Systems and methods for planning medical procedures
Abstract
Computer systems and computer-implemented analysis methods may be used for assistance in planning and/or performing a medical procedure, such as percutaneous nephrolithotomy or percutaneous nephrolithotripsy. The method may include receiving one or more radiographic images of an anatomical structure of a patient, generating a display of the radiographic image(s), generating at least one request for user input to identify features of the anatomical structure, receiving user input identifying the features of the anatomical structure, identifying at least one access plan based on the received user input, and generating a display of the identified access plan(s) associated with the radiographic image(s). The method may include generating a patient template that indicates an insertion site according to the identified access plan(s).

21 . A method for planning a medical procedure, the method comprising:
receiving a model of an anatomical structure generated based on a plurality of images of the anatomical structure, the model including an object associated with the anatomical structure that is to be accessed during the medical procedure; providing, to a user device for display on the user device, a user interface including the model and a menu, wherein, based on a selection of a menu option from the menu, a prompt requesting input via the user device to identify the object is displayed on the user interface; receiving, from the user device, the input identifying the object that is provided to the user interface responsive to the prompt; determining a route to access the object during the medical procedure based on the input; and providing, to the user device for display, an updated model including the route.
22 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the input is a first input and the method further comprises:
receiving, from the user device, a second input identifying a portion of the route on the displayed model that is provided to the user interface, wherein the route is determined further based on the second input such that the route includes the portion of the route identified by the second input.
23 . The method of claim 22 , wherein determining the route comprises:
automatically identifying, using one or more image recognition processes and the portion of the route identified by the second input, a remaining portion of the route.
24 . The method of claim 21 , further comprising:
prior to providing the user interface, automatically identifying the object in the model, wherein the automatically identified object is visually indicated in the model included in the user device, and the prompt requesting input via the user device to identify the object includes a request to confirm the automatically identified object.
25 . The method of claim 21 , further comprising:
determining one or more characteristics of the object, the one or more characteristics including a dimension of the object, a density of the object, a composition of the object, a location of the object, or an orientation of the object.
26 . The method of claim 25 , wherein determining the route is further based on the one or more characteristics of the object.
27 . The method of claim 25 , wherein, based on a selection of another menu option from the menu, the one or more characteristics of the object are displayed on the user interface.
28 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the input is a first input and the method further comprises:
receiving, from the user device, a second input manipulating one or more of the model or the updated model; and providing, to the user device for display, a modified version of one or more of the model or the updated model corresponding to the manipulation.
29 . The method of claim 21 , further comprising:
receiving patient data associated with a patient undergoing the medical procedure; receiving patient data associated with a plurality of other patients; comparing the patient data associated with the patient to the patient data associated with the plurality of other patients to identify one or more reference patient profiles; and determining the route further based on the one or more reference patient profiles.
30 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the route includes an insertion site, and the method further comprises:
generating a patient template that indicates the insertion site, wherein the patient template includes a first marking identifying a location for needle insertion and a second marking identifying a needle trajectory following insertion.
31 . The method of claim 30 , wherein, based on a selection of another menu option from the menu, the patient template is printed for transfer to a patient undergoing the medical procedure.
32 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the route includes an insertion site, and the method further comprises:
providing a location of the insertion site to an imaging device, the imaging device comprising a light source operable to direct light on the location of the insertion site.
33 . A system for planning a medical procedure, the system comprising:
at least one memory storing instructions; and at least one processor operatively connected to the at least one memory and configured to execute the instructions to perform operations, including:
receiving a model of an anatomical structure generated based on a plurality of images of the anatomical structure, the model including an object associated with the anatomical structure that is to be accessed during the medical procedure;
providing, to a user device for display on the user device, a user interface including the model and a menu, wherein, based on a selection of a menu option from the menu, a prompt requesting input via the user device to identify the object is displayed on the user interface;
receiving, from the user device, the input identifying the object that is provided to the user interface responsive to the prompt;
determining one or more characteristics of the object identified by the input;
determining a route to access the object during the medical procedure based on the input and the one or more characteristics of the object; and
providing, to the user device for display, an updated model including the route.
34 . The system of claim 33 , wherein, based on a selection of another menu option from the menu, the one or more characteristics of the object are displayed on the user interface.
35 . The system of claim 33 , wherein the input is a first input and the operations further comprise:
receiving, from the user device, a second input identifying a portion of the route on the displayed model that is provided to the user interface, wherein the route is determined further based on the second input such that the route includes the portion of the route identified by the second input.
36 . The system of claim 33 , further comprising:
prior to providing the user interface, automatically identifying the object in the model, wherein the automatically identified object is visually indicated in the model included in the user device, and the prompt requesting input via the user device to identify the object includes a request to confirm the automatically identified object.
37 . A user interface configured to be displayed on a user device for planning a medical procedure, the user interface comprising:
a panel displaying a model of an anatomical structure generated based on a plurality of images of the anatomical structure, the model including an object associated with the anatomical structure that is to be accessed during the medical procedure; and a menu including at least a first menu option and a second menu option, wherein:
based on a selection of the first menu option, a prompt requesting input to identify the object is displayed on the user interface, the user interface configured to receive the input to identify the object responsive to the prompt; and
based on a selection of the second menu option, one or more characteristics determined for the object are displayed on the user interface; and
wherein an updated model including a route to access the object is displayed by the panel, the route determined based on the received input to identify the object and the one or more characteristics determined for the object.
38 . The user interface of claim 37 , wherein the input is a first input and the user interface is further configured to receive a second input identifying a portion of the route on the model displayed in the panel, and the route included in the updated model is determined further based on the second input such that the route includes the portion of the route identified by the second input.
39 . The user interface of claim 37 , wherein the panel is a first panel, and the user interface further comprises:
at least a second panel displaying an image of the anatomical structure, wherein the first panel and the second panel are displayed on the user interface simultaneously.
40 . The user interface of claim 37 , wherein the menu further includes a third menu option, and based on a selection of the third menu option, a patient template generated based on the route is printed for transfer to a patient undergoing the medical procedure.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
