Abstract

An aerosol generation device includes a casing; an aperture in the casing through which aerosol generating material is insertable into the aerosol generation device; a closure moveable relative to the aperture between a closed position in which the closure covers the aperture, an open position in which the aperture is unobstructed by the closure, and an activation position that is different from the open position; and a detector arranged to detect movement of the closure from the closed position to the open position and between the open position and the activation position.

1 . An aerosol generation device comprising:
 a casing;   an aperture in the casing through which aerosol generating material is insertable into the aerosol generation device;   a closure moveable relative to the aperture between a closed position in which the closure covers the aperture, and a status display position that is different from the closed position, and in which the aerosol generation device is configured to initiate a display of a status of the device through a user interface when the closure is moved into the status display position; and   a detector arranged to detect movement of the closure between different positions.   
     
     
         2 . The aerosol generation device according to  claim 1 , wherein
 the aerosol generation device enters a status mode, in which the user interface displays the status, when the detector detects movement of the closure from the closed position into the status display position.   
     
     
         3 . The aerosol generation device according to  claim 2 , wherein
 the closure is configured to enter the status mode after the aerosol generation device changes from the status display position.   
     
     
         4 . The aerosol generation device according to  claim 2 , wherein
 the device is moved into the status mode for a period of time when the detector detects the movement of the closure from the closed position into the status display position.   
     
     
         5 . The aerosol generation device according to  claim 2 , wherein
 from the aerosol generation device changes from the status mode when the closure is moved from the status display position into another position.   
     
     
         6 . The aerosol generation device according to  claim 1 , wherein
 the status to be displayed is any one or more of: battery level, remaining time for usage of the aerosol generation device and an amount of consumable remaining.   
     
     
         7 . The aerosol generation device according to  claim 1 , wherein
 the user interface comprises an array of LEDs.   
     
     
         8 . The aerosol generation device according  claim 1 , wherein the detector is configured to interact with a sensing element to perform the detection. 
     
     
         9 . The aerosol generation device according to  claim 8 , wherein the detector comprises a contactless sensor for detecting movement of the closure contactlessly. 
     
     
         10 . The aerosol generation device according to  claim 9 , wherein the contactless sensor is a Hall effect sensor and the sensing element comprises one or more magnetic elements. 
     
     
         11 . The aerosol generation device according to  claim 9 , wherein the contactless sensor is a photodetector and the sensing element is the closure. 
     
     
         12 . The aerosol generation device according to  claim 9 , wherein the closure or casing has an acoustic element and the contactless sensor is an acoustic sensor. 
     
     
         13 . An aerosol generation device comprising:
 a casing;   an aperture in the casing through which aerosol generating material is insertable into the aerosol generation device;   a closure moveable relative to the aperture between a closed position in which the closure covers the aperture, an open position in which the aperture is unobstructed by the closure, and a status display position that is different from the closed position and the open position; and   a detector arranged to detect movement of the closure between different positions.   
     
     
         14 . The aerosol generation device of  claim 13 , wherein the aerosol generating device is configured to display a status of the device through a user interface in the status display position.
