Abstract

Smoking articles are disclosed herein. The present disclosure is directed to a smoking article that comprises a heat source configured to generate heat upon ignition thereof, a substrate material having opposed first and second ends, the heat source being disposed proximate the first end of the substrate material and the substrate material having an aerosol precursor composition associated therewith, a mouthpiece, the mouthpiece being disposed proximate the second end of the substrate material, and a heat transfer component. In one implementation, the heat transfer component comprises a hollow structure and opposing first and second flanges located on respective ends thereof, wherein the hollow structure extends through the heat source such that the heat source is located between the first and second opposing flanges. In another implementation, the heat transfer component is located within the heat source, penetrates at least a portion of the substrate material, and includes a cap located between the heat source and the substrate material.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . A smoking article comprising:
a heat source; a substrate material, the heat source being disposed proximate the substrate material, and the substrate material having an aerosol precursor composition associated therewith; and a heat transfer component comprising a hollow structure and including opposing first and seconds flanges located on respective ends thereof, wherein the hollow structure of the heat transfer component extends through the heat source, and wherein the hollow structure is configured to permit the passage of air therethrough.

2 . The smoking article of claim 1 , wherein the heat source is configured to generate heat upon ignition thereof.

3 . The smoking article of claim 2 , wherein the heat source comprises an extruded monolithic carbonaceous material.

4 . The smoking article of claim 3 , wherein the extruded monolithic carbonaceous material defines one or more grooves extending longitudinally from a first end of the extruded monolithic carbonaceous material to an opposing second end of the extruded monolithic carbonaceous material.

5 . The smoking article of claim 1 , wherein the substrate material comprises at least one of tobacco-containing beads, tobacco shreds, tobacco strips, pieces of a reconstituted tobacco material, tobacco rods, and non-tobacco materials.

6 . The smoking article of claim 1 , further comprising a liner configured to circumscribe the substrate material and at least a portion of the heat source.

7 . The smoking article of claim 1 , further comprising one or more perforations located in the substrate material, the perforations being configured to facilitate airflow through the smoking article.

8 . The smoking article of claim 1 , wherein the substrate material comprises a first substrate material, and further comprising a second substrate material, the second substrate material being disposed proximate the first substrate material.

9 . The smoking article of claim 8 , wherein the second substrate material comprises at least one of tobacco-containing beads, tobacco shreds, tobacco strips, pieces of a reconstituted tobacco material, or tobacco rods.

10 . The smoking article of claim 1 , wherein the substrate material comprises a series of overlapping layers of an initial substrate sheet.

11 . The smoking article of claim 1 , wherein the first and second flanges are attached to the hollow structure.

12 . The smoking article of claim 1 , wherein the first and second flanges and the hollow structure are constructed of the same material.

13 . The smoking article of claim 1 , wherein the first and second flanges are constructed of a different material than the hollow structure.

14 . The smoking article of claim 1 , wherein the hollow structure is in the form of a hollow tube.

15 . The smoking article of claim 1 further comprising a mouthpiece.
