Abstract
A process and/or system for producing product that includes providing biogas, removing carbon dioxide from the biogas, transporting the upgraded biogas, providing the transported upgraded biogas and fossil-based gas for methane reforming. The methane reforming produces syngas that contains hydrogen and carbon dioxide. The product has lifecycle greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduced at least in part, by at least some of the carbon dioxide from the syngas and at least some of the carbon dioxide from the biogas being captured and stored.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 - 24 . (canceled)
25 . A method of producing product, the method comprising:
providing feed for methane reforming, the methane reforming producing syngas comprising carbon dioxide and hydrogen, the feed comprising fossil-based gas and renewable natural gas, the renewable natural gas produced in a process comprising:
converting biomass to biogas comprising methane and carbon dioxide, and
subjecting the biogas comprising methane and carbon dioxide to biogas upgrading; and
producing the product using at least part of the syngas, wherein the product has lifecycle greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduced at least in part, by at least some of the carbon dioxide from the syngas and at least some of the carbon dioxide from the biogas being captured and stored.
26 . The method according to claim 25 , wherein the product comprises fuel, wherein the syngas is purified to produce a stream enriched in hydrogen, and wherein producing the fuel comprises providing the stream enriched in hydrogen for hydroprocessing, the hydroproces sing comprising reacting at least some of the hydrogen with crude-oil derived liquid hydrocarbon.
27 . The method according to claim 26 , wherein the fuel comprises gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, or any combination thereof, having renewable content.
28 . The method according to claim 25 , wherein the biomass comprises manure.
29 . The method according to claim 25 , wherein the biomass comprises an organic fraction of municipal solid waste (MSW).
30 . The method according to claim 25 , wherein the process in which the renewable natural gas is produced further comprises:
injecting upgraded biogas produced from the biogas upgrading into a natural gas distribution system, and wherein the renewable natural gas is withdrawn from the natural gas distribution system and is associated with environmental attributes of the injected upgraded biogas.
31 . The method according to claim 25 , wherein the methane reforming comprises steam methane reforming, wherein a portion of the feed is feedstock for the methane reforming, and wherein another portion of the feed is fed to a combustion zone for the steam methane reforming, a combustion of the other portion of the feed producing heat for the steam methane reforming and producing flue gas.
32 . The method according to claim 31 , wherein carbon dioxide from the flue gas is not part of a carbon capture and storage process.
33 . The method according to claim 31 , wherein the feedstock for the methane reforming comprises at least some of the fossil-based gas.
34 . The method according to claim 31 , wherein at least some of the fossil-based gas is fed to the combustion zone of the steam methane reforming.
35 . The method according to claim 25 , wherein at least some of the carbon dioxide that is captured and stored is sequestered in at least one geological formation.
36 . The method according to claim 25 , wherein at least some of the carbon dioxide that is captured and stored is used for enhanced oil recovery (EOR).
37 . The method according to claim 25 , wherein the product comprises fuel.
38 . The method according to claim 37 , wherein the method further comprises generating or causing generation of one or more credits.
39 . The method according to claim 25 , wherein the product comprises ammonia, fertilizer, or a combination thereof.
40 . The method according to claim 25 , wherein the product comprises fuel produced from a Fischer-Tropsch process.
41 . The method according to claim 25 , wherein the product comprises methanol.
42 . The method according to claim 25 , wherein the product comprises hydrogen.
43 . The method according to claim 42 , wherein the hydrogen has a carbon intensity that is less than 11 gCO 2 eq/MJ.
44 . A method of producing product, the method comprising:
generating hydrogen from a process comprising methane reforming, the methane reforming producing syngas comprising carbon dioxide and hydrogen, a feed for the methane reforming comprising fossil-based gas and renewable natural gas, the hydrogen used to produce the product, the renewable natural gas produced in a process comprising:
converting biomass to biogas comprising methane and carbon dioxide, and
subjecting the biogas comprising methane and carbon dioxide to biogas upgrading;
wherein the product has lifecycle greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduced at least in part, by at least some of the carbon dioxide from the syngas and at least some of the carbon dioxide from the biogas being captured and stored, and wherein the hydrogen has a carbon intensity that is less than 11 gCO 2 eq/MJ.
45 . A method of producing product, the method comprising:
providing hydrogen having a carbon intensity that is less than 11 gCO 2 eq/MJ, the hydrogen produced from a process comprising methane reforming, the methane reforming producing syngas comprising carbon dioxide and hydrogen, a feed for the methane reforming comprising fossil-based gas and renewable natural gas, the renewable natural gas produced in a process comprising:
converting biomass to biogas comprising methane and carbon dioxide, and
