Door assembly for a laundry treating appliance

Abstract

A door assembly has a rear door and a hinge assembly. The rear door has a first portion and a second portion. The hinge assembly is mounted to the rear door. The hinge assembly is attached to one of either of the first portion or the second portion of the rear door.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A door assembly for a laundry treating appliance, the door assembly at least partially defining a treating chamber when the door assembly is in a closed condition, the door assembly comprising:
 a rear door having a first portion and a second portion, separate from the first portion; and   a hinge assembly attached to one of either the first portion or the second portion of the rear door.   
     
     
         2 . The door assembly of  claim 1 , further comprising a handle cover coupled to an other of the first portion and the second portion with respect to the hinge assembly, the handle cover at least partially defining a handle. 
     
     
         3 . The door assembly of  claim 2 , wherein the handle cover comprises a set of speaker openings. 
     
     
         4 . The door assembly of  claim 1 , wherein the first portion is located along an opposing side of the rear door with respect to the second portion. 
     
     
         5 . The door assembly of  claim 1 , further comprising a hinge cover coupled to one of either the first portion or the second portion corresponding to the hinge assembly. 
     
     
         6 . The door assembly of  claim 5 , wherein the hinge cover includes a set of speaker openings. 
     
     
         7 . The door assembly of  claim 6 , wherein the set of speaker openings are located at both an upper portion and a lower portion of the hinge cover. 
     
     
         8 . The door assembly of  claim 6 , wherein the rear door comprises a hole pattern provided in the rear door and opening to at least one of the first portion or the second portion, the hole pattern being configured to allow for a transmission of sound into the hinge cover and through the set of speaker openings. 
     
     
         9 . The door assembly of  claim 1 , wherein the hinge assembly is interchangeably attached to the first portion and the second portion. 
     
     
         10 . The door assembly of  claim 1 , further comprising:
 an intermediate door having a front surface and a rear surface and defining an opening; and   a door cover adjacent the front surface of the intermediate door;   wherein the rear door is adjacent the rear surface of the intermediate door.   
     
     
         11 . The door assembly of  claim 10 , wherein:
 the intermediate door has a cover hook opening; and   the intermediate door has a door hook engaging the cover hook opening.   
     
     
         12 . The door assembly of  claim 11 , further comprising:
 a trim element provided about at least a periphery of the intermediate door;   a post provided on one of the intermediate door or the trim element; and   a receiving opening provided on an other of the intermediate door or the trim element, the post being received within the receiving opening.   
     
     
         13 . The door assembly of  claim 12 , wherein the post is thermally deformed to create a cap securing the trim element to the intermediate door. 
     
     
         14 . The door assembly of  claim 12 , wherein:
 the post is included within a plurality of posts arranged about one of the intermediate door or the trim element; and   the receiving opening is included within a plurality of receiving openings arranged about an other of the intermediate door or the trim element.   
     
     
         15 . The door assembly of  claim 10 , further comprising:
 a trim element provided about at least a periphery of the intermediate door; and   a door window mounted to the rear door and overlying the opening.   
     
     
         16 . The door assembly of  claim 1 , further comprising a user interface. 
     
     
         17 . The door assembly of  claim 16 , further comprising a door cover overlying the user interface. 
     
     
         18 . A door assembly comprising:
 a rear door having a first portion and a second portion, separate from the first portion; and   a hinge assembly attached to one of either the first portion or the second portion of the rear door.   
     
     
         19 . The door assembly of  claim 18 , further comprising a handle cover coupled to an other of the first portion and the second portion with respect to the hinge assembly, the handle cover at least partially defining a handle. 
     
     
         20 . The door assembly of  claim 18 , wherein the hinge assembly is interchangeably attached to the first portion and the second portion.
