Customizable mattress

Abstract

A customizable mattress includes a chassis defining a cavity. A spring pack is removably positioned within the cavity. A top pad removably covers at least a portion of the spring pack. In some embodiments, kits and methods of use are provided.

         21 . A kit comprising:
 a mattress configured to be self-assembled, the mattress comprising:
 a chassis defining a cavity, 
 a plurality of spring packs each having a respective firmness, the spring packs each being configured to be removably positioned within the cavity, and 
 a top pad configured to be removably cover at least a portion of the spring pack that is positioned in the cavity; and 
   instructions to self-assemble the mattress.   
     
     
         22 . The kit recited in  claim 21 , wherein the instructions include directions for inserting one of the spring packs into the cavity. 
     
     
         23 . The kit recited in  claim 22 , wherein the instructions include directions for positioning the top pad to cover the spring pack that was inserted into the cavity. 
     
     
         24 . The kit recited in  claim 21 , wherein the instructions include directions for inserting two of the spring packs into the cavity. 
     
     
         25 . The kit recited in  claim 24 , wherein the instructions include directions for positioning the top pad to cover the spring packs that were inserted into the cavity. 
     
     
         26 . The kit recited in  claim 21 , wherein the chassis includes a first side and a second side, the instructions including directions for inserting two of the spring packs into the cavity such that a first one of the spring packs is positioned in the first side and a second one of the spring packs is positioned in the second side. 
     
     
         27 . The kit recited in  claim 26 , wherein the instructions include directions for positioning the top pad to cover the spring packs that were inserted into the cavity. 
     
     
         28 . The kit recited in  claim 26 , wherein the instructions include directions for removing the first one of the spring packs and the second one of the spring packs from the cavity and then inserting the first one of the spring packs and the second one of the spring packs such that the first one of the spring packs is positioned in the second side and the first one of the spring packs is positioned in the first side. 
     
     
         29 . The kit recited in  claim 21 , wherein the top pad is a first top pad and the instructions include directions for positioning the first top pad to cover the spring packs positioned in the cavity. 
     
     
         30 . The kit recited in  claim 29 , wherein the instructions include directions for removing the first top pad from the chassis and then positioning a second top pad to removably cover the spring packs positioned in the cavity. 
     
     
         31 . The kit recited in  claim 30 , wherein the first top pad has a firmness that is different than a firmness of the second top pad. 
     
     
         32 . The kit recited in  claim 21 , wherein the chassis includes opposite front and rear walls and opposite first and second side walls each extending from the front wall to the rear wall, the top pad having a monolithic bottom wall configured to directly engage the walls and the side walls when the top pad covers the spring packs positioned in the cavity. 
     
     
         33 . The kit recited in  claim 21 , wherein self-assembly includes assembling the mattress using only one person. 
     
     
         34 . A method comprising:
 providing the kit recited in  claim 21 ; and   making the kit ready, prior to providing the kit, making the kit ready comprising selecting one of the spring packs from the plurality of spring packs, based upon a sleeper's body type.   
     
     
         35 . A method comprising:
 providing the kit recited in  claim 21 ; and   making the kit ready, prior to providing the kit, making the kit ready comprising selecting one of the spring packs from the plurality of spring packs based upon a sleeper's sleep preference.   
     
     
         35 . The method recited in claim  35 , wherein the top pad is a first top pad and the instructions include directions for positioning the first top pad to cover the spring pack that is positioned in the cavity, the instructions including directions for removing the first top pad from the chassis and then positioning a second top pad to removably cover the spring pack that is positioned in the cavity. 
     
     
         36 . The method recited in  claim 35 , wherein the first top pad has a firmness that is different than a firmness of the second top pad. 
     
     
         37 . A method comprising:
 providing the kit recited in  claim 21 ; and   making the kit ready, prior to providing the kit, making the kit ready comprising selecting a first one of the spring packs from the plurality of spring packs based upon a first sleeper's body type and/or sleep preference and selecting a second one of the spring packs from the plurality of spring packs based upon a second sleeper's body type and/or sleep preference.   
     
     
         38 . The method recited in  claim 37 , wherein the instructions include directions for inserting the first one of the spring packs and the second one of the spring packs in the cavity. 
     
     
         39 . The method recited in  claim 37 , wherein the top pad is a first top pad and the instructions include directions for positioning the first top pad to cover the spring packs that are positioned in the cavity, the instructions including directions for removing the first top pad from the chassis and then positioning a second top pad to removably cover the spring packs that are positioned in the cavity. 
     
     
         40 . A kit comprising:
 a mattress configured to be self-assembled, the mattress comprising:
 a chassis comprising opposite front and rear walls and opposite first and second side walls each extending from the front wall to the rear wall, inner surfaces of the walls and the side walls defining a cavity, 
 two spring packs each having a respective firmness, the spring packs each being configured to be removably positioned within the cavity, and 
 a top pad configured to be removably cover at least a portion of the spring packs that are positioned in the cavity, the top pad having a monolithic bottom wall configured to directly engage the walls and the side walls when the top pad covers the spring packs that are positioned in the cavity; and 
   instructions to self-assemble the mattress, self-assembly including assembling the mattress using only one person, the instructions including directions for inserting two of the spring packs into the cavity and directions for positioning the top pad to cover the spring packs that were inserted into the cavity.
