Abstract
A hydrocarbon cracker stream is combined with recycle content pyrolysis oil to form a combined cracker stream and the combined cracker stream is cracked in a cracker furnace to provide an olefin-containing effluent. The r-pyoil can be fed to the cracker feed. Alternatively, the r-pyoil with a predominantly c8+ fraction can be fed to the cracker feed. The furnace can be a gas fed furnace, or split cracker furnace.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedWhat is claimed is:
1 . A cracker feedstock composition comprising:
(a) a non-recycle cracker feed; and (b) a recycle content pyrolysis oil composition (r-pyoil), wherein the r-pyoil comprises at least 35 weight percent of C 8 + components and no more than 30 weight percent of total aromatics, based on the total weight of the r-pyoil; and wherein the r-pyoil is routed to a cracker to produce olefins.
2 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the non-recycle cracker feed comprises at least 50 weight percent of C 2 to C 4 hydrocarbons, based on the total weight of the feed.
3 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the non-recycle cracker feed comprises ethane, propane, natural gasoline, or combinations thereof.
4 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the r-pyoil is obtained from pyrolysis of waste plastic.
5 . The composition of claim 4 , wherein the waste plastic comprises high-density polyethylene or copolymers thereof, low-density polyethylene or copolymers thereof, polypropylene or copolymers thereof, other polyolefin, polystyrene, polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polyvinylidene chloride (PVDC), polyester or copolyester, polyamide, poly(methyl methacrylate), polytetrafluoroethylene, acrylo-butadiene-styrene (ABS) copolymer, polyurethane, cellulosic or derivatives thereof, epoxy, polyamide, phenolic resin, polyacetal, polycarbonate, polyphenylene-based alloy, vinyl-based polymer, styrene-acrylonitrile copolymer, thermoplastic elastomer, urea-based polymer, melamine-containing polymer, or combinations thereof.
6 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the r-pyoil is obtained from pyrolysis of solid waste, and wherein the solid waste comprises plastic, rubber, textile, wood, biowaste, modified cellulose, nonwoven webs, or combinations thereof.
7 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the r-pyoil is obtained from pyrolysis of liquid waste, and wherein the liquid waste comprises industrial sludge, petroleum-derived oil, recovered lube oil, vegetable oil, animal oil, or combinations thereof.
8 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the r-pyoil is obtained from pyrolysis of post-industrial waste material.
9 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the r-pyoil is obtained from pyrolysis of post-consumer waste material.
10 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the r-pyoil comprises no more than 15 weight percent of total aromatics, based on the total weight of the r-pyoil.
11 . A method of making one or more olefins, the method comprising:
(a) pyrolyzing a feedstock comprising recycled waste in a pyrolysis unit to form a pyrolysis oil; (b) separating the pyrolysis oil in a separation unit into at least a light pyrolysis oil fraction and a heavy pyrolysis oil fraction, wherein the heavy pyrolysis oil fraction comprises at least 30 weight percent of C 8 + components and no more than 30 weight percent of total aromatics, based on the total weight of the heavy pyrolysis oil fraction; (c) introducing (i) a non-recycle cracker feed and (ii) a recycle content pyrolysis oil composition (r-pyoil) into a cracker furnace to produce olefins, wherein the r-pyoil comprises at least a portion of the heavy pyrolysis oil fraction; and (d) cracking at least a portion of (i) the non-recycle cracker feed and (ii) the r-pyoil in the cracker furnace to provide an olefin-containing effluent stream.
12 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the pyrolysis reaction occurs in the absence of a catalyst.
13 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the olefin-containing effluent stream comprises ethylene, propylene, or both.
14 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the cracker furnace comprises a thermal steam gas cracker.
15 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the cracker furnace comprises a split furnace.
16 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the non-recycle cracker feed comprises at least 50 weight percent of C 2 to C 4 hydrocarbons, based on the total weight of the feed.
17 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the non-recycle cracker feed comprises ethane, propane, natural gasoline, or combinations thereof.
18 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the heavy pyrolysis oil fraction comprises no more than 15 weight percent of total aromatics, based on the total weight of the heavy pyrolysis oil fraction.
19 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the recycled waste comprises waste plastic.
20 . The method of claim 19 , wherein the waste plastic comprises high-density polyethylene or copolymers thereof, low-density polyethylene or copolymers thereof, polypropylene or copolymers thereof, other polyolefin, polystyrene, polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polyvinylidene chloride (PVDC), polyester or copolyester, polyamide, poly(methyl methacrylate), polytetrafluoroethylene, acrylo-butadiene-styrene (ABS) copolymer, polyurethane, cellulosic or derivatives thereof, epoxy, polyamide, phenolic resin, polyacetal, polycarbonate, polyphenylene-based alloy, vinyl-based polymer, styrene-acrylonitrile copolymer, thermoplastic elastomer, urea-based polymer, melamine-containing polymer, or combinations thereof.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
