Abstract
A downhole tool with a centralizer that is configured to land on the existing casing, be disconnected, pick up the centralizer, perform a cementing operation, and slack weight to seal between the centralizing and the existing casing, which will eliminate the need to utilize another linear hanger
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedWhat is claimed is:
1 . A system configured to act as an expansion joint comprised of:
a mandrel; a centralizer configured to land on existing casing or a no-go, wherein relative axial movement of the mandrel and the centralizer is locked before temporary coupling mechanisms are activated and the mandrel is configured to freely move after activating the temporary coupling mechanisms to absorb tubing stress.
2 . The system of claim 1 , wherein tubing stress causes the mandrel to slide relative to the centralizer in a first direction and a second direction, where the first direction is opposite to the second direction.
3 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the temporary coupling mechanisms are configured to temporarily couple the mandrel and the centralizer together.
4 . The system of claim 1 , further comprising:
a housing, the mandrel being positioned within the housing, wherein the mandrel is configured to move relative to the housing axially.
5 . The system of claim 4 , wherein a collet positioned on the housing is configured to couple the mandrel and the housing together, wherein the collet no longer couples the mandrel and the housing after activating the temporary coupling mechanisms and after the relative movement of the mandrel and the centralizer.
6 . The system of claim 5 , wherein the centralizer includes a proximal end with a first inner diameter and a chamber with a second inner diameter, the first inner diameter being smaller than the second inner diameter.
7 . The system of claim 6 , wherein when run in hole the collet is supported by the first inner diameter, and after activating the temporary coupling mechanisms the collet is aligned with the second inner diameter and is no longer supported.
9 . The system of claim 5 , wherein the mandrel is configured to freely slide after radially expanding the collet.
10 . The system of claim 5 , wherein the centralizer is configured to move relative to the housing to no longer support the collet.
11 . The system of claim 5 , wherein the mandrel is configured to move relative to the centralizer to no longer support the collet.
12 . A method configured to act as an expansion joint comprised of:
landing a centralizer configured to land on existing casing or a no-go; locking relative axial movement of a mandrel and the centralizer before temporary coupling mechanisms are activated; and allowing the mandrel to freely move after activating the temporary coupling mechanisms to absorb tubing stress.
13 . The method of claim 12 , further comprising:
moving the mandrel based on tubing stress relative to the centralizer in a first direction and second direction, where the first direction is opposite to the second direction.
14 . The method of claim 12 , further comprising:
temporarily coupling, via the temporary coupling mechanisms, the mandrel and the centralizer together.
15 . The method of claim 12 , further comprising:
positioning the mandrel within a housing, wherein the mandrel is configured to axially move relative to the housing.
16 . The method of claim 15 , further comprising:
coupling the mandrel and the housing together via a collet positioned on the housing, and the collet no longer couples the mandrel and the housing after activating the temporary coupling mechanisms and after the relative movement of the mandrel and the centralizer.
17 . The method of claim 16 , wherein the centralizer includes a proximal end with a first inner diameter and a chamber with a second inner diameter, the first inner diameter being smaller than the second inner diameter.
18 . The method of claim 17 , wherein when run in hole the collet is supported by the first inner diameter, and after activating the temporary coupling mechanisms the collet is aligned with the second inner diameter and is no longer supported.
19 . The method of claim 16 , further comprising:
freely sliding the mandrel after radially expanding the collet.
20 . The method of claim 16 , further comprising:
moving the centralizer relative to the housing to no longer support the collet.Cited by (0)
