Claims

Abstract

A plenum device and a plenum system, the plenum device includes a body section having a first opening at a first end and a second opening at a second end defining a curved air flow channel therebetween, the second opening having an aperture; a fixing bracket moveably coupled to the exterior of the body section and configured to secure the plenum device to a ceiling void space; and an adjustment mechanism arranged at the second opening of the body section and configured to vary the size of the aperture. The first end is configured to be coupled to an air duct and the second end is configured to be coupled to an inlet/outlet port. The fixing bracket is configured to be moveable relative to the body section between a plurality of positions and includes an adjustable engagement mechanism arranged to secure the fixing bracket in one of the positions.

1 . A plenum device, comprising:
 a body section having a first opening at a first end and a second opening at a second end defining a curved air flow channel therebetween through the body section, wherein the second opening includes an aperture;   a fixing bracket moveably coupled to an exterior of the body section and configured to secure the plenum device to a ceiling void space; and   an adjustment mechanism arranged at the second opening of the body section and configured to vary a size of the aperture,   wherein the first end is configured to be coupled to an air duct of a ventilation system and the second end is configured to be coupled to an inlet/outlet port, and   wherein the fixing bracket is configured to be moveable relative to the body section between a plurality of positions and includes an adjustable engagement mechanism arranged to secure the fixing bracket in one of the plurality of positions.   
     
     
         2 . The plenum device of  claim 1 , wherein the engagement mechanism comprises:
 a rack provided on the body section; and   a latch provided on the fixing bracket.   
     
     
         3 . The plenum device of  claim 2 , wherein the rack has a directionally shaped profile. 
     
     
         4 . The plenum device of  claim 1 , wherein the air flow channel has an L shaped path and the fixing bracket is configured to be moveable in line with the L shape. 
     
     
         5 . The plenum device of  claim 1 , wherein the aperture comprises a mechanical iris with a plurality of blades. 
     
     
         6 . The plenum device of  claim 5 , wherein the adjustment mechanism comprises an adjustment ring disposed about the second opening and mechanically coupled to the plurality of blades, wherein the adjustment mechanism is configured such that rotation of the adjustment ring about the second opening causes the mechanical iris to open and close. 
     
     
         7 . The plenum device of  claim 6 , wherein the adjustment ring includes a plurality of circumferentially disposed teeth, configured to engage a plurality of complementary teeth of an adjustment key in an axial direction. 
     
     
         8 . The plenum device of  claim 6 , wherein the adjustment ring includes a plurality of circumferentially disposed index markers corresponding to respective ones of the plurality of positions in which the iris is opened to respective predetermined sizes, wherein the adjustment mechanism includes a detent resiliently biased towards engaging one of the index markers to prevent the adjustment ring from free rotation. 
     
     
         9 . The plenum device of  claim 8 , wherein the plurality of index markers correspond to twenty-one (21) respective positions. 
     
     
         10 . The plenum device of  claim 8 , wherein the detent is spring loaded. 
     
     
         11 . The plenum device of  claim 5 , wherein the blades are configured to retract to retracted position in which the second opening is not obstructed by the blades. 
     
     
         12 . The plenum device of  claim 1 , wherein the fixing bracket includes a mounting mechanism having threaded holes to enable the plenum device to be screw-mounted. 
     
     
         13 . The plenum device of  claim 1 , further comprising a guide loop provided in alignment with the engagement mechanism. 
     
     
         14 . The plenum device of  claim 13 , wherein the guide loop is provided on the exterior of the body section proximal to the second end. 
     
     
         15 . The plenum device of  claim 1 , further comprising an upper housing part and a lower housing part forming a housing structure, wherein the aperture and the adjustment mechanism are housed within the housing structure. 
     
     
         16 . A plenum system, comprising:
 a plenum device; and   an inlet/outlet port or a modular lighting fixture, wherein the modular lighting fixture includes an inlet/outlet portion,   wherein the plenum device comprises:
 a body section having a first opening at a first end and a second opening at a second end defining a curved air flow channel therebetween through the body section, wherein the second opening includes an aperture; 
 a fixing bracket moveably coupled to an exterior of the body section and configured to secure the plenum device to a ceiling void space; and 
 an adjustment mechanism arranged at the second opening of the body section and configured to vary a size of the aperture, 
   wherein the first end is configured to be coupled to an air duct of a ventilation system and the second end is configured to be coupled to the inlet/outlet port or the inlet/outlet portion of the modular lighting fixture, and   wherein the fixing bracket is configured to be moveable relative to the body section between a plurality of positions and includes an adjustable engagement mechanism arranged to secure the fixing bracket in one of the plurality of positions.   
     
     
         17 . The plenum system of  claim 16 , further comprising a removable outlet plugin configured to be removably inserted into an interior of the inlet/outlet port or the inlet/outlet portion of the modular lighting fixture, wherein the outlet plugin includes a plurality of outwardly extending attachment wings. 
     
     
         18 . The plenum system of  claim 16 , further comprising a removable inlet plugin configured to be removably inserted into an interior of the inlet/outlet port or the inlet/outlet portion of the modular lighting fixture, wherein the inlet plugin having comprises:
 a plurality of radial members at an interior of the inlet plugin; and   a plurality of extruding members on an exterior of the inlet plugin, wherein the extruding members are configured to engage and secure the inlet plugin to an interior of the inlet/outlet port or the inlet/outlet portion of the modular lighting fixture.
