Abstract

A portable barrier includes a junction assembly having a first junction support, a second junction support, and a third junction support, a first fastener, and a second fastener. The first junction support is spaced apart from the second junction support to define a first junction space. The second junction support is spaced apart from the third junction support to define a second junction space. The first fastener defines a first axis and extends through the first junction support, the second junction support, and the third junction support. The second fastener defines a second axis and extends through the first junction support, the second junction support, and the third junction support. And the first axis is spaced apart from the second axis. The portable barrier further includes a pedestal assembly including a plurality of legs that are movable with respect to each other. The plurality of legs includes a first leg and a second leg. The portable barrier additionally includes a cover assembly including a plurality of arms that are movable with respect to each other, the plurality of arms includes a first arm and a second arm, and a covering connected to the first arm and the second arm. Also, the portable barrier includes a supplemental component pivotally coupled to the junction assembly. The first strut pivots with respect to the junction assembly about the first axis during movement of the portable barrier between the storage mode and the protection mode. In addition, the second strut pivots with respect to the junction assembly about the first axis during movement of the portable barrier between the storage mode and the protection mode. And the junction assembly pivots with respect to the pedestal assembly about the first axis during movement of the portable barrier between the storage mode and the protection mode.

Claims

What is claimed is:

         1 . A portable barrier, comprising:
a pedestal assembly including a plurality of legs that are movable with respect to each other, the plurality of legs includes a first leg and a second leg; a cover assembly including (i) a plurality of arms that are movable with respect to each other, the plurality of arms includes a first arm and a second arm, and (ii) a cover attached to the first arm and the second arm; a rear fabric member attached to at least one of (i) the first leg, (ii) the second leg, (iii) the first arm, and (iv) the second arm; a coupler attached to the rear fabric member, the coupler having a receptacle; and a support member, wherein the portable barrier is configured to be moved between a protection mode and a storage mode, wherein the rear fabric member is configured to be moved between a collapsed rear fabric configuration and an expanded rear fabric configuration, wherein, when the portable barrier is positioned in the protection mode, the rear fabric member is positioned in the expanded rear fabric configuration, and wherein, when the rear fabric member is positioned in the expanded rear fabric configuration, an end portion of the support member is positioned in the receptacle so as to secure the support member to the rear fabric member.

2 . The portable barrier of claim 1 , wherein:
the cover is configured to be moved between a collapsed cover configuration and an expanded cover configuration, and when the portable barrier is positioned in the protection mode, the cover is positioned in the expanded cover configuration.

3 . The portable barrier of claim 2 , wherein:
the pedestal assembly further includes a floor connected to the first leg and the second leg, the floor is configured to be moved between a collapsed floor configuration and an expanded floor configuration, when the portable barrier is positioned in the protection mode, the floor is positioned in the expanded floor configuration, and when the cover is positioned in the expanded cover configuration and the floor is positioned in the expanded floor configuration, an occupant space is defined between the cover and the floor.

4 . The portable barrier of claim 3 , wherein:
the floor includes a fabric floor member, the cover includes a fabric cover member, and the occupant space is located between the fabric floor member and the fabric cover member when the cover is positioned in the expanded cover configuration and the floor is positioned in the expanded floor configuration.

5 . The portable barrier of claim 3 , further comprising a junction assembly, wherein:
the first leg includes (i) a first strut portion extending from the junction assembly, and (ii) a first extension portion that terminates in a first unsupported end, the second leg includes (i) a second strut portion extending from the junction assembly, and (ii) a second extension portion that terminates in a second unsupported end, the first arm includes (i) a third strut portion extending from the junction assembly, and (ii) a third extension portion that terminates in a third unsupported end, and the second arm includes (i) a fourth strut portion extending from the junction assembly, and (ii) a fourth extension portion that terminates in a fourth unsupported end.

6 . The portable barrier of claim 5 , wherein:
the floor is attached to both the first extension portion and the second extension portion, the cover is attached to both the third extension portion and the fourth extension portion, and the rear fabric member is attached to at least one of (i) the first strut portion, (ii) the second strut portion, (iii) the third strut portion, and (iv) the fourth strut portion.

7 . The portable barrier of claim 1 , wherein:
the cover assembly further includes an intermediate arm, and the cover includes (i) a first cover portion extending between the first arm and the intermediate arm, and (ii) a second cover portion extending between the intermediate arm and the second arm.
