Abstract

Some embodiments of the present disclosure relate to a roofing system. In some embodiments, the roofing system includes a first roofing material, wherein the first roofing material comprises a top surface and a bottom surface. In some embodiments, the top surface of the first roofing material comprises a nail zone with a plurality of fines. In some embodiments, the roofing system includes a second roofing material, wherein the second roofing material comprises a top surface and a bottom surface. In some embodiments, the bottom surface of the second roofing material comprises a plurality of fines. In some embodiments, the roofing system comprises and a patterned adhesive, which directly contacts at least a portion of the plurality of fines in the nail zone and at least a portion of the plurality of fines on the bottom surface of the second roofing material.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed is:

         1 . A roofing shingle comprising:
a roofing material configured to be installed on a roof deck,
wherein the roofing material comprises a top surface and a bottom surface,
wherein the bottom surface comprises a fastener zone; and
a patterned adhesive disposed over the bottom surface of the roofing material,
wherein the patterned adhesive is located within the fastener zone,
wherein the patterned adhesive comprises a pattern selected from the group consisting of three or more dashes, two or more stripes, and a sine wave,
wherein the patterned adhesive is configured to contact a second roofing material installed on the roof deck, and
wherein the patterned adhesive is arranged to overlap at least one fastener within the fastener zone between the roofing material and the second roofing material when the roofing material is installed on the roof deck.

2 . The roofing shingle of claim 1 , wherein the fastener zone comprises a plurality of fines.

3 . The roofing shingle of claim 2 , wherein the plurality of fines comprises at least one of mica flakes, copper slag, coal slag, sand, talc, expanded clay, slate flour, powdered limestone, and silica dust.

4 . The roofing shingle of claim 2 , wherein the patterned adhesive directly contacts at least a portion of the plurality of fines within the fastener zone without any intervening layer between the patterned adhesive and the plurality of fines.

5 . The roofing shingle of claim 1 , wherein the patterned adhesive is a fiberized adhesive.

         6 . The roofing shingle of claim 1 ,
wherein an area including the patterned adhesive includes a length and a width, wherein the fastener zone includes a length and a width, and wherein the width of the fastener zone is greater than the width of the area.

         7 . A method comprising:
installing a first roofing material on a roof deck,
 wherein a top surface of the first roofing material comprises a fastener zone;
obtaining a second roofing material configured to be installed on the roof deck,
wherein a bottom surface of the second roofing material comprises a fastener zone, and
wherein the fastener zone of the second roofing material comprises a patterned adhesive,
wherein the patterned adhesive comprises a pattern selected from the group consisting of three or more dashes, two or more stripes, and a sine wave; and

attaching the bottom surface of the second roofing material to the top surface of the first roofing material within the respective fastener zones.

8 . The method of claim 7 , wherein the patterned adhesive is a fiberized adhesive.

         9 . The method of claim 7 ,
wherein the bottom surface of the second roofing material comprises a plurality of fines, and wherein the patterned adhesive directly contacts at least a portion of the plurality of fines on the bottom surface of the second roofing material without any intervening layer between the patterned adhesive and the plurality of fines.

10 . The method of claim 7 , wherein attaching the bottom surface of the second roofing material to the top surface of the first roofing material comprises inserting at least one fastener into the fastener zone of the top surface of the first roofing material.
