Holster
Abstract
A holster has an outer wall system with a first side panel having a first top edge and a first bottom edge and a second side panel having a second top edge and a second bottom edge. The first top edge and the second top edge each comprise a plurality of top knuckles complementary and coupled to one another to form a top coupling structure. The first bottom edge and the second bottom edge each comprise a plurality of bottom knuckles complementary and coupled to one another to form a bottom coupling structure. A holster has a primary safety device and/or a secondary safety device. The primary safety device can be configured to directly retain a firearm in the holster unless moved to an open position. The secondary safety device can be configured to retain the primary safety device in a closed position unless disengaged.

1 . A holster, comprising:
a first side panel having a first top edge and a first bottom edge and a second side panel having a second top edge and a second bottom edge, wherein a cavity configured to receive a firearm is defined between the first side panel and the second side panel; wherein the first top edge comprises a plurality of first top knuckles and the first bottom edge comprises a plurality of first bottom knuckles, wherein each of the plurality of first top knuckles comprises a first top aperture and each of the plurality of first bottom knuckles comprises a first bottom aperture; wherein the second top edge comprises a plurality of second top knuckles and the second bottom edges comprises a plurality of second bottom knuckles, wherein the plurality of second top knuckles comprises a second top aperture, and the plurality of second bottom knuckles comprises a second bottom aperture; wherein the plurality of first top knuckles interlocks with the plurality of second top knuckles, and the first top aperture and the second top aperture align when the plurality of first top knuckles and the plurality of the second top knuckles are in a top knuckle position; wherein the plurality of first bottom knuckles interlocks with the plurality of second bottom knuckles, and the first bottom aperture and the second bottom aperture align when the plurality of first bottom knuckles and the plurality of the second bottom knuckles are in a bottom knuckle position; a top pin disposed through the aligned first top aperture and second top aperture forming a top coupling structure coupling the first top edge of the first side panel to the second top edge of the second side panel; and a bottom pin disposed through the aligned first bottom aperture and second bottom aperture forming a bottom coupling structure coupling the first bottom edge of the first side panel to the second bottom edge of the second side panel.

The holster of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of first top knuckles comprises a forward length of first top knuckles and an aft length of first top knuckles, wherein the plurality of second top knuckles comprises a forward length of second top knuckles and an aft length of second top knuckles; and
wherein the forward length of first top knuckles and the forward length of second top knuckles are connected to form a forward coupling structure, and wherein the aft length of first top knuckles and the aft length of second top knuckles are connected to form an aft coupling structure.
3 . The holster of claim 2 , wherein the forward coupling structure is disposed along a different line than the aft coupling structure.
4 . The holster of claim 1 , further comprising (a) at least one top cap connected to at least one of the first side panel or the second side panel, wherein the at least one top cap at least partially covers the top coupling structure, and (b) at least one bottom cap connected to at least one of the first side panel or the second side panel, wherein the at least one bottom cap at least partially covers the bottom coupling structure.
5 . The holster of claim 1 , further comprising a belt attachment coupled to the first side panel.
6 . The holster of claim 5 , wherein the belt attachment comprises a bottom portion that curves towards the first side panel, and that is configured to curve away from a body of a user.
7 . A holster, comprising:
an outer wall system defining a holster cavity configured to receive a firearm, wherein the outer wall system spans between a forward end and an open aft end, wherein the open aft end is configured for the firearm to pass therethrough; and a safety system coupled to the outer wall system, the safety system comprising:
a primary safety device comprising a firearm retention flange spanning in a first direction and a user actuation flange spanning in a second direction, wherein the primary safety device is configured to move between (a) a closed position in which the firearm retention flange blocks at least a portion of the open aft end of the holster cavity to retain the firearm in the holster cavity and (b) an open position to permit the firearm to pass through the open aft end of the holster cavity.
8 . The holster of claim 7 , wherein the primary safety device is configured move between the closed position and the open position in response to a force being applied to the user actuation flange.
9 . The holster of claim 7 , wherein the primary safety device further comprises a safety base to which the firearm retention flange and the user actuation flange are coupled, wherein the safety base is coupled to the outer wall system at a pivot point about which the primary safety device is configured to pivot between the closed position and the open position.
10 . The holster of claim 7 , wherein the firearm retention flange comprises a magnet configured to be in magnetic communication with an aft portion of the firearm to assist in retaining the firearm in the holster cavity.
11 . The holster of claim 7 , wherein the safety system further comprises a spring coupled to the primary safety device, wherein the spring is configured to bias the primary safety device towards the closed position.
12 . The holster of claim 11 , further comprising:
a primary device locking arm comprising a locking arm body spanning between a locking arm aft end and a locking arm forward end, wherein the locking arm aft end is disposed proximate the open aft end of the holster and the locking arm forward end is disposed proximate the forward end of the holster, wherein the locking arm forward end comprises an engagement lip protruding radially from the locking arm body toward an interior of the holster cavity, wherein the primary device locking arm is configured to move between a locked position and an unlocked position; and a locking arm spring coupled to the primary device locking arm, wherein the locking arm spring biases the primary device locking arm toward the locked position; and wherein in response to the firearm retention flange being in the open position, the firearm retention flange does not block movement of the primary device locking arm, such that the primary device locking arm is configured to move into the locked position and the firearm retention flange is retained in the open position by blocking the primary safety device from moving to the closed position.
13 . The holster of claim 12 , wherein, in response to the firearm retention flange being retained in the open position and the firearm being inserted into the holster cavity, the engagement lip of the primary device locking arm engages a forward portion of the firearm such that the primary device locking arm moves forward and into the unlocked position, and, in response to the firearm being sufficiently inserted into the holster cavity, the safety system is configured to move the primary safety device such that the firearm retention flange is in the closed position in order to retain the firearm in the holster cavity.
14 . The holster of claim 13 , wherein, in response to (a) the firearm being disposed in the firearm cavity and pulled aftward without moving the firearm retention flange to the open position, and (b) the firearm retention flange being in the closed position, the primary device locking arm is configured to move aftward with the firearm such that the locking arm aft end engages with a safety void in the firearm retention flange to further prevent the firearm retention flange from being moved into the open position.
15 . The holster of claim 12 , wherein the primary device locking arm is coupled to a surface of the outer wall system.
16 . The holster of claim 11 , further comprising a secondary safety device coupled to the outer wall system;
wherein the secondary safety device is configured to move between a secondary engaged position and a secondary disengaged position; wherein in response to the secondary safety device being in the secondary engaged position, the secondary safety device blocks the primary safety device from moving toward the open position to prevent the firearm from being removed from the holster cavity; and wherein in response to the secondary safety device being in the secondary disengaged position, the primary safety device is free to move to the open position, which allows the firearm to be removed from the holster cavity.
17 . The holster of claim 16 , further comprising a spring coupled to the secondary safety device, wherein the spring is configured to cause the secondary safety device to be biased toward the secondary engaged position.
18 . The holster of claim 7 , wherein the safety system further comprises a spring coupled to the primary safety device, wherein the spring causes the primary safety device to be biased toward the open position.
19 . The holster of claim 18 , further comprising a secondary safety device coupled to the outer wall system;
wherein the secondary safety device is configured to move between a secondary engaged position and a secondary disengaged position, wherein in response to the secondary safety device being in the secondary engaged position, the secondary safety device blocks the primary safety device from moving toward the open position to prevent the firearm from being removed from the holster cavity; and wherein in response to the secondary safety device being in the secondary disengaged position, the primary safety device moves to the open position in accordance with the open bias and allows the firearm to be removed from the holster cavity.
20 . The holster of claim 7 , wherein the safety system is coupled to a first side panel of the outer wall system, wherein the firearm retention flange is an extended retention flange comprising a distal end; and wherein the distal end of the extended retention flange is configured to couple to a second side panel of the outer wall system when the extended retention flange is in the closed position.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
