Abstract

A protective device for preventing exposure to undesired airborne material. The middle portion of the device is clear or semi-clear so the user's mouth is visible while wearing the device such that a person is able to see the user's mouth while they are wearing the device. The ability to see the user's mouth increases both verbal and nonverbal communication between the user and other persons around. The device can include an eye shield assembly having a skirt extending from the filter assembly and positioned distal to the seal, an optically transparent eye shield coupled to the skirt to form a continuous surface from the filter assembly to a top portion of the eye shield, and a frame coupled to the frame assembly and eye shield assembly.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed is:

         1 . A protective device, comprising:
 a filter assembly, the filter assembly including:
 a transparent panel;
 a first filter positioned on a first side of the transparent panel; and
 a second filter positioned on a second side of the transparent panel;
   a first temple arm coupled to the filter assembly; and a second temple arm coupled to the filter assembly.

         2 . The protective device of claim 1 , wherein the first filter is attached to the second filter.

         3 . The protective device of claim 1 , wherein the filter assembly further comprises a gasket position around a perimeter of the filter assembly.

         4 . The protective device of claim 1 , wherein the transparent panel has a width of at least 10 mm.

         5 . The protective device of claim 1 , wherein the transparent panel has a width of between 10 mm and 72 mm.

         6 . The protective device of claim 1 , further comprising an eye shield positioned above the filter assembly.

         7 . The protective device of claim 6 , further comprising a bridge positioned between the filter assembly and the eye shield, wherein the bridge couples the filter assembly to the eye shield.

         8 . The protective device of claim 6 , wherein the eye shield comprises anti-fog material.

         9 . A filter, comprising:
 a left portion; a right portion integral to the left portion; and a gap between the left portion and the right portion having a width greater than 10 mm.

         10 . The filter of claim 9 , wherein the filter is configured to removably attach to a frame, the frame having a perimeter and a transparent panel spanning a height of the perimeter.

         11 . The filter of claim 9 , wherein the left portion and the right portion are symmetrical.

         12 . The filter of claim 9 , wherein the left portion is connected to the right portion via a connection portion, wherein the connection portion is integral to both the left portion and the right portion.

         13 . The filter of claim 9 , wherein the filter is removably attached to a protective device.

         14 . The filter of claim 9 , wherein the gap has a height greater than half of a height of each of the left portion and the right portion.

         15 . The filter of claim 14 , wherein the gap is rectangular.

         16 . A protective device comprising:
 a frame having a transparent panel, wherein the transparent panel is positioned centrally within the frame, has a width of greater than 10 mm, and spans a height of the frame; a filter removably attached to the frame, the filter comprising:
 a left portion;
 a right portion integral to the left portion; and
 a gap between the left portion and the right portion configured to fit around the transparent panel;
   a first temple arm attached to a first side of the frame; and a second temple arm attached to a second side of the frame.

         17 . The protective device of claim 16 , wherein the transparent panel comprises of anti-fog material.

         18 . The protective device of claim 16 , wherein the first temple arm and the second temple arm each attach to the frame via a hinge.

         19 . The protective device of claim 16 , further comprising a valve positioned in the transparent panel.

         20 . The protective device of claim 19 , wherein the valve is configured to allow air to flow out of the valve in a direction away from a wearer of the protection device and to prevent air from flowing in through the valve in a direction towards a wearer of the protection device.
