Claims

Abstract

A sole structure for an article of footwear having an upper includes a cushion member and a chassis. The cushion member extends from a forefoot region to a heel region of the sole structure. The cushion member includes a first series of lobes alternating with a first series of recesses along a length of the cushion member. The first series of lobes and the first series of recesses extend along one of a medial side of the sole structure and a lateral side of the sole structure. The chassis is disposed between the cushion member and the upper and includes a series of first supports alternating with a second series of recesses. The supports of the series of first supports are aligned and in contact with respective lobes of the first series of lobes and the second series of recesses are aligned with the first series of recesses.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A sole structure for an article of footwear, the sole structure comprising:
 a cushion member extending from a forefoot region to a heel region of the sole structure and including a plurality of lobes arranged in series along a peripheral region of the sole structure; and   a cushion support disposed between the cushion member and an upper of the article of footwear and including a first plurality of individual supports spaced apart from one another along a longitudinal axis of the sole structure, each individual support of the first plurality of supports engaging a respective lobe of the cushion member.   
     
     
         2 . The sole structure of  claim 1 , wherein supports of the first plurality of supports define concave surfaces that receive respective convex outer surfaces of the cushion member. 
     
     
         3 . The sole structure of  claim 1 , wherein adjacent supports of the first plurality of supports are separated from one another by a gap. 
     
     
         4 . The sole structure of  claim 1 , wherein the cushion member is a fluid-filled chamber. 
     
     
         5 . The sole structure of  claim 1 , further comprising a plate disposed between the cushion support and the upper. 
     
     
         6 . The sole structure of  claim 5 , wherein the plate includes a higher rigidity than the cushion support. 
     
     
         7 . The sole structure of  claim 5 , wherein the plate includes a second plurality of supports that are spaced apart from one another along the longitudinal axis of the sole structure, each individual support of the second plurality of supports engaging a respective lobe of the cushion member. 
     
     
         8 . The sole structure of  claim 7 , wherein respective supports of the second plurality of supports are disposed between adjacent supports of the first plurality of supports. 
     
     
         9 . The sole structure of  claim 7 , wherein supports of the second plurality of supports alternate with supports of the first plurality of supports around the peripheral region of the sole structure. 
     
     
         10 . The sole structure of  claim 1 , wherein the cushion support comprises a foam material. 
     
     
         11 . A sole structure for an article of footwear, the sole structure comprising:
 a cushion member extending from a forefoot region to a heel region of the sole structure and including a plurality of lobes arranged in series along a peripheral region of the sole structure; and   a plate disposed between the cushion member and an upper of the article of footwear and including a first plurality of individual supports spaced apart from one another along a longitudinal axis of the sole structure, each individual support of the first plurality of supports engaging a respective lobe of the cushion member.   
     
     
         12 . The sole structure of  claim 11 , wherein the plate includes a medial leg extending along a medical side of the sole structure, a lateral leg extending along a lateral side of the sole structure, and a gap disposed between and defined by the medial leg and the lateral leg. 
     
     
         13 . The sole structure of  claim 12 , wherein the medial leg is attached to the lateral leg by an arcuate segment extending along a posterior end of the sole structure. 
     
     
         14 . The sole structure of  claim 13 , wherein the medial leg is spaced apart and separated from the lateral leg at an anterior end of the sole structure. 
     
     
         15 . The sole structure of  claim 12 , wherein at least one of the medial leg and the lateral leg includes a series of undulations extending along a length of the at least one of the medial leg and the lateral leg. 
     
     
         16 . The sole structure of  claim 11 , wherein adjacent supports of the first plurality of supports are separated from one another by a gap. 
     
     
         17 . The sole structure of  claim 11 , wherein the cushion member is a fluid-filled chamber. 
     
     
         18 . The sole structure of  claim 11 , further comprising a cushion support disposed on an opposite side of the plate than the upper and including a second plurality of supports that are separated from one another by a gap and engage a respective lobe of the cushion member between adjacent supports of the first plurality of supports. 
     
     
         19 . The sole structure of  claim 18 , wherein the cushion support comprises a foam material. 
     
     
         20 . The sole structure of  claim 19 , wherein the plate includes a higher rigidity than the cushion support.
