Abstract

An aerosol-generating article is provided, including an aerosol-generating section including an aerosol-generating substrate including a plurality of strands of aerosol-generating material, the aerosol-generating substrate having a density of between 100 milligrams per cubic centimetre and 700 milligrams per cubic centimetre, and an elongate internal heating element located within the aerosol-generating substrate in thermal contact with the plurality of strands of aerosol-generating material, the elongate internal heating element being a susceptor element, the aerosol-generating substrate being tobacco cut filler, and a ratio of a mean cut width of the tobacco cut filler to a width of the elongate internal heating element being between 0.05 and 4. An aerosol-generating system including the aerosol-generating article and an aerosol-generating device is also provided.

         16 . An aerosol-generating article, comprising:
 an aerosol-generating section comprising:
 an aerosol-generating substrate comprising a plurality of strands of aerosol-generating material, wherein the aerosol-generating substrate has a density of between 100 milligrams per cubic centimetre and 700 milligrams per cubic centimetre, and 
 an elongate internal heating element located within the aerosol-generating substrate in thermal contact with the plurality of strands of aerosol-generating material, wherein the elongate internal heating element is a susceptor element, 
   wherein the aerosol-generating substrate is tobacco cut filler, and   wherein a ratio of a mean cut width of the tobacco cut filler to a width of the elongate internal heating element is between 0.05 and 4.   
     
     
         17 . The aerosol-generating article according to  claim 16 , wherein the tobacco cut filler has a mean cut width of between 0.3 millimetre and 2 millimetres. 
     
     
         18 . The aerosol-generating article according to  claim 16 , wherein the elongate internal heating element has a width of between 0.5 millimetre and 5 millimetres. 
     
     
         19 . The aerosol-generating article according to  claim 16 , wherein the ratio of the mean cut width of the tobacco cut filler to the width of the elongate internal heating element is between 0.06 and 3. 
     
     
         20 . The aerosol-generating article according to  claim 16 , wherein the ratio of the mean cut width of the tobacco cut filler to the width of the elongate internal heating element is between 0.13 and 1.5. 
     
     
         21 . The aerosol-generating article according to  claim 16 , wherein the aerosol-generating substrate has a mass of between 120 milligrams and 340 milligrams. 
     
     
         22 . The aerosol-generating article according to  claim 16 , wherein a ratio of an average length of the plurality of strands of aerosol-generating material to a length of the elongate internal heating element is between 0.1 and 1. 
     
     
         23 . The aerosol-generating article according to  claim 16 , wherein a ratio of the width of the elongate internal heating element to a width of the aerosol-generating section is between 0.1 and 0.8. 
     
     
         24 . The aerosol-generating article according to  claim 16 , wherein the aerosol-generating material comprises between 15 percent by weight and 30 percent by weight of aerosol former. 
     
     
         25 . The aerosol-generating article according to  claim 16 , wherein the aerosol-generating substrate has a density of between 275 milligrams per cubic centimetre and 500 milligrams per cubic centimetre. 
     
     
         26 . The aerosol-generating article according to  claim 16 , further comprising an upstream section located upstream of the aerosol-generating section, the upstream section comprising an upstream element having a downstream end abutting the aerosol-generating section. 
     
     
         27 . The aerosol-generating article according to  claim 16 , further comprising a downstream section located downstream of the aerosol-generating section, the downstream section comprising a support element having an upstream end abutting the aerosol-generating section. 
     
     
         28 . The aerosol-generating article according to  claim 16 , wherein the elongate internal heating element extends between an upstream end of the aerosol-generating section and a downstream end of the aerosol-generating section. 
     
     
         29 . An aerosol-generating system, comprising:
 an aerosol-generating article comprising:
 an aerosol-generating section comprising an aerosol-generating substrate comprising a plurality of strands of aerosol-generating material, 
 wherein the aerosol-generating substrate has a density of between 100 milligrams per cubic centimetre and 700 milligrams per cubic centimetre; and 
   an aerosol-generating device comprising an elongate internal heating element configured to be inserted into the aerosol-generating substrate of the aerosol-generating section of the aerosol-generating article,   wherein the aerosol-generating substrate is tobacco cut filler, and   wherein a ratio of a mean cut width of the tobacco cut filler to a width of the elongate internal heating element is between 0.05 and 4.   
     
     
         30 . The aerosol-generating system according to  claim 29 , wherein the tobacco cut filler has a mean cut width of between 0.3 millimetre and 2 millimetres. 
     
     
         31 . The aerosol-generating system according to  claim 29 , wherein the elongate internal heating element has a width of between 0.5 millimetre and 5 millimetres. 
     
     
         32 . The aerosol-generating system according to  claim 29 , wherein the ratio of the mean cut width of the tobacco cut filler to the width of the elongate internal heating element is between 0.06 and 3. 
     
     
         33 . The aerosol-generating system according to  claim 29 , wherein the ratio of the mean cut width of the tobacco cut filler to the width of the elongate internal heating element is between 0.13 and 1.5. 
     
     
         34 . The aerosol-generating system according to  claim 29 , wherein the aerosol-generating substrate has a mass of between 120 milligrams and 340 milligrams. 
     
     
         35 . The aerosol-generating system according to  claim 29 , wherein a ratio of an average length of the plurality of strands of aerosol-generating material to a length of the elongate internal heating element is between 0.1 and 1.
