Abstract

Various embodiments of helmets and methods of their manufacture are disclosed. In some embodiments, the helmet includes a helmet shell having a helmet shell edge and/or a mounting location for mounting an accessory to the helmet shell. A material that is adherent to the helmet shell may be sprayed onto the helmet shell edge of the helmet shell to form a trim. Alternatively, the material may be sprayed onto a portion of the helmet shell associated with either a mounting location for mounting an accessory or a position for a mounted accessory.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed is:

         1 . (canceled)

2 . A method of manufacturing a helmet, the method comprising:
spraying a material on a portion of a helmet shell associated with either a mounting location or a position for a mounted accessory thereby forming at least one patch of the material to increase the friction between the helmet and the mounted accessory.

3 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the material is sprayed directly on the mounting location or the position for the mounted accessory thereby forming at least one patch of the material on the mounting location or the position for the mounted accessory.

4 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the material is sprayed around the mounting location or the position for the mounted accessory thereby forming at least one patch of the material around the mounting location or the position for the mounted accessory.

5 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the material is sprayed on a portion of the helmet shell surrounding the mounting location or the position for the mounted accessory thereby forming at least one patch of the material above the mounting location or the position for the mounted accessory.

6 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the material is a polymeric material.

7 . The method of claim 6 , wherein the polymeric material has a coefficient of friction that is greater than the coefficient of friction of the helmet shell.

8 . The method of claim 2 , further comprising masking a portion of the helmet shell prior to spraying the material to limit application of the material to the portion of the helmet shell that is left unmasked.

9 . A method of manufacturing a helmet, the method comprising:
spraying a material on a portion of a helmet shell associated with a mounting location for an accessory thereby forming at least one patch of the material to increase the friction between the helmet and the mounted accessory.

10 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the material is sprayed directly on the mounting location thereby forming at least one patch of the material on the mounting location for the accessory.

11 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the material is sprayed around the mounting location for the accessory thereby forming at least one patch of the material around the mounting location for the accessory.

12 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the material is sprayed on a portion of the helmet shell surrounding the mounting location thereby forming at least one patch of the material above the mounting location for the accessory.

13 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the material is a polymeric material.

14 . The method of claim 13 , wherein the polymeric material has a coefficient of friction that is greater than the coefficient of friction of the helmet shell.

15 . The method of claim 9 , further comprising masking a portion of the helmet shell prior to spraying the material to limit application of the material to the portion of the helmet shell that is left unmasked.

16 . A method of manufacturing a helmet, the method comprising:
spraying a material on a portion of a helmet shell associated with a position for a mounted accessory thereby forming at least one patch of the material to increase the friction between the helmet and the mounted accessory.

17 . The method of claim 16 , wherein the material is sprayed directly on the position for the mounted accessory thereby forming at least one patch of the material on the position for the mounted accessory.

18 . The method of claim 16 , wherein the material is sprayed around the position for the mounted accessory thereby forming at least one patch of the material around the position for the mounted accessory.

19 . The method of claim 16 , wherein the material is sprayed on a portion of the helmet shell surrounding the position for the mounted accessory thereby forming at least one patch of the material above the position for the mounted accessory.

20 . The method of claim 16 , wherein the material is a polymeric material.

21 . The method of claim 20 , wherein the polymeric material has a coefficient of friction that is greater than the coefficient of friction of the helmet shell.

22 . The method of claim 16 , further comprising masking a portion of the helmet shell prior to spraying the material to limit application of the material to the portion of the helmet shell that is left unmasked.
