees about the central axis.
16 . The assembly of claim 14 , wherein the angle A is greater than or equal to sixty-five degrees.
17 . The assembly of claim 14 , wherein the cover further comprises a dome located above the skirt, the dome having a lower portion attached to the skirt, and wherein the dome extends upward from the lower portion to a top portion of the dome in a second direction that is generally away from the skirt.
18 . The assembly of claim 17 , wherein the dome extends inward from the lower portion to the top portion of the dome in the second direction, wherein the second direction is generally toward the central axis, and wherein the second direction forms an acute angle B with a portion of the central axis that extends above the dome.
19 . The assembly of claim 17 , wherein the lower portion has a radius R 1 , the outer edge has a radius R 2 , and wherein R 2 is at least twice R 1 .
20 . The assembly of claim 14 , wherein the locking assembly comprises an outer lip attached to the mount or a catch attached to the mount configured to interface with an insert connected with the cover.Cited by (0)
