Segmented wall systems
Abstract
A segmented wall system includes a first course extending in a first direction and comprising a first wall block and a second wall block. A rear side of the first wall block is connected to a first side of a first tail block and a rear side of the second wall block is connected to a first side of a second tail block. The segmented wall system further includes a second course stacked on the first course. The second course includes a third wall block having a rear side connected to a first side of a third tail block. The rear side of the third tail block has a width in the first direction that is equal to or greater than a width in the first direction of the rear side of the third wall block.

front and rear portions extending between the top surface and the bottom surface of the block body,
a front surface defined on the front portion of the block body, opposing a rear surface defined on the rear portion,
one or more openings or apertures extending through the block body from the top surface to the bottom surface, between the front portion and the rear portion, and
two opposing side portions extending between the front portion and the rear portion of the block body, on opposing sides of the one or more openings or apertures;
wherein the top surface of the block body has a pair of lug connections extending from said top surface, wherein the lug connections are configured to interface with one or more of the openings or apertures extending from the top surface to the bottom surface of other such wall blocks, when stacked on the block body, wherein the lug connections are configured to connect the wall block to an adjacent course or layer of the other wall blocks.
21 . The wall block of claim 20 , wherein the lug connections comprise raised areas formed on the top surface.
22 . The wall block of claim 20 , wherein the lug connections are positioned on the opposing side portions, or on or adjacent outside edges thereof.
23 . The wall block of claim 20 , wherein the lug connections are aligned with a rear surface of the one or more openings or apertures, the rear surface being defined opposite the front surface on the front portion.
24 . The wall block of claim 20 , wherein the lug connections are offset from a rear surface of the one or more openings or apertures, the rear surface being defined opposite the front surface on the front portion.
25 . The wall block of claim 20 , wherein a first of the pair of lug connections is configured to engage with one or mor of the openings or apertures of a first of the other wall blocks in the adjacent course or layer and a second of the pair of lug connections is configured to engage with one or more of the opening or apertures of a second of the other wall blocks in the adjacent course or layer.
26 . The wall block of claim 25 , wherein the first and second lug connections are configured to engage with one or more of the opening or apertures of the first and second wall blocks disposed left and right of or adjacent one another in the adjacent course or layer.
27 . The wall block of claim 20 , wherein the one or more openings or apertures are configured to engage with a first of the pair of lug connections of a first wall block in a lower course or layer of such wall blocks and with a second of the pair of lug connections of a second such wall block in the lower course or layer.
28 . The wall block of claim 27 , wherein the one or more openings or apertures are configured to engage the first and second lug connections of the first and second wall blocks disposed left and right of or adjacent one another in the lower course or layer.
29 . The wall block of claim 27 , wherein the wall block is configured to prevent motion thereof by engagement with the first and second lug connections of the first and second wall blocks in the lower course or layer.
30 . The wall block of claim 20 , in combination with a tail unit having a first portion connected to the rear portion of the wall block, a second portion opposite the first portion, and at least one neck portion extending between the front portion and the rear portion.
31 . A segmented wall system comprising a plurality of wall blocks according to claim 20 , wherein a first set of the wall blocks is disposed in a first course or layer of the segmented wall system and a second set of the wall blocks is disposed in the adjacent course or layer.
32 . The segmented wall system of claim 31 , further comprising a plurality of tail units each having a first end connected to the rear portion of one of the plurality of wall blocks, a second end opposite the first end, and at least one neck portion extending between the first end and the second end.
33 . A wall block comprising:
a top surface; a bottom surface opposing the top surface; a front portion extending between the top surface and bottom surfaces on or adjacent a first end of the wall block; a rear portion extending between the top and bottom surfaces on or adjacent a second end of the wall block, opposite the first end; one or more openings or apertures extending between the front and rear portions of the wall block, from the top surface to the bottom surface; first and second side portions extending between the front and the rear portions of the wall block, on opposing sides of the opening; and first and second engagement features extending from the top surface of the wall block; wherein the engagement features are configured to engage one or more of the openings or apertures of other such wall blocks, when stacked on the wall block in an adjacent course or layer.
34 . The wall block of claim 33 , wherein the first and second engagement features comprise raised areas formed in the top surface of the wall block.
35 . The wall block of claim 33 , wherein the first and second engagement features are formed on the first and second side portions, respectively.
36 . The wall block of claim 35 , wherein the first and second engagement features are formed on or adjacent outside edges of the respective side portions.
37 . The wall block of claim 33 , wherein the first and second engagement features are aligned with a rear surface of one or more of the openings or apertures, the rear surface being defined opposite a front surface on the front portion of the wall block.
38 . The wall block of claim 33 , wherein the first and second engagement features are offset from a rear surface of one or more of the openings or apertures, the rear surface being defined opposite a front surface on the front portion of the wall block.
39 .
