Novel aerosol-generating substrate comprising cuminum species
Abstract
An aerosol-generating article is provided, including: an aerosol-generating substrate including a homogenised cumin material, the homogenised cumin material including at least 2.5 percent by weight of cumin seed particles on a dry weight basis, between 5 percent by weight and 30 percent by weight of an aerosol former on a dry weight basis, and a binder, the aerosol-generating substrate further including: at least 15 micrograms of procurcumenol per gram of the aerosol-generating substrate, on a dry weight basis, at least 20 micrograms of cuminaldehyde per gram of the aerosol-generating substrate, on a dry weight basis, and at least 10 micrograms of isothymol per gram of the aerosol-generating substrate, on a dry weight basis. An aerosol-generating substrate, an aerosol-generating system including an aerosol-generating device and the aerosol-generating article, an aerosol produced upon heating of the aerosol-generating substrate, and a method of making an aerosol-generating substrate, are also provided.

16 . An aerosol-generating article, comprising:
an aerosol-generating substrate comprising a homogenised cumin material, the homogenised cumin material comprising at least 2.5 percent by weight of cumin seed particles on a dry weight basis, between 5 percent by weight and 30 percent by weight of an aerosol former on a dry weight basis, and a binder, wherein the aerosol-generating substrate further comprises:
at least 15 micrograms of procurcumenol per gram of the aerosol-generating substrate, on a dry weight basis,
at least 20 micrograms of cuminaldehyde per gram of the aerosol-generating substrate, on a dry weight basis, and
at least 10 micrograms of isothymol per gram of the aerosol-generating substrate, on a dry weight basis.
17 . The aerosol-generating article according to claim 16 ,
wherein an amount of cuminaldehyde per gram of the aerosol-generating substrate is at least equal to an amount of procurcumenol per gram of the aerosol-generating substrate, and wherein the amount of procurcumenol per gram of the aerosol-generating substrate is at least equal to an amount of isothymol per gram of the substrate.
18 . The aerosol-generating article according to claim 16 , wherein the aerosol-generating substrate further comprises between 1 milligram and 20 milligrams of nicotine per gram of the aerosol-generating substrate, on a dry weight basis.
19 . The aerosol-generating article according to claim 16 , wherein the homogenised cumin material further comprises between 1 percent by weight and 10 percent by weight of the binder, on a dry weight basis.
20 . The aerosol-generating article according to claim 16 , wherein the binder comprises guar gum.
21 . The aerosol-generating article according to claim 16 ,
wherein the homogenised cumin material further comprises tobacco particles, and wherein a weight ratio of cumin seed particles to tobacco particles is no more than 1:4.
22 . The aerosol-generating article according to claim 16 , wherein the homogenised cumin material in the aerosol-generating substrate is in the form of cast leaf.
23 . The aerosol-generating article according to claim 16 , wherein the homogenised cumin material in the aerosol-generating substrate is in the form of cumin paper.
24 . The aerosol-generating article according to claim 16 , wherein upon heating of the aerosol-generating substrate according to Test Method A, an aerosol is generated comprising:
at least 25 micrograms of procurcumenol per gram of the aerosol-generating substrate, on a dry weight basis, at least 2 micrograms of cuminaldehyde per gram of the aerosol-generating substrate, on a dry weight basis, and at least 1 microgram of isothymol per gram of the aerosol-generating substrate, on a dry weight basis.
25 . The aerosol-generating article according to claim 16 ,
wherein upon heating of the aerosol-generating substrate according to Test Method A, the aerosol generated from the aerosol-generating substrate comprises:
procurcumenol in an amount of at least 0.5 micrograms per puff of aerosol,
cuminaldehyde in an amount of at least 0.05 micrograms per puff of aerosol, and
isothymol in an amount of at least 0.01 micrograms per puff of aerosol,
wherein a puff of aerosol has a volume of 55 millilitres as generated by a smoking machine, wherein an amount of procurcumenol per puff of aerosol is at least 5 times an amount of cuminaldehyde per puff of aerosol, and wherein the amount of procurcumenol per puff of aerosol is at least 15 times an amount of isothymol per puff of aerosol.
26 . An aerosol-generating substrate, comprising:
a homogenised cumin material comprising at least 2.5 percent by weight of cumin seed particles on a dry weight basis, between 5 percent by weight and 30 percent by weight of aerosol former on a dry weight basis, and binder; at least 15 micrograms of procurcumenol per gram of the aerosol-generating substrate, on a dry weight basis; at least 20 micrograms of cuminaldehyde per gram of the aerosol-generating substrate, on a dry weight basis; and at least 10 micrograms of isothymol per gram of the aerosol-generating substrate, on a dry weight basis.
27 . An aerosol-generating system, comprising:
an aerosol-generating device comprising a heating element; and an aerosol-generating article according to claim 16 .
28 . An aerosol produced upon heating of an aerosol-generating substrate according to claim 26 , the aerosol comprising:
procurcumenol in an amount of at least 0.5 micrograms per puff of the aerosol; cuminaldehyde in an amount of at least 0.05 micrograms per puff of the aerosol; and isothymol in an amount of at least 0.01 micrograms per puff of the aerosol, wherein a puff of aerosol has a volume of 55 millilitres as generated by a smoking machine, wherein an amount of procurcumenol per puff of aerosol is at least 5 times an amount of cuminaldehyde per puff of aerosol, and wherein the amount of procurcumenol per puff of aerosol is at least 15 times an amount of isothymol per puff of aerosol.
29 . A method of making an aerosol-generating substrate according to claim 26 , the method comprising the steps of:
forming a slurry comprising cumin seed particles, water, an aerosol former, and a binder; casting or extruding the slurry in the form of a sheet or strands; and drying the sheet or strands at between 80 degrees Celsius and 160 degrees Celsius.
