Abstract
Exterior wall system assemblies, exterior wall system component subassemblies, and exterior wall system components that incorporate drainage features are disclosed. The drainage features can include a channel or conduit assembly by which moisture that collects within concealed spaces of the respective exterior wall system assembly can migrate via gravity from the concealed spaces out through the exterior wall system assembly to the outside of the building.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedWhat is claimed is:
1 . An exterior wall system assembly comprising:
a substrate; an exterior sheathing layer mounted to the substrate; a water-resistant layer disposed on the exterior sheathing layer; an insulation layer mounted to the exterior sheathing layer, wherein the water-resistant layer is disposed between a portion of the insulation layer and the exterior sheathing, wherein the insulation layer comprises a channel formed therein, wherein the channel comprises a first channel leg, a second channel leg, and a channel nadir disposed between the first channel leg and the second channel leg, wherein the first channel leg and the second channel leg are aligned superior to the channel nadir; an air cavity disposed between a portion of the water-resistant layer and a portion of the insulation layer, wherein the channel is in fluid communication with the air cavity; and, a drainage tube aligned in fluid communication with the channel nadir, wherein the drainage tube is open to a front face of the exterior wall system assembly.
2 . The exterior wall system assembly of claim 1 , wherein the first channel leg comprises a first channel leg floor, wherein the first channel leg floor is aligned oblique to the exterior sheathing layer.
3 . The exterior wall system assembly of claim 2 , wherein the second channel leg comprises a second channel leg floor, and wherein the second channel leg floor is aligned oblique to the exterior sheathing layer.
4 . The exterior wall system assembly of claim 1 , wherein the first channel leg and the second channel leg cooperate to form a channel trough, and wherein the channel nadir is disposed at a channel trough base of the channel trough.
5 . The exterior wall system assembly of claim 1 , wherein the channel comprises a third channel leg, a fourth channel leg, and a second channel nadir disposed between the third channel leg and the fourth channel leg, and wherein the third channel leg and the fourth channel leg are disposed superior to the second channel nadir.
6 . The exterior wall system assembly of claim 5 , wherein the channel comprises a channel apex disposed between the first channel leg and the third channel leg.
7 . The exterior wall system assembly of claim 5 , wherein the third channel leg and the fourth channel leg cooperate to form a second channel trough, and wherein the second channel nadir is disposed at a second channel trough base.
8 . The exterior wall system assembly of claim 5 , comprising a second drainage tube aligned in fluid communication with the second channel nadir.
9 . The exterior wall system assembly of claim 8 , wherein the second channel tube is open to the front face of the exterior wall system assembly.
10 . The exterior wall system assembly of claim 5 , wherein the third channel leg comprises a third channel leg floor, and wherein the third channel leg floor is aligned oblique to the exterior sheathing layer.
11 . The exterior wall system assembly of claim 10 , wherein the fourth channel leg comprises a fourth channel leg floor, and wherein the fourth channel leg floor is aligned oblique to the exterior sheathing layer.
12 . The exterior wall system assembly of claim 1 , comprising a water barrier membrane disposed in the channel.
13 . The exterior wall system assembly of claim 1 , comprising an adhesive layer disposed between the insulation layer and the water-resistant layer.
14 . The exterior wall system assembly of claim 1 , wherein the insulation layer comprises a plurality of insulation boards.
15 . An exterior wall system assembly comprising:
a substrate; an exterior sheathing layer mounted to the substrate; a water-resistant layer disposed on the exterior sheathing layer; an insulation layer mounted to the exterior sheathing layer, wherein the water-resistant layer is disposed between a portion of the insulation layer and the exterior sheathing, wherein the insulation layer comprises a channel formed therein, wherein the channel comprises a plurality of channel legs, and a plurality of channel nadirs, wherein each channel nadir is disposed between and inferior to two channel legs of the plurality of channel legs; and, an air cavity disposed between a portion of the water-resistant layer and a portion of the insulation layer, and wherein the channel is in fluid communication with the air cavity.
16 . The exterior wall system assembly of claim 15 , comprising a plurality of drainage tubes aligned in fluid communication with the channel.
17 . The exterior wall system assembly of claim 16 , wherein each drainage tube of the plurality of drainage tubes is open to a channel nadir of the plurality of channel nadirs.
18 . The exterior wall system assembly of claim 17 , wherein each drainage tube of the plurality of drainage tubes is open to a front face of the exterior wall system assembly.
19 . The exterior wall system assembly of claim 15 , wherein each channel leg of the plurality of channel legs comprises a channel leg floor, and wherein the channel leg floor of each channel leg of the plurality of channel legs is aligned oblique to the exterior sheathing layer.
20 . An exterior wall system assembly comprising:
a substrate; an exterior sheathing layer mounted to the substrate; a water-resistant layer disposed on the exterior sheathing layer; an insulation layer mounted to the exterior sheathing layer, wherein the water-resistant layer is disposed between a portion of the insulation layer and the exterior sheathing, wherein the insulation layer comprises a channel formed therein, a water barrier membrane disposed in the channel, wherein the channel comprises a first side channel leg, a first mid leg channel, a first channel trough disposed between the first channel mid leg and the first channel side leg, a second channel mid leg, a second channel side leg, a second channel trough disposed between the second mid leg channel, a channel apex disposed between the first channel mid leg and the second channel mid leg, a first channel nadir disposed between the first channel mid leg and the first channel side leg, a second channel nadir disposed between the second channel mid leg and the second channel side leg, and wherein the insulation layer comprises a plurality of insulation boards; an air cavity disposed between a portion of the water-resistant layer and a portion of the insulation layer, wherein the channel is in fluid communication with the air cavity; a first drainage tube aligned in fluid communication with the first channel nadir, wherein the first drainage tube is open to a front face of the exterior wall system assembly; and, a second drainage tube aligned in fluid communication with the second channel nadir, wherein the second drainage tube is open to the front face to the exterior wall system assembly.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
