Abstract

A shelter system is shown and described. A hub for a shelter system is shown and described. A frame for a shelter system is shown and described. In one embodiment, the shelter system includes a frame, a cover and a hub. The frame may be collapsible. The cover is configured to fit with the frame. The hub may include a receiver slot, a receiver sleeve and an attachment projection. The result is a shelter system with reduced set up time, effort and requirements and improved strength and ease of use. The inventions may also be considered a shelter kit and/or a shelter and hub method.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed is:

         1 . A rapid-deployment shelter, comprising:
a shelter including a frame and a cover, wherein the frame is configured to alternate between a first opened position and a second retracted position, the frame comprising a set of frame poles, the frame poles including:
frame poles that are joined in pairs serving as leg poles,
frame poles that are joined in pairs serving as ceiling poles,
wherein the leg poles each adjoin to ceiling poles and the ceiling poles adjoin with each other to form an upper angle at a peak,
a set of hubs for assembly of the frame and connection of a portion of the frame poles, the set of hubs, each hub including:
a set of receiver slots, wherein each receiver slot is able to receive a frame pole end into the receiver slot,
a receiver sleeve medially positioned to the receiver slots,
a corner formed by two perpendicular slot walls belonging to two different receiver slots,
a set of attachment projections, each attachment projection spanning from an outer end of one slot wall to an outer end of another slot wall and forming an attachment point withing the corner.

2 . The rapid-deployment shelter of claim 1 , wherein each hub includes a slot floor along an outer edge, the outer edge including a recessed area, wherein the recessed area is adapted to accommodate a greater range of motion for a frame pole that is accepted in the respective receiver slot.

3 . The rapid-deployment shelter of claim 1 , wherein at least a portion of the set of hubs include a flat face along one side of the hub and a contoured face along an opposite side of the hub.

4 . The rapid-deployment shelter of claim 3 , each hub including two or more attachment projections.

5 . The rapid-deployment shelter of claim 4 , wherein the attachment projections are curved.

6 . The rapid-deployment shelter of claim 5 , wherein said attachment projections have an average vertical break of above 125 lbs.

7 . The rapid-deployment shelter of claim 6 , wherein said attachment projections have an average lateral break of above 150 lbs.

8 . The rapid-deployment shelter of claim 7 wherein each hub includes a set of attachment projections.

9 . The rapid-deployment shelter of claim 8 wherein the receiver sleeve is able to accept a frame pole.

10 . The rapid-deployment shelter of claim 1 wherein the frame poles joined in pairs include diverging ends.

11 . The rapid-deployment shelter of claim 10 wherein the diverging ends are received into different hubs in the set of hubs.

12 . The rapid-deployment shelter of claim 1 wherein the set of hubs include a portion of half-hubs.

13 . The rapid-deployment shelter of claim 12 wherein half-hubs include a flat face, a contoured face, and a lip face that extends perpendicularly between the flat face and the lip face.

14 . The rapid-deployment shelter of claim 1 including accessory attachments that latch onto the attachment projections to secure items inside the rapid-deployment shelter.

15 . The rapid-deployment shelter of claim 1 wherein the rapid-deployment shelter includes an exterior frame opening that forms a plane that is perpendicular to a ground surface. is shaped as a upward arch with angles formed along the arch where frame poles interface.

16 . The rapid-deployment shelter of claim 15 wherein the exterior frame opening is mateable with another emergency-deployment shelter including an exterior frame opening that forms a plane that is perpendicular to a ground surface.

17 . The rapid-deployment shelter of claim 15 wherein the ceiling frame poles mate to form an angle at a top peak.

18 . The rapid-deployment shelter of claim 17 wherein the ceiling frame poles are adjoined one with another through a hub interfaced with each of the adjoined frame poles.

19 . The rapid-deployment shelter of claim 1 wherein frame poles that are joined in pairs serving as ceiling poles along an exterior frame opening include diverging ends.

20 . The rapid-deployment shelter of claim 19 wherein each of the diverging ends of the ceiling poles meet with the diverging ends of the other ceiling poles to form one peak below another peak, with each peak including a hub adjoining the interfacing respective poles.
