Abstract

A computer system can implement a network transaction service by monitoring location data from a computing device of a user to confirm that the user is located at a merchant location, receiving transaction data from a point-of-sale terminal of the merchant location, and confirming that the user has left the merchant location based on the location data. The computer system may then automatically execute a transfer operation to fund the transaction using a shared funding account of the network transaction service such that no direct payment interaction is made between the user and the merchant.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed is:

         1 . A network computer system implementing a network transaction service, the computer system comprising:
 a network communication interface communicating, over one or more networks with (i) computing devices of users of the network transaction service, and (ii) point-of-sale terminals of registered businesses of the network transaction service; a memory that stores a set of instructions; and one or more processors executing the set of instructions, causing the computer system to perform operations comprising:
 receiving, over the one or more networks, a notification from a computing device of a user, the notification comprising a request by the user to utilize the network transaction service at a merchant location of a selected business, wherein the request enables the user to transact with the selected business without providing payment at the merchant location;
 monitoring, over the one or more networks, location data generated by a positioning system of the computing device of the user, to determine, based on the location data, when a current location of the user corresponds to the merchant location;
 receiving, over the one or more networks, transaction data from a point-of-sale terminal of the selected business, the transaction data corresponding to a transaction between the user and the selected business;
 inferring user intent to use a shared funding account provided by the network transaction service for payment of a transaction amount for a user transaction with the merchant, based at least in part on passage of a threshold amount of time during which the current location of the user corresponds to the merchant location; and
 based at least in part on inferring the user intent to use the shared funding account, causing an amount that is based on the transaction amount to be transferred to an account of the selected business using the shared funding account.

         2 . The network computer system of claim 1 , wherein the operations further comprise:
 causing funds from a customer account of the user to be transferred to the shared funding account based on the transaction amount.

         3 . The network computer system of claim 1 , wherein the transaction data received from the point-of-sale terminal of the selected business is based on a registered instrument of the network transaction service being utilized with the point-of-sale terminal of the selected business.

         4 . The network computer system of claim 1 , wherein inferring the user intent includes determining, by monitoring the location data, that the user has been at the merchant location for a threshold period of time.

         5 . The network computer system of claim 1 , wherein inferring the user intent includes determining, by monitoring the location data, that a threshold period of time has passed since the user entered the location of the merchant.

         6 . The network computer system of claim 1 , wherein the operations further comprise:
 making a determination that the transaction is complete; and causing the amount that is based on the transaction amount to be transferred to the account of the selected business is performed after determining the transaction is complete.

         7 . The network computer system of claim 6 , wherein making the determination that the transaction is complete includes prompting the user through an application interface to confirm that the transaction is complete.

         8 . The network computer system of claim 6 , wherein making the determination hat the transaction is complete includes monitoring, over the one or more networks, location data generated by the positioning system of the computing device of the user to determine when the user leaves the merchant location.

         9 . A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing instructions that, when executed by one or more processors of a network computer system, cause the network computer system to:
 communicating, over one or more networks with (i) computing devices of users of a network transaction service, and (ii) point-of-sale terminals of registered businesses of the network transaction service; receiving, over the one or more networks, a notification from a computing device of a user, the notification comprising a request by the user to utilize the network transaction service at a merchant location of a selected business, wherein the request enables the user to transact with the selected business without providing payment at a merchant location; monitoring, over the one or more networks, location data generated by a positioning system of the computing device of the user, to determine, based on the location data, when a current location of the user corresponds to the merchant location; receiving, over the one or more networks, transaction data from a point-of-sale terminal of the selected business, the transaction data corresponding to a transaction between the user and the selected business; inferring user intent to use a shared funding account provided by the network transaction service for payment of a transaction amount for a user transaction with the merchant, based at least in part on passage of a threshold amount of time during which the current location of the user corresponds to the merchant location; and based at least in part on inferring the user intent to use the shared funding account, causing an amount that is based on the transaction amount to be transferred to an account of the selected business using the shared funding account.

         10 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 1 , wherein the operations further comprise:
 causing funds from a customer account of the user to be transferred to the shared funding account based on the transaction amount.

         11 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 1 , wherein the transaction data received from the point-of-sale terminal of the selected business is based on a registered instrument of the network transaction service being utilized with the point-of-sale terminal of the selected business.

         12 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 1 , wherein inferring the user intent includes determining, by monitoring the location data, that the user has been at the merchant location for a threshold period of time.

         13 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 1 , wherein inferring the user intent includes determining, by monitoring the location data, that a threshold period of time has passed since the user entered the location of the merchant.
