Abstract

An electric vehicle lubricant formulation is provided that includes: a Group Il to V base oils, an oxidation inhibitor, and an anti-wear or extreme pressure additive. This formulation provides superior copper corrosion and extreme pressure at high temperatures and have an extremely low electrical conductivity and used oil foam than commercially available products.

1 . An electric vehicle lubricant formulation comprising:
 a Group II, III, IV or V base oil,   an oxidation inhibitor, and   an anti-wear or extreme pressure additive,   wherein the formulation is configured to provide a load wear index of between about 40 to about 55 LWI in a Four ball EP test ASTM D2596, provide between about 0 ppm to about 30 ppm of copper in fluid as measured by ASTM D130@150° C., 168 hr, and provide an electrical conductivity of between about 10 pS/m@20° C. and 1750 pS/m@20° C. as measured by ASTM D2624, or provide used oil foam as measured by ASTM D892 is less than 50/0 for all three sequences.   
     
     
         2 . The formulation of  claim 1 , further comprising a viscosity modifier, pour point depressant, corrosion inhibitor, foam suppressant, or combination thereof. 
     
     
         3 . The formulation of  claim 1 , wherein the Group II, III, IV or V is present in an amount between about 70 wt % and 99.8 wt %. 
     
     
         4 . The formulation of  claim 1 , wherein the anti-wear or extreme pressure additive is present in an amount between about 0.001 wt % to about 10 wt %. 
     
     
         5 . The formulation of  claim 1 , wherein the anti-wear or extreme pressure additive is an ashless phosphate ester. 
     
     
         6 . The formulation of  claim 1 , wherein the oxidation inhibitor is diisotridecylamine molybdate. 
     
     
         7 . The formulation of  claim 1 , wherein the oxidation inhibitor is present in an amount between about 0.001 wt % to about 5 wt %. 
     
     
         8 . The formulation of  claim 1 , further comprising an additive that is a viscosity modifier, a pour point depressant, a corrosion inhibitor, a foam suppressant, or a combination thereof. 
     
     
         9 . The formulation of  claim 7 , wherein the additive that is a viscosity modifier, a pour point depressant, a corrosion inhibitor, a foam suppressant, or a combination thereof is present in an amount of about is present in an amount of about 0.001 wt % to about 10 wt %. 
     
     
         10 . The formulation of  claim 1 , comprising:
 about 98 wt % to about 99.8 wt % of a Group II, III, IV or V base oil, or a combination of a Group II, III, IV or V base oil,   about 0.1 wt % to about 1 wt % oxidation inhibitor, and   about 0.1 wt % to about 1 wt % an anti-wear or extreme pressure additive,   wherein the formulation provides between about 0 ppm to about 30 ppm of copper in fluid as measured by ASTM D130@150° C., 168 hr or provides an electrical conductivity of between about 10 pS/m@20° C. and 1750 pS/m@20° C. as measured by ASTM D2624 and used oil foam by ASTM D892 is less than 50/0 for all three sequences.   
     
     
         11 . The formulation of  claim 10 , wherein the oxidation inhibitor is diisotridecylamine molybdate. 
     
     
         12 . An electric vehicle lubricant formulation comprising:
 about 89 wt % to about 99.7 wt % of a Group II, III, IV or V base oil, or a combination of a Group II, III, IV or V base oil,   about 0.1 wt % to about 1 wt % oxidation inhibitor, and   about 0.1 wt % to about 5 wt % an anti-wear or extreme pressure additive, and   about 0.1 wt % to about 5 wt % an additional additive,   wherein the formulation provides between about 0 ppm to about 30 ppm of copper in fluid as measured by ASTM D130@150° C., 168 hr or provides an electrical conductivity of between about 10 pS/m@20° C. and 1750 pS/m@20° C. as measured by ASTM D2624 or provide used oil foam as measured by ASTM D892 is less than 50/0 for all three sequences.   
     
     
         13 . The electric vehicle lubricant formulation of  claim 12 , wherein the oxidation inhibitor is diisotridecylamine molybdate. 
     
     
         14 . The electric vehicle lubricant formulation of  claim 12 , wherein the anti-wear or extreme pressure additive is an ashless phosphate ester. 
     
     
         15 . The electric vehicle lubricant formulation of  claim 12 , wherein the additional additive that is a viscosity modifier, a pour point depressant, a corrosion inhibitor, a foam suppressant, or a combination thereof.
