Abstract
Embodiments of golf club heads, golf clubs, and methods to manufacture golf club heads and golf clubs are generally described herein. In one example, a golf club head includes a body portion, a face portion, a port connected to an interior cavity of the body portion, a filler material in the interior cavity, and first and second mass portions coupled to the body portion. The first mass portion is cylindrical. Each of the first and second mass portions includes a material having a different density than the body portion density. A distance from the second mass portion to a toe portion edge of the body portion is less than a distance from the first mass portion to the toe portion edge. The mass of the second mass portion varies in a top-to-sole direction. Other examples and embodiments may be described and claimed.

1 . A golf club head comprising:
a body portion comprising a material having a body portion density, an interior cavity, a toe portion with a toe portion edge, a heel portion with a heel portion edge, a front portion with a front opening, a back portion with a back wall portion, a top portion with a top portion edge, and a sole portion with a sole portion edge; a face portion coupled to the front portion to close the front opening; a filler material in the interior cavity; a port extending from a port opening on the back wall portion to the interior cavity; a first mass portion coupled to the body portion, the first mass portion being cylindrical and comprising a material having a first density greater than the body portion density; and a second mass portion coupled to the body portion, the second mass portion comprising a material having a second density different from the body portion density, wherein a distance from the second mass portion to the toe portion edge is less than a distance from the first mass portion to the toe portion edge, and wherein a mass of the second mass portion varies in a top-to-sole direction.
2 . A golf club head as defined in claim 1 , wherein the port is configured to receive the first mass portion to close the port, wherein the port opening is a first port opening and the port comprises a second port opening located between the first port opening and the interior cavity, and wherein the second port opening is smaller than the first port opening.
3 . A golf club head as defined in claim 1 , wherein the back wall portion comprises a recessed portion, wherein the port opening is in the recessed portion, and wherein a cover portion is coupled to the recessed portion to cover the port opening.
4 . A golf club head as defined in claim 1 , wherein the second density is greater than the body portion density.
5 . A golf club head as defined in claim 1 , wherein the second mass portion is located inside the body portion.
6 . A golf club head as defined in claim 1 , wherein at least a portion of the second mass portion is coupled to the filler material.
7 . A golf club head as defined in claim 1 , wherein a center of gravity of the first mass portion is at or proximate to a center of gravity of the body portion.
8 . A golf club head comprising:
a body portion being hollow to define an interior cavity, the body portion comprising a toe portion with a toe portion edge, a heel portion with a heel portion edge, a front portion, a back portion with a back wall portion, a top portion with a top portion edge, and a sole portion with a sole portion edge, the back wall portion comprising an upper back wall portion, a lower back wall portion located farther aft relative to the upper back wall portion, and a ledge portion between the upper back wall portion and the lower back wall portion, the ledge portion comprising:
a first ledge portion extending from a location at or proximate to the toe portion edge toward the heel portion edge;
a second ledge portion extending from the first ledge portion toward the heel portion edge; and
a third ledge portion extending from a location at or proximate to the heel portion edge to the second ledge portion;
a face portion coupled to the body portion at the front portion; a filler material in an interior cavity; an external mass portion comprising a material having a greater density than a material of the body portion; and an internal mass portion comprising a material having a different density than a material of the body portion; wherein the external mass portion and the internal mass portion have different shapes, and wherein the second ledge portion at least partially surrounds the external mass portion.
9 . A golf club head as defined in claim 8 , wherein the first ledge portion and the second ledge portion are sloped relative to the sole portion edge.
10 . A golf club head as defined in claim 8 , wherein a maximum width of the interior cavity is between the external mass portion and the internal mass portion.
11 . A golf club head as defined in claim 8 further comprising a port on the body portion connected to the interior cavity, wherein the port is between the external mass portion and the internal mass portion.
12 . A golf club head as defined in claim 8 further comprising a port on the body portion connected to the interior cavity, wherein the port is configured to receive the external mass portion.
13 . A golf club head as defined in claim 8 , wherein a shape of the internal mass portion is configured to at least partially correspond to a shape of a portion of the toe portion edge.
14 . A golf club head as defined in claim 8 , wherein the external mass portion defines a visible portion of a center portion of the back wall portion at or below a horizontal midplane of the body portion.
15 . A golf club comprising:
a shaft having a first end and a second end; a grip coupled to the first end; and a golf club head coupled to the second end, the golf club head comprising:
a body portion comprising a material having a body portion density, an interior cavity, a toe portion with a toe portion edge, a heel portion with a heel portion edge, a front portion with a front opening, a back portion with a back wall portion, a top portion with a top portion edge, and a sole portion with a sole portion edge;
a face portion coupled to the front portion to close the front opening;
a filler material in the interior cavity;
a port extending from a port opening on the back wall portion to the interior cavity;
a first mass portion coupled to the body portion, the first mass portion being cylindrical and comprising a material having a first density greater than the body portion density; and a second mass portion coupled to the body portion, the second mass portion comprising a material having a second density different from the body portion density, wherein a distance from the second mass portion to the toe portion edge is less than a distance from the first mass portion to the toe portion edge, and wherein a mass of the second mass portion varies in a top-to-sole direction.
16 . A golf club as defined in claim 15 , wherein a maximum width of the interior cavity between the back wall portion and the face portion is between the first mass portion and the second mass portion.
17 . A golf club as defined in claim 15 , wherein the face portion comprises a front surface having a plurality of grooves, and a back surface comprising a toe-side groove portion extending in a top-to-sole direction, a heel-side groove portion extending in a top-to-sole direction, and a top-side groove portion extending in a heel-to-toe direction.
18 . A golf club as defined in claim 15 , wherein the face portion comprises a front surface having a plurality of grooves, and a back surface comprising a toe-side groove portion extending in a top-to-sole direction, a heel-side groove portion extending in a top-to-sole direction, and a top-side groove portion extending in a heel-to-toe direction, and wherein the toe-side groove portion, the heel-side groove portion, and the top-side groove portion are connected to define a continuous groove on the back surface of the face portion.
19 . A golf club as defined in claim 15 , wherein a shape of the second mass portion is configured to at least partially correspond to a shape of a portion of the toe portion edge.
