Abstract
A plow guard for a snowplow is provided. The plow guard includes a plow guard body, a plow guard wear surface, and a plurality of protruding teeth. The plow guard wear surface extends along the plow guard body. The plurality of protruding teeth protrude from the plow guard wear surface. Each protruding tooth includes a plurality of peaks and channels to form a serrated cutting surface on the plow guard wear surface.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A plow guard for a snowplow, the plow guard comprising:
a plow guard body; a plow guard wear surface along the plow guard body; and a plurality of protruding teeth protruding from the plow guard wear surface, wherein each protruding tooth comprises a plurality of peaks and channels to form a serrated cutting surface on the plow guard wear surface.
2 . The plow guard of claim 1 , further comprising at least one enlarged outer edge on the plow guard body.
3 . The plow guard of claim 2 , wherein the at least one enlarged out edge on the plow guard body extends beyond the plurality of protruding teeth from the plow guard wear surface.
4 . The plow guard of claim 1 , further comprising a horizontal groove extending along a bottom face of the plow guard body.
5 . The plow guard of claim 4 , further comprising a consumable carbide matrix within the horizontal groove and protruding away from the bottom face of the plow guard body and below the plow guard wear surface.
6 . The plow guard of claim 1 , wherein said serrated cutting surface is raised normal to the plow guard wear surface by at least a sixteenth of an inch.
7 . The plow guard of claim 1 , wherein the plow guard is a single piece steel casting.
8 . The plow guard of claim 7 , wherein the single piece steel casting is an armor steel casting selected from the group consisting of a tempered steel and a maraging steel.
9 . The plow guard of claim 1 , wherein each protruding tooth of the plurality of protruding teeth is separated from one another along the plow guard wear surface.
10 . A plow guard for a snowplow, the plow guard comprising:
a plow guard body; a plow guard wear surface along the plow guard body; an enlarged outer edge on the plow guard body; and a plurality of protruding teeth protruding normal to the plow guard wear surface, wherein each protruding tooth of the plurality of protruding teeth is separated from one another along the plow guard wear surface, and wherein each protruding tooth comprises a plurality of peaks and channels to define a serrated cutting surface on the plow guard wear surface.
11 . The plow guard of claim 10 , further comprising two elongated horizontal slotted punch apertures along the plow guard body, wherein the two elongated horizontal slotted punch apertures are not connected to one another and are on different halves of the plow guard body.
12 . The plow guard of claim 11 , wherein the elongated horizontal slotted punch apertures are configured to align with a plurality of mounting holes of a plow blade and a mold board, and wherein the elongated horizontal slotted punch apertures are configured to receive a plurality of fasteners to engage with the mounting holes of the plow blade and mold board.
13 . The plow guard of claim 10 , further comprising at least one longitudinal groove located along a bottom face of the plow guard body.
14 . The plow guard of claim 13 , further comprising a consumable carbide matrix within the longitudinal groove and protruding away from the bottom face of the plow guard body and below the plow guard wear surface.
15 . A snowplow assembly comprising:
a plow body; a mold board coupled to a lower portion of the plow body; a plow blade coupled to the mold board; a first plow guard coupled to the plow blade, the first plow guard comprising:
a plow guard body;
a plow guard wear surface along the plow guard body; and
a plurality of protruding teeth protruding from the plow guard wear surface,
wherein each protruding tooth comprises a plurality of peaks and channels to form a serrated cutting surface on the plow guard wear surface; and a fastener extend through the mold board, the plow blade, and the first plow guard to affix the plow blade between the mold board and the plow guard.
16 . The snowplow assembly of claim 15 , wherein the plow guard body comprises at least one elongated punch aperture, wherein the plow blade comprises a plurality of blade mounting holes, wherein the mold board comprise a plurality of mold board mounting holes, wherein the elongated punch aperture is wider than the blade mounting holes and the mold board mounting holes, wherein the elongated punch aperture is configured to align with at least one mold board mounting hole and at least one blade mounting hole, and wherein the fastener extends through the elongated punch aperture, the at least one mold board mounting hole, and the at least one blade mounting hole.
17 . The snowplow assembly of claim 15 , further comprising a second plow guard having a same structure as the first plow guard, wherein the first plow guard is mounted proximate a first outer edge of the plow body, and wherein the second plow guard is mounted proximate a second outer edge of the plow body and spaced apart from the first plow guard.
18 . The snowplow assembly of claim 15 , wherein the first plow guard further comprises at least one enlarged outer edge on the plow guard body that extends beyond the plurality of protruding teeth from the plow guard wear surface.
19 . The snowplow assembly of claim 15 , wherein the first plow guard further comprises: a horizontal groove extending along a bottom face of the plow guard body; and a consumable carbide matrix within the horizontal groove and protruding away from the bottom face of the plow guard body and below the plow guard wear surface.
20 . The snowplow assembly of claim 19 , wherein a bottommost surface of the consumable carbide matrix is arranged between a bottommost surface of the plow guard body and a bottommost surface of the plow blade.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
