Abstract
The present disclosure relates to a closure 10 suitable for juice containers. The closure comprises an upper portion 11 comprising: a top portion 12 and a skirt portion 13 depending from the top portion 12 . A tamper evident band 16 is joined to the skirt portion 13 by one or more frangible connections 17 , the tamper evident band 16 comprises: a base member 23 ; a plurality of flanges 24 , each flange 24 being hingedly mounted to the base member 23 and each having a first surface 29 and a second surface 30 ; and the first surface 29 of at least one or more of the flanges 24 having at least one projection 31 extending outwardly therefrom.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A closure that is attachable to a container;
the container having an opening, a neck finish adjacent to the opening, the neck finish including a retaining rim arranged a distance from the opening; the closure comprising: an upper portion comprising:
a top portion;
a skirt portion depending from the top portion, said top portion and skirt portion defining a cavity; and
a tamper evident band joined to the skirt portion by one or more frangible connections;
wherein the tamper evident band further comprises:
a base member;
a plurality of flanges, each flange being joined to the base member through a hinge mounting and each having a first surface and a second surface; and
the first surface of at least one or more of the flanges having at least one projection extending outwardly therefrom;
wherein when the closure is in an applied position on the container the at least one projection is retained underneath the retaining rim.
2 . The closure of claim 1 wherein the flanges are configured prior to attachment to the container in a first relatively downward orientation.
3 . The closure of claim 1 wherein the band extends from a proximal end to a distal end and the hinge mounting of each flange is provided by one or more hinge members.
4 . The closure of claim 1 wherein each flange is connected to the base member by two spaced hinge members defining a slot.
5 . The closure of claim 1 wherein each flange of the closure has said one or more projections.
6 . The closure of claim 5 wherein each projection has a shark-tooth shape and having a retaining surface that serves to abut an underside of the retaining rim of the container when the closure is in the applied position on the container.
7 . The closure of claim 1 wherein said one or more of the flanges have at least one protrusion extending from the inner surface of that flange.
8 . The closure of claim 7 wherein adjacent pairs of flanges are provided with said at least one protrusion.
9 . The closure of claim 1 further comprising an inner wall extending downwardly from an underside of the top portion and spaced inwardly of the skirt portion, an inner surface of the inner wall of the closure having an engagement member adapted to complementarily engage with a container engagement member on the neck finish of the container.
10 . The closure of claim 1 wherein the top portion extends outwardly beyond the skirt portion so providing an overhang.
11 . The closure of claim 10 wherein the overhang has a downward curved portion that curves downwardly towards the container.
12 . The closure of claim 11 wherein an outer surface of the skirt portion comprises a grip structure, the grip structure comprising a series of struts that extend downwardly from the overhang at least towards the lower end of the skirt portion.
13 . The closure of claim 1 further comprising one or more ribs that extend downwardly from the underside of the top portion and inwardly from the inner surface of the skirt portion.Cited by (0)
