Abstract

Systems and other embodiments described herein relate to a sound device that mitigates sound near airflow openings through acoustic resonance while exhibiting a compact form. In one embodiment, a method sound includes a body coupled to an opening of a duct having noise from airflow, the body surrounding a circumference of the opening and the body is located at an endpoint of the duct. The sound device also includes the body having a cavity with a first partition and the cavity is divided by the first partition, and the cavity forming an acoustic resonator at target frequencies that mitigates the noise by reflecting sound waves.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A sound device comprising:
 a body coupled to an opening of a duct having noise from airflow, the body surrounding a circumference of the opening and the body is located at an endpoint of the duct; and   the body having a cavity with a first partition and the cavity is divided by the first partition, and the cavity forming an acoustic resonator at target frequencies that mitigates the noise by reflecting sound waves.   
     
     
         2 . The sound device of  claim 1  further comprising:
 a damping material for the noise surrounding the first partition; and 
 a second partition having a length different than the first partition, and the first partition reduces the noise at a starting part of the target frequencies and the second partition reduces the noise at an end part of the target frequencies. 
 
     
     
         3 . The sound device of  claim 2 , wherein the first partition increases a range of the target frequencies and attenuation of the noise at the target frequencies. 
     
     
         4 . The sound device of  claim 3  further comprising the duct having an extruding part from the body with a same size as the opening and the extruding part decreases a transmission quotient of the noise according to a depth associated with the extruding part. 
     
     
         5 . The sound device of  claim 2  further comprising:
 a grill at the opening and the grill causes sound from the airflow; and 
 the acoustic resonator mitigates the sound by tuning according to a third partition. 
 
     
     
         6 . The sound device of  claim 1 , wherein the body is one of a round, a rectangular, a square, and an oval shape. 
     
     
         7 . The sound device of  claim 1 , wherein the opening is one of a round, a rectangular, a square, and an oval shape. 
     
     
         8 . An acoustic resonator comprising:
 a body coupled to an opening of a duct having noise from airflow, the body surrounding a circumference of the opening and the body is located at an endpoint of the duct; and   the body having a cavity with a damping material for the noise surrounding a first partition and the cavity is divided by the first partition, and the cavity mitigates the noise at target frequencies by reflecting sound waves that travel through a path within the cavity lengthened by the first partition.   
     
     
         9 . The acoustic resonator of  claim 8  further comprising:
 a second partition having a length and a shape different than the first partition, and the first partition reduces the noise at a beginning part of a spectrum for the target frequencies and the second partition reduces the noise at an end part of a spectrum for the target frequencies. 
 
     
     
         10 . The acoustic resonator of  claim 9 , wherein the first partition increases a range of the target frequencies and attenuation of the noise at the target frequencies. 
     
     
         11 . The acoustic resonator of  claim 8  further comprising:
 a grill at the opening and the grill causes sound from the airflow; and 
 the cavity mitigates the sound by tuning according to a third partition. 
 
     
     
         12 . The acoustic resonator of  claim 8  further comprising the duct having an extruding part from the body with a same size as the opening and the extruding part decreases a transmission quotient of the noise according to a depth associated with the extruding part. 
     
     
         13 . The acoustic resonator of  claim 8 , wherein the body is one of a round, a rectangular, a square, and an oval shape. 
     
     
         14 . The acoustic resonator of  claim 8 , wherein the opening is one of a round, a rectangular, a square, and an oval shape. 
     
     
         15 . An acoustic resonator comprising:
 a circular body connected to a square opening of a duct having noise from airflow, the circular body surrounding a circumference of the square opening and the circular body is located at an endpoint of the duct; and   the circular body having a cavity with a damping material for the noise surrounding a first partition that is circular and the cavity is divided by the first partition, and the cavity mitigates the noise at target frequencies by reflecting sound waves that travel through a path within the cavity lengthened by the first partition.   
     
     
         16 . The acoustic resonator of  claim 15  further comprising:
 a second partition being concentric with the first partition, and the first partition reduces the noise at a start of a spectrum for the target frequencies and the second partition reduces the noise at an end of a spectrum for the target frequencies. 
 
     
     
         17 . The acoustic resonator of  claim 16 , wherein the first partition increases a range of the target frequencies and attenuation of the noise at the target frequencies. 
     
     
         18 . The acoustic resonator of  claim 16 , wherein the first partition increases a range of the target frequencies excluding middle frequencies and attenuation of the noise at the target frequencies. 
     
     
         19 . The acoustic resonator of  claim 15  further comprising:
 a grill at the square opening and the grill causes sound from the airflow; and 
 the cavity mitigates the sound by tuning according to a third partition. 
 
     
     
         20 . The acoustic resonator of  claim 15  further comprising the duct having an extruding part from the circular body with a same size as the square opening and the extruding part decreases a transmission quotient of the noise according to a depth associated with the extruding part.
