4-star base for a chair

Abstract

A base for a chair is described. The example base for the chair includes a central support coupled to a seat of the chair, a first pair of legs extending radially from the central support, and a second pair of legs extending radially from the central support. The first pair of legs extend in a direction opposite the second pair of legs. A first angle between the first pair of legs is larger than a second angle between the second pair of legs. Respective legs of each of the first pair of legs and the second pair of legs are rotationally fixed relative to the seat of the chair.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A support for a chair comprising:
 a first pair of legs extending from the support, the first pair of legs defining an area under a front of the chair in which a user may position their feet; and   a second pair of legs extending from the support in a direction opposite the first pair of legs, a first angle between the first pair of legs being larger than a second angle between the second pair of legs.   
     
     
         2 . The support for a chair as defined in  claim 1 , wherein the first angle is equal to or greater than 90 degrees. 
     
     
         3 . The support for a chair as defined in  claim 1 , wherein the second angle is equal to or less than 90 degrees. 
     
     
         4 . The support for a chair as defined in  claim 1 , wherein the first pair of legs has a first length and the second pair of legs has a second length, wherein the first length is longer than the second length. 
     
     
         5 . The support for a chair as defined in  claim 1 , further comprising casters coupled to ends of each of the legs. 
     
     
         6 . The support for a chair as defined in  claim 1 , wherein respective legs of each of the first pair of legs and the second pair of legs are rotationally fixed relative to a seat of the chair. 
     
     
         7 . A base comprising:
 a leg assembling including:
 a first pair of legs extending from a central support, each respective leg of the first pair of legs extending substantially toward a respective front corner of a seat; and 
 a second pair of legs extending from the central support, each respective leg of the second pair of legs extending substantially toward a respective rear corner of the seat, the first pair of legs defining a first angle, the second pair of legs defining a second angle, and the first angle being greater than the second angle; and 
   a locking feature provided on the central support to fix the leg assembly to the central support.   
     
     
         8 . The base as defined in  claim 7 , wherein respective legs of each of the first pair of legs and the second pair of legs are rotationally fixed relative to the central support. 
     
     
         9 . The base as defined in  claim 8 , wherein the central support is rotationally fixed relative to the seat. 
     
     
         10 . The base as defined in  claim 7 , wherein the first angle is obtuse. 
     
     
         11 . The base as defined in  claim 10 , wherein the first angle is preferably between 100 and 115 degrees. 
     
     
         12 . The base as defined in  claim 7 , wherein the second angle is acute. 
     
     
         13 . The base as defined in  claim 12 , wherein the second angle is preferably between 75 and 85 degrees. 
     
     
         14 . The base as defined in  claim 7 , wherein the first pair of legs are a first length and the second pair of legs are a second length, wherein the first length is longer than the second length. 
     
     
         15 . The base as defined in  claim 7 , further comprising casters coupled to ends of each of the respective legs. 
     
     
         16 . A seating device comprising:
 a rotationally fixed support to be coupled to a seat; and   a leg assembly coupled to the rotationally fixed support, the leg assembly including a pair of legs defining an area under a front of the seating device, and an angle between the pair of the legs being at least 90 degrees.   
     
     
         17 . The seating device as defined in  claim 16 , wherein the pair of the legs is a first pair of legs, wherein the leg assembly further includes a second pair of legs extending in a direction opposite the first pair of legs, wherein a second angle between the second pair of legs is acute. 
     
     
         18 . The seating device as defined in  claim 17 , wherein the first pair of legs has a first length, the second pair of legs has a second length, and the first length is longer than the second length. 
     
     
         19 . The seating device as defined in  claim 16 , wherein the leg assembly is rotationally fixed relative to the rotationally fixed support by way of a positive locking feature. 
     
     
         20 . The seating device as defined in  claim 19 , wherein the positive locking feature includes:
 a key provided on the rotationally fixed support; and   a recess to receive the key and being provided on the leg assembly.
