Abstract

A patio umbrella device for facilitating access to an interior of a closed umbrella includes a base that is positionable on a surface. A pole is coupled to and extends upwardly from the base. A plurality of ribs is pivotably coupled to the pole distal to the base. The plurality of ribs is movable between a storage position and a usage position. A handle is mechanically coupled to the plurality of ribs. A canopy is coupled to and extends between the plurality of ribs. A fastener is coupled to the canopy. The fastener is positioned adjacent to a rib of the plurality of ribs. The fastener is openable to form an access cavity through the canopy. The access cavity facilitates a user in accessing the handle and in viewing a interior surface of the canopy when the plurality of ribs is in the storage position.

I claim:

         1 . A patio umbrella assembly comprising:
a base being configured to be positioned on a surface; a pole being coupled to and extending upwardly from the base; a plurality of ribs being pivotably coupled to the pole distal to the base, the plurality of ribs being movable between a storage position and a usage position; a handle being mechanically coupled to the plurality of ribs for moving the plurality of ribs between the storage position and the usage position, the handle being positioned on the pole; a canopy being coupled to the plurality of ribs, the canopy extending between each of the plurality of ribs; and a fastener being coupled to the canopy, the fastener being openable to form an access cavity through the canopy wherein the access cavity is configured to facilitate a user in accessing the handle when the plurality of ribs is in the storage position.

2 . The patio umbrella assembly of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of ribs is folded downwardly proximate to the pole when the plurality of ribs is in the storage position, and wherein the plurality of ribs extends outwardly from the pole when the plurality of ribs is in the usage position.

3 . The patio umbrella assembly of claim 1 , wherein the handle is rotatably coupled to the pole and wherein rotation of the handle pivots the plurality of ribs between the storage position and the usage position.

4 . The patio umbrella assembly of claim 1 , wherein the fastener extends past a free edge of the canopy wherein the fastener forms a tab, the tab being configured to be gripped by a user wherein the fastener is configured to facilitate a user in manipulating the fastener.

5 . The patio umbrella assembly of claim 1 , wherein the fastener has a width between 0.5 inch and 2.5 inches.

6 . The patio umbrella assembly of claim 1 , wherein the fastener has a length between 1.5 feet and 3.5 feet.

7 . The patio umbrella assembly of claim 1 , wherein the fastener is positioned adjacent to a rib of the plurality of ribs.

8 . The patio umbrella assembly of claim 1 , the fastener further comprising a zipper.

9 . The patio umbrella assembly of claim 8 , the zipper further comprising a plastic material.

         9 . A patio umbrella assembly comprising:
a base being configured to be positioned on a surface; a pole being coupled to and extending upwardly from the base; a plurality of ribs being pivotably coupled to the pole distal to the base, the plurality of ribs being movable between a storage position and a usage position, wherein the plurality of ribs is folded downwardly proximate to the pole when the plurality of ribs is in the storage position, wherein the plurality of ribs extends outwardly from the pole when the plurality of ribs is in the usage position; a handle being mechanically coupled to the plurality of ribs for moving the plurality of ribs between the storage position and the usage position, the handle being rotatably coupled to the pole wherein rotation of the handle pivots the plurality of ribs between the storage position and the usage position; a canopy being coupled to the plurality of ribs, the canopy extending between each of the plurality of ribs; and a fastener being coupled to the canopy, the fastener being positioned adjacent to a rib of the plurality of ribs, the fastener extending past a free edge of the canopy wherein the fastener forms a tab, the tab being configured to be gripped by a user wherein the fastener is configured to facilitate the user in manipulating the fastener, the fastener being openable to form an access cavity through the canopy wherein the access cavity is configured to facilitate the user in accessing the handle when the plurality of ribs is in the storage position, the fastener having a width between 0.5 inch and 2.5 inches, the fastener having a length between 1.5 feet and 3.5 feet, the fastener comprising a zipper, the zipper comprising a plastic material.
