Claims

Abstract

A method of processing a primitive road is disclosed. The method may include towing a groomer, directing a primary material from the groomer onto a surface of the primitive road, and disrupting the surface of the primitive road to loosen road material with at least a first processing tool onboard the groomer. The method may also include mixing the road material with the primary material using the at least a first processing tool, compacting the mixed road material and primary material with a second processing tool onboard the groomer, and directing a sealing material from the groomer onto a compacted surface of the primitive road.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A method of processing a primitive road, comprising:
 towing a groomer;   directing a primary material from the groomer onto a surface of the primitive road;   disrupting the surface of the primitive road to loosen road material with at least a first processing tool onboard the groomer;   mixing the road material with the primary material using the at least a first processing tool;   compacting the mixed road material and primary material with a second processing tool onboard the groomer; and   directing a sealing material from the groomer onto a compacted surface of the primitive road.   
     
     
         2 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein:
 towing the groomer includes towing the groomer with a distributor; and   the method further includes directing a pretreatment material from the distributor onto the surface of the primitive road before directing the primary material onto the surface.   
     
     
         3 . The method of  claim 2 , wherein the primary material includes an emulsion of soft asphalt, acrylic, latex or biochemical. 
     
     
         4 . The method of  claim 2 , wherein the sealing material includes an emulsion of asphalt that is harder than the emulsion of the primary material. 
     
     
         5 . The method of  claim 2 , wherein the pretreatment material includes at least one of a biochemical, a recycled material, or a rubber. 
     
     
         6 . The method of  claim 5 , wherein the primary material includes an emulsion of soft asphalt, acrylic, latex or biochemical. 
     
     
         7 . The method of  claim 6 , wherein the sealing material includes an emulsion of asphalt that is harder than the emulsion of the primary material. 
     
     
         8 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein disrupting includes engaging a primary tillage element with the surface of the road at a depth of up to 3″ to generate clods of the road material. 
     
     
         9 . The method of  claim 8 , wherein mixing includes engaging at least one of a secondary tillage element and a mixing element with the clods of road material. 
     
     
         10 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein engaging the secondary tillage element with the clods of road material breaks the clods down to particles having an average diameter of about 1.25″. 
     
     
         11 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein mixing includes engaging both the secondary tillage element and the mixing element. 
     
     
         12 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein disrupting includes engaging the primary tillage element with the surface of the road at a depth of up to 1.5″ during a dust-control operation. 
     
     
         13 . The method of  claim 12 , wherein disrupting includes engaging the primary tillage element with the surface of the road at a depth of up to 3″ during a stabilization operation. 
     
     
         14 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein disrupting includes engaging the primary tillage element with the surface of the road at a depth of up to 3″ during a stabilization operation. 
     
     
         15 . A method of processing a primitive road, comprising:
 towing a groomer;   directing a primary material including an emulsion of soft asphalt, acrylic, latex or biochemical from the groomer onto a surface of the primitive road;   disrupting the surface of the primitive road to loosen road material with at least a first processing tool onboard the groomer;   mixing the road material with the primary material using the at least a first processing tool;   compacting the mixed road material and primary material with a second processing tool onboard the groomer; and   directing a sealing material including an emulsion of asphalt that is harder than the emulsion of the primary material from the groomer onto a compacted surface of the primitive road.   
     
     
         16 . The method of  claim 15 , wherein:
 towing the groomer includes towing the groomer with a distributor; and   the method further includes directing a pretreatment material including at least one of a biochemical, a recycled material, or a rubber from the distributor onto the surface of the primitive road before directing the primary material onto the surface.   
     
     
         17 . The method of  claim 15 , wherein:
 disrupting includes engaging a primary tillage element with the surface of the road at a depth of up to 3″ to generate clods of the road material; and   mixing includes engaging at least one of a secondary tillage element and a mixing element with the clods of road material.   
     
     
         18 . A road processing machine, comprising:
 a frame having a leading end and a trailing end, relative to a travel direction of the road processing machine;   a first spray bar located at one of the leading end or the trailing end and being configured to distribute a primary material onto a road over which the road processing machine is traveling;   at least one of a second spray bar or a broadcast spreader located at one of the leading end or the trailing end opposite the first spray bar, the at least one of the second spray bar or the broadcast spreader being configured to distribute a sealing material onto the road; and   at least one processing tool located between the leading and trailing ends of the frame and being configured to process a material of the road.   
     
     
         19 . The road processing machine of  claim 18 , wherein:
 the primary material includes an emulsion of soft asphalt, acrylic, latex or biochemical; and   the sealing material includes an emulsion of asphalt that is harder than the emulsion of the primary material.   
     
     
         20 . The road processing machine of  claim 18 , wherein:
 The at least one processing tool includes a primary tillage element that trails behind the first spray bar; and   at least one of a secondary tillage element or a mixing element that trails behind the primary tillage element.
