Density Altitude Reticle
Abstract
A reticle may include a crosshair and a targeting section. The targeting section may include first markings, second markings, third markings, and fourth markings. The first markings may be configured to indicate a distance to a target based on a first characteristic of the target. The second markings may be configured to indicate the distance to the target based on a second characteristic of the target. The third markings may be configured to indicate a bullet drop compensation based on the distance to the target. The fourth markings may be configured to indicate a density altitude ballistic travel compensation based on the distance to the target and/or an altitude of the target. The fourth markings may also be configured to indicate a ballistic travel wind compensation based on the distance to the target, the altitude of the target, and/or a wind amount.

1 . A reticle comprising:
a crosshair; and a targeting section comprising:
a plurality of first markings configured to indicate a distance to a target based on a first characteristic of the target;
a plurality of second markings configured to indicate the distance to the target based on a second characteristic of the target;
a plurality of third markings configured to indicate a bullet drop compensation based on the distance to the target; and
a plurality of fourth markings configured to at least one of indicate a density altitude ballistic travel compensation based on the distance to the target and an altitude of the target; and
wherein the plurality of fourth markings are further configured to indicate a ballistic travel wind compensation based on the distance to the target, the altitude of the target, and a wind amount.
2 . The reticle of claim 1 , further comprising a plurality of wind compensation guide markings configured to indicate a ballistic travel wind compensation based on the distance to the target and the wind amount.
3 . The reticle of claim 1 , further comprising a ranging section that has a plurality of ranging section markings configured to indicate the distance to the target based on at least one of the first characteristic of the target and a third characteristic of the target.

The reticle of claim 3 , wherein the plurality of ranging section markings comprises a plurality of target height markings; wherein the third characteristic of the target comprises a height of the target; and wherein the plurality of target height markings are configured to indicate the distance to the target based on a height of the target.
5 . The reticle of claim 3 , wherein the plurality of ranging section markings comprises a plurality of target shoulder width markings; wherein the first characteristic of the target comprises a shoulder width of the target; and wherein the plurality of target shoulder width markings are configured to indicate the distance to the target based on the shoulder width of the target.

The reticle of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of first markings comprises a plurality of known length (KL) shoulder markings; wherein the first characteristic of the target comprises a shoulder width of the target; wherein the plurality of KL shoulder markings are configured to indicate the distance to the target based on the shoulder width of the target.
7 . The reticle of claim 6 , wherein the plurality of second markings comprise a plurality of known length (KL) upper torso markings; wherein the second characteristic of the target comprises a waist-to-shoulder height of the target; and wherein the plurality of KL upper torso markings are configured to indicate the distance to the target based on the waist-to-shoulder height of the target.

The reticle of claim 7 , wherein the plurality of KL shoulder markings and the plurality of KL upper torso markings form a plurality of known length (KL) box density altitude guides that correspond to the distance from the target while the target is filling one of the plurality of KL box density altitude guides.
9 . The reticle of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of third markings comprise a plurality of center of mass ballistic solution markings that are configured to indicate the bullet drop compensation based on the distance to the target.
10 . The reticle of claim 9 , wherein the plurality of density altitude markings comprises a plurality of first density altitude markings and a plurality of second density altitude markings; wherein the plurality of first density altitude markings provides a range of density altitude ballistic travel compensations; and wherein the plurality of first density altitude markings are configured to indicate the density altitude ballistic travel compensation based on the distance to the target and the altitude of the target.

The reticle of claim 1 , where the plurality of fourth markings comprises a plurality of density altitude markings that are configured to both indicate the density altitude ballistic travel compensation based on the distance to the target and the altitude of the target and indicate the ballistic travel wind compensation based on the distance to the target, the altitude of the target, and the wind amount.

The reticle of claim 11 , wherein the plurality of second density altitude markings provides a range of ballistic travel wind compensations; and wherein the plurality of second density altitude markings are configured to indicate the ballistic travel wind compensation based on the distance to the target, the altitude of the target, and the wind amount

The reticle according to claim 12 , wherein each first density altitude marking of the plurality of first density altitude markings comprises a bottom portion, a middle portion, and a top portion; and wherein the bottom portion of each first density altitude marking of the plurality of first density altitude markings corresponds to a density altitude compensation at a first altitude, the middle portion of each first density altitude marking of the plurality of first density altitude markings corresponds to a density altitude compensation at a second altitude, and the top portion of each first density altitude marking of the plurality of first density altitude markings corresponds to a density altitude compensation at a third altitude.
14 . A reticle, comprising:
a crosshair; and a targeting section comprising:
a plurality of known length (KL) shoulder markings configured to indicate the distance to a target based on a shoulder width of the target;
a plurality of known length (KL) upper torso markings configured to indicate the distance to the target based on a waist-to-shoulder height of the target;
a plurality of center of mass ballistic solution markings configured to indicate a bullet drop compensation based on the distance to the target; and
a plurality of density altitude markings configured to both indicate a density altitude ballistic travel compensation based on the distance to the target and an altitude of the target, and indicate a ballistic travel wind compensation based on the distance to the target, the altitude of the target, and a wind amount.
15 . The reticle of claim 14 , further comprising a plurality of wind compensation guide markings configured to indicate the ballistic travel wind compensation based on the distance to the target and the wind amount.
16 . The reticle of claim 14 , further comprising a ranging section that includes a plurality of target height markings and a plurality of target shoulder width markings; wherein the plurality of target height markings are configured to indicate the distance to the target based on a height of the target; and wherein the plurality of target shoulder width markings are configured to indicate the distance to the target based on the shoulder width of the target.

The reticle of claim 14 , wherein the plurality of KL shoulder markings and the plurality of KL upper torso markings form a plurality of known length (KL) box density altitude guides that correspond to the distance from the target while the target is filling one of the plurality of KL box density altitude guides.

The reticle of claim 14 , wherein the plurality of density altitude markings comprises a plurality of first density altitude markings and a plurality of second density altitude markings; wherein the plurality of first density altitude markings provides a range of density altitude ballistic travel compensations; wherein the plurality of first density altitude markings are configured to indicate the density altitude ballistic travel compensation based on the distance to the target and the altitude of the target; wherein the plurality of second density altitude markings provides a range of ballistic travel wind compensations; and wherein the plurality of second density altitude markings are configured to indicate the ballistic travel wind compensation based on the distance to the target, the altitude of the target, and the wind amount.

The reticle according to claim 18 , wherein each first density altitude marking of the plurality of first density altitude markings comprises a bottom portion, a middle portion, and a top portion; and wherein the bottom portion of each first density altitude marking of the plurality of first density altitude markings corresponds to a density altitude compensation at a first altitude, the middle portion of each first density altitude marking of the plurality of first density altitude markings corresponds to a density altitude compensation at a second altitude, and the top portion of each first density altitude marking of the plurality of first density altitude markings corresponds to a density altitude compensation at a third altitude.
20 . A reticle, comprising:
a crosshair; a ranging section comprising:
a plurality of target height markings; and
a plurality of target shoulder width markings;
wherein the plurality of target height markings are configured to indicate a distance to a target based on a height of the target; and
wherein the plurality of target shoulder width markings are configured to indicate the distance to the target based on a shoulder width of the target; and
a targeting section comprising:
a plurality of known length (KL) shoulder markings configured to indicate the distance to the target based on the shoulder width of the target;
a plurality of known length (KL) upper torso markings configured to indicate the distance to the target based on a waist-to-shoulder height of the target;
a plurality of center of mass ballistic solution markings configured to indicate a bullet drop compensation based on the distance to the target;
a plurality of density altitude markings comprising:
a plurality of first density altitude markings; and
a plurality of second density altitude markings;
wherein the plurality of first density altitude markings provides a range of density altitude ballistic travel compensations;
wherein the plurality of first density altitude markings are configured to indicate a density altitude ballistic travel compensation based on the distance to the target and an altitude of the target;
wherein the plurality of second density altitude markings provides a range of ballistic travel wind compensations;
wherein the plurality of second density altitude markings are configured to indicate a ballistic travel wind compensation based on the distance to the target, the altitude of the target, and a wind amount;
wherein each first density altitude marking of the plurality of first density altitude markings comprises a bottom portion, a middle portion, and a top portion; and
wherein the bottom portion of each first density altitude marking of the plurality of first density altitude markings corresponds to a density altitude compensation at a first altitude, the middle portion of each first density altitude marking of the plurality of first density altitude markings corresponds to a density altitude compensation at a second altitude, and the top portion of each first density altitude marking of the plurality of first density altitude markings corresponds to a density altitude compensation at a third altitude; and
a plurality of wind compensation guide markings configured to indicate the ballistic travel wind compensation based on the distance to the target and the wind amount;
