Abstract

A composite corner finishing strip for finishing a wallboard corner joint having a plastic body with a first flange and a second flange, each flange having a rib edge and an opposite free edge, such that the respective rib edges are joined to form a corner rib defining an angle. At least one of the first flange and the second flange have a plurality of perforations, the corner rib extends beyond a corner defined by the first and second flanges, and defines an interior space, and a web of face paper at least partially covers the body.

1 . A composite corner finishing strip for finishing a wallboard corner joint, comprising:
 a plastic body including a first flange and a second flange, each said flange having a rib edge and an opposite free edge, said respective rib edges being joined to form a corner rib defining an angle, at least one of said first flange and said second flange having a plurality of perforations;   said corner rib extends beyond a corner defined by said first and second flanges, and defines an interior space; and   a web of face paper at least partially covering said body.   
     
     
         2 . The composite corner finishing strip of  claim 1 , wherein at least one of said flanges tapers in thickness from said rib edge to said free edge. 
     
     
         3 . The composite corner finishing strip of  claim 1 , wherein said face paper has a free end extending past said free edge of each of said flanges, wherein a length ratio of said free edge to said face paper end is approximately 0.5 to 0.9. 
     
     
         4 . The composite corner finishing strip of  claim 1 , wherein said defined angle is in the range of 75°-105°. 
     
     
         5 . The composite corner finishing strip of  claim 1 , wherein said perforations are circular in shape and extend through said flange. 
     
     
         6 . The composite corner finishing strip of  claim 1 , wherein said perforations have a diameter between around 0.05 inches and around 0.20 inches. 
     
     
         7 . The composite corner finishing strip of  claim 1 , wherein said perforations are provided in a pattern that includes between 6 and 25 holes per square inch and wherein said perforations are staggered along a length of said corner bead. 
     
     
         8 . A composite corner finishing strip for finishing a wallboard corner joint, comprising:
 a plastic body including a first flange and a second flange, each said flange extending away from a recess of said plastic body, said first flange and said second flange having a free edge, a recess edge, and a plurality of perforations; and   a web of face paper at least partially covering said body.   
     
     
         9 . The composite corner finishing strip of  claim 8 , wherein said recess defines a folding axis of said plastic body, said plastic body being configured for being bendable about said longitudinal axis to a 90-degree angle without relaxing back to an initial flat position. 
     
     
         10 . The composite corner finishing strip of  claim 9 , wherein said recess has a curved shape, such that a thickness of said plastic body is smallest at a bottom of said curved shape. 
     
     
         11 . The composite corner finishing strip of  claim 9 , wherein said recess is V-shaped, such that a thickness of said plastic body is smallest at a bottom of said V-shape. 
     
     
         12 . The composite corner finishing strip of  claim 9 , wherein said recess has an elliptical shape, such that a thickness of said plastic body is smallest at a bottom of said elliptical shape. 
     
     
         13 . The composite corner finishing strip of  claim 9 , wherein said recess has an obround shape, such that a thickness of said plastic body is smallest at a bottom surface of said obround shape. 
     
     
         14 . The composite corner finishing strip of  claim 8 , wherein said perforations are circular in shape and extend through said plastic body. 
     
     
         15 . The composite corner finishing strip of  claim 8 , wherein said perforations have a diameter between around 0.05 inches and around 0.20 inches. 
     
     
         16 . The composite corner finishing strip of  claim 8 , wherein said perforations are provided in a pattern that includes between 6 and 25 holes per square inch and wherein said perforations are staggered along a length of said corner bead. 
     
     
         17 . The composite corner finishing strip of  claim 8 , wherein said plastic is selected for impact resistance, and is reversibly deformable. 
     
     
         18 . The composite corner finishing strip of  claim 8 , wherein at least one of said flanges tapers in thickness from said recess to said free edge, and wherein said flanges have a thickness in the range of 0.040-0.055 inch near said recess and a thickness in the range of 0.025-0.035 inch near said free edge. 
     
     
         19 . The composite corner finishing strip of  claim 8 , wherein said face paper has a free end extending past said free edge of each of said flanges. 
     
     
         20 . The composite corner finishing strip of  claim 8 , wherein said plastic body is provided in sheet form.
