Abstract

This disclosure relates to erupting mixtures which form goo-like play compound. In particular, the mixtures erupt when combined with a powder pre-mix composition and a liquid. The disclosure also describes erupting mixture systems and kits, as well as, and methods of using the same to form goo-like play compounds as well as methods of playing with the goo-like play compounds.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A system for forming a goo-like play compound with an erupting mixture comprising:
 a first container for housing a reaction that forms an erupting mixture comprising a first reagent, a second reagent, and water; wherein the first reagent, the second reagent and the water are combined within the first container to form the reaction; and   a second container for collecting the erupting mixture after the reaction, wherein a powder pre-mix composition is further added to the second container and combined with the erupting mixture to form a goo-like play compound,   wherein a weight ratio of the first reagent to the water in the goo-like play compound is from about 1:10 to 10:1.   
     
     
         2 . The system of  claim 1 , wherein the first reagent comprises dilute acetic acid and the second reagent comprises sodium bicarbonate. 
     
     
         3 . The system of  claim 1 , wherein the second reagent and the water are combined first prior to combining with the first reagent. 
     
     
         4 . The system of  claim 3 , wherein the water is heated to a temperature of between about 40° C. and about 100°° C. prior to combining with the second reagent. 
     
     
         5 . The system of  claim 1 , wherein the entire contents of the erupting mixture is transferred from the first container to the second container after the reaction occurs. 
     
     
         6 . The system of  claim 1 , wherein the powder pre-mix composition comprises a gum, sodium bicarbonate, Borax, a phosphate, at least one acid or a salt thereof, and optionally a color pigment and/or additional additive. 
     
     
         7 . The system of  claim 6 , wherein the powder pre-mix composition comprises the gum in an amount of from about 40 wt-% to about 90 wt-%, the sodium bicarbonate in an amount of from about 1 wt-% to about 30 wt-%, the Borax in an amount of from about 0 wt-% to about 0 wt-%, the phosphate in an amount of from about 1 wt-% to about 30 wt-%, and the at least one acid or salt thereof in an amount of from about 0 wt-% to about 10 wt-%. 
     
     
         8 . The system of  claim 1 , wherein the goo-like play compound comprises the first reagent in an amount of from about 10 wt-% to about 75 wt-%, the second reagent in an amount of from about 1 wt-% to about 25 wt-%, the water in an amount of from about 10 wt-% to about 70 wt-%, and the powder pre-mix composition in an amount of from about 0.5 wt-% to about 15 wt-%. 
     
     
         9 . The system of  claim 1 , wherein the goo-like play compound further comprises an additional additive to provide a visual and/or tactile effect, wherein the additive comprises a preservative, a surfactant, a fragrant, glitter, small plastic shapes, a colorant/dye, or a combination thereof. 
     
     
         10 . The system of  claim 9 , wherein the additional additive is present in the goo-like play compound in an amount of from about 0.1 wt-% to about 25 wt-%. 
     
     
         11 . The system of  claim 1 , wherein the goo-like play compound is formed after a period of about 1 minute to about 10 minutes of mixing. 
     
     
         12 . The system of  claim 1 , wherein the first container is in the shape of a flask. 
     
     
         13 . The system of  claim 1 , wherein the first container is housed within the second container. 
     
     
         14 . The system of  claim 1 , wherein the system further comprises a third container to house the second container. 
     
     
         15 . A method of making a goo-like play compound, comprising:
 forming an erupting mixture comprising a step of combining a first reagent, a second reagent, and water to form a reaction;   combining a powder pre-mix composition with the reacted erupting mixture; and applying an agitating force to cause the mixing of the powder pre-mix composition and the erupting mixture to form the goo-like play compound,   wherein a weight ratio of the first reagent to the water in the goo-like play compound is from about 1:10 to 10:1.   
     
     
         16 . The method of  claim 15 , wherein the first reagent comprises dilute acetic acid and the second reagent comprises sodium bicarbonate. 
     
     
         17 . The method of  claim 15 , wherein the second reagent and the water are combined first prior to combining with the first reagent. 
     
     
         18 . The method of  claim 17 , wherein the water is heated to a temperature of between about 40° C. and about 100° C. prior to combining with the second reagent. 
     
     
         19 . The method of  claim 15 , wherein the entire contents of the erupting mixture is transferred from the first container to the second container after the reaction occurs. 
     
     
         20 . The method of  claim 15 , wherein the powder pre-mix composition comprises a gum, sodium bicarbonate, Borax, a phosphate, at least one acid or a salt thereof, and optionally a color pigment and/or additional additive. 
     
     
         21 . The method of  claim 20 , wherein the powder pre-mix composition comprises the gum in an amount of from about 40 wt-% to about 90 wt-%, the sodium bicarbonate in an amount of from about 1 wt-% to about 30 wt-%, the Borax in an amount of from about 0 wt-% to about 0 wt-%, the phosphate in an amount of from about 1 wt-% to about 30 wt-%, and the at least one acid or salt thereof in an amount of from about 0 wt-% to about 10 wt-%. 
     
     
         22 . The method of  claim 15 , wherein the goo-like play compound comprises the first reagent in an amount of from about 10 wt-% to about 75 wt-%, the second reagent in an amount of from about 1 wt-% to about 25 wt-%, the water in an amount of from about 10 wt-% to about 70 wt-%, and the powder pre-mix composition in an amount of from about 0.5 wt-% to about 15 wt-%. 
     
     
         23 . The method of  claim 15 , wherein the goo-like play compound further comprises an additional additive present in the goo-like play compound in an amount of from about 0.1 wt-% to about 25 wt-% to provide a visual and/or tactile effect, wherein the additive comprises a preservative, a surfactant, a fragrant, glitter, small plastic shapes, a colorant/dye, or a combination thereof. 
     
     
         24 . The system of  claim 15 , wherein the goo-like play compound is formed after a period of about 1 minute to about 10 minutes of the mixing. 
     
     
         25 . A method of using a goo-like play compound, comprising:
 forming an erupting mixture comprising a step of combining a first reagent, a second reagent, and water to form a reaction;   combining a powder pre-mix composition with the reacted erupting mixture;   applying an agitating force to cause the mixing of the powder pre-mix composition and the erupting mixture to form the goo-like play compound; and manipulating the goo-like play compound.   
     
     
         26 . The method of  claim 25 , wherein the second reagent and the water are combined first prior to combining with the first reagent. 
     
     
         27 . The method of  claim 26 , wherein the water is heated to a temperature of between about 40° C. and about 100° C. prior to combining with the second reagent. 
     
     
         28 . The method of  claim 25 , wherein the entire contents of the erupting mixture is transferred from the first container to the second container after the reaction occurs. 
     
     
         29 . The system of  claim 25 , wherein the goo-like play compound is formed after a period of about 1 minute to about 10 minutes of the mixing. 
     
     
         30 . The method of  claim 25 , wherein the manipulating of the goo-like play compound is with tools, by hand, by molds, or a combination thereof. 
     
     
         31 . The method of  claim 30 , wherein the goo-like play compound is formed into a stretch form. 
     
     
         32 . The method of  claim 30 , wherein the goo-like play compound is formed into a ball form. 
     
     
         33 . The method of  claim 25 , wherein the goo-like play compound is stored within a storage container in a pliable form until the goo-like play compound is selectively removed for play. 
     
     
         34 . The method of  claim 25 , wherein the first reagent comprises dilute acetic acid, the second reagent comprises sodium bicarbonate, and wherein the powder pre-mix composition comprises a gum, sodium bicarbonate, Borax, a phosphate, at least one acid or a salt thereof, and optionally a color pigment and/or additional additive. 
     
     
         35 . The method of  claim 25 , wherein the powder pre-mix composition comprises the gum in an amount of from about 40 wt-% to about 90 wt-%, the sodium bicarbonate in an amount of from about 1 wt-% to about 30 wt-%, the Borax in an amount of from about 0 wt-% to about 0 wt-%, the phosphate in an amount of from about 1 wt-% to about 30 wt-%, and the at least one acid or salt thereof in an amount of from about 0 wt-% to about 10 wt-%. 
     
     
         36 . The method of  claim 25 , wherein the goo-like play compound comprises the first reagent in an amount of from about 10 wt-% to about 75 wt-%, the second reagent in an amount of from about 1 wt-% to about 25 wt-%, the water in an amount of from about 10 wt-% to about 70 wt-%, and the powder pre-mix composition in an amount of from about 0.5 wt-% to about 15 wt-%. 
     
     
         37 . The method of  claim 25 , wherein the goo-like play compound further comprises an additional additive present in the goo-like play compound in an amount of from about 0.1 wt-% to about 25 wt-% to provide a visual and/or tactile effect, wherein the additive comprises a preservative, a surfactant, a fragrant, glitter, small plastic shapes, a colorant/dye, or a combination thereof.
