Abstract

Disclosed are systems, methods, and non-transitory computer-readable storage media for managing project tasks using content items. A user can create tasks within a content item. The tasks can be assigned to users and/or be assigned due dates. The content item can be shared with other users such that updates to the content item (e.g., updates to the tasks) can cause sending notifications to users associated with the content item. When a task in the content item is updated, all members of the project can be notified of the updated status of the task. A task list for a project can be created that aggregates tasks from multiple content items associated with the project. Tasks can be organized in the task list according to the content item the task was created in. Updates to tasks in the task list can cause corresponding updates to the tasks in the content items.

         1 . A method comprising:
 receiving, by a content management system, a selection of a content item managed by the content management system; computing, by the content management system, a plurality of relevance scores that estimate a level of relevance between the content item and a plurality of candidate projects based on a semantic similarity between the content item and other content items associated with the plurality of candidate projects; based on the plurality of relevance scores, providing, by the content management system, for display a subset of the plurality of candidate projects; receiving, by the content management system, a request to add the content item to a first candidate project of the subset of the plurality of candidate projects; and based on the request, associating, by the content management system, the content item with the first candidate project.

         2 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
 identifying, by the content management system, a plurality of suggested members to add to the first candidate project by performing a natural language processing analysis of content associated with a plurality of candidate members; and providing, by the content management system, for display the plurality of suggested members.

         3 . The method of claim 2 , further comprising:
 identifying, by the content management system, the plurality of candidate members based on an interaction history of the plurality of candidate members with users associated with the first candidate project.

         4 . The method of claim 2 , further comprising:
 identifying, by the content management system, the plurality of candidate members based on an interaction history of the plurality of candidate members with the content item.

         5 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
 identifying, by the content management system, a suggested content item to add to the first candidate project based on a comparison between the suggested content item and the content item; and providing, by the content management system, for display the suggested content item.

         6 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
 identifying, by the content management system, a suggested content item to add to the first candidate project based on a comparison between the suggested content item and the first candidate project; and providing, by the content management system, for display the suggested content item.

         7 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
 identifying, by the content management system, a suggested content item to add to the first candidate project based on a comparison between the suggested content item and interaction history of members to the first candidate project; and providing, by the content management system, for display the suggested content item.

         8 . A non-transitory computer readable medium comprising one or more sequences of instructions, which, when executed by one or more processors, causes a content management system to perform operations comprising:
 identifying, by the content management system, a content item managed by the content management system displayed via a user account; computing, by the content management system, a plurality of relevance scores that estimate a level of relevance between the content item and a plurality of candidate projects based on a semantic similarity between the content item and other content items associated with the plurality of candidate projects; based on the plurality of relevance scores, providing, by the content management system, for display a subset of the plurality of candidate projects; receiving, by the content management system, a request to add the content item to a first candidate project of the subset of the plurality of candidate projects; and based on the request, associating, by the content management system, the content item with the first candidate project.

         9 . The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 8 , further comprising:
 identifying, by the content management system, a plurality of suggested members to add to the first candidate project by performing a natural language processing analysis of content associated with a plurality of candidate members; and providing, by the content management system, for display the plurality of suggested members.

         10 . The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 9 , further comprising:
 identifying, by the content management system, the plurality of candidate members based on an interaction history of the plurality of candidate members with users associated with the first candidate project.

         11 . The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 9 , further comprising:
 identifying, by the content management system, the plurality of candidate members based on an interaction history of the plurality of candidate members with the content item.

         12 . The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 8 , further comprising:
 identifying, by the content management system, a suggested content item to add to the first candidate project based on a comparison between the suggested content item and the content item; and providing, by the content management system, for display the suggested content item.

         13 . The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 8 , further comprising:
 identifying, by the content management system, a suggested content item to add to the first candidate project based on a comparison between the suggested content item and the first candidate project; and providing, by the content management system, for display the suggested content item.

         14 . The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 8 , further comprising:
 identifying, by the content management system, a suggested content item to add to the first candidate project based on a comparison between the suggested content item and interaction history of members to the first candidate project; and providing, by the content management system, for display the suggested content item.

         15 . A system, comprising:
 one or more processors; and a memory having programming instructions stored thereon, which, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the system to perform operations comprising:
 receiving a selection of a content item;
 computing a relevance score that estimates a level of relevance between the content item and an existing project based on a semantic similarity between the content item and other content items associated with the existing project;
 based on the relevance score, providing for display a suggestion to add the content item to the existing project;
 receiving a request to add the content item to the existing project; and
 based on the request, associating the content item with the existing project.

         16 . The system of claim 15 , wherein the operations further comprise:
 identifying a plurality of suggested members to add to the existing project by performing a natural language processing analysis of content associated with a plurality of candidate members; and providing for display the plurality of suggested members.

         17 . The system of claim 16 , wherein the operations further comprise:
