Abstract
A firearm accessory may include an elongate body having an end that is positioned adjacent to a firing end of a barrel of a firearm. The firearm accessory may also include a piston assembly that is located at least partially within the elongate body. A first end of the piston assembly may be configured to be secured to the barrel of the firearm. The piston assembly may also include an indexing ring positioned at a second end of the piston assembly. The elongate body and the piston assembly may be rotatable relative to one another about a longitudinal axis that extends from the first end of the piston assembly to the second end of the piston assembly. The firearm accessory may also include an orientation assembly that includes a pawl and a selector component for selectively disengaging the pawl with the indexing ring of the piston assembly.

2 . An apparatus, comprising:
an elongate body; a piston assembly located at least partially within the elongate body, wherein the piston assembly comprises an indexing ring; and an orientation assembly connected to the elongate body, wherein the orientation assembly comprises:
a pawl; and
a button that is configured to selectively disengage the pawl with a surface of the indexing ring, wherein the pawl is configured to prevent the elongate body from rotating relative to the piston assembly in at least a first direction when the pawl is engaged with the surface of the indexing ring.
3 . The apparatus of claim 2 , wherein the button is configured to selectively engage the pawl with at least a portion of the indexing ring.
4 . The apparatus of claim 2 , wherein:
the orientation assembly comprises a spring configured to bias a locking end of the pawl toward the indexing ring; and the button comprises an actuator, and the orientation assembly is configured to transfer a force received at the actuator to the pawl, and the actuator is configured to disengage the locking end of the pawl in response to the force received at the actuator overcoming a bias of the spring.
5 . The apparatus of claim 2 , wherein:
the button comprises an actuator, and a surface of the actuator is configured to engage with a surface of the pawl; a top portion of the surface of the actuator engages the surface of the pawl; and an end of the pawl engages the surface of the indexing ring.
6 . The apparatus of claim 5 , wherein:
the button further comprises a base connected to the actuator; the base is configured to move the actuator toward a longitudinal axis of the piston assembly; and the actuator is configured to engage the pawl when the actuator is moved toward the longitudinal axis.
7 . The apparatus of claim 6 , wherein:
the end of the pawl is configured to disengage the surface of the indexing ring.
8 . The apparatus of claim 6 , wherein:
the elongate body comprises a spring retainer that extends from the elongate body; and the orientation assembly comprises a spring positioned between a surface of the spring retainer and an opposing surface of the base.
9 . The apparatus of claim 5 , wherein:
a second surface of the actuator is opposite the surface of the actuator, and the second surface of the actuator is interlocked with a surface of a second pawl; a top portion of the second surface of the actuator engages a top portion of the surface of the second pawl; and a locking end of the second pawl engages the surface of the indexing ring.
10 . The apparatus of claim 2 , wherein:
the button comprises a second actuator with a surface that is configured to be engaged with a surface of the pawl; a locking end of the pawl is configured to be biased in an engaged position with the surface of the indexing ring; and a top portion of the surface of the second actuator is configured to engage with a top portion of the surface of the pawl.
11 . The apparatus of claim 10 , wherein:
the second actuator comprises a second surface configured to rotate the second actuator; the top portion of the surface is configured to engage with a surface of the pawl when the second actuator is rotated in at least a first direction; and the pawl is configured to disengage from the surface of the indexing ring when the second actuator is rotated in the first direction.
12 . The apparatus of claim 10 , wherein the orientation assembly further comprises:
a second pawl; and a spring that connects the pawl to the second pawl, and the spring being configured to bias the locking end of the pawl and an end of the second pawl in the engaged position.
13 . An assembly, comprising:
a pawl connected to an elongate body; a spring configured to bias at least the pawl in an engaged position with a surface of an indexing ring of a piston assembly disposed at least partially within the elongate body; and a button configured to selectively disengage the pawl from the surface of the indexing ring to enable rotational movement of the elongate body relative to the piston assembly.
14 . The assembly of claim 13 , further comprising:
a retainer connected to the elongate body, wherein the spring is positioned between the retainer and a base of the button.
15 . The assembly of claim 13 , further comprising:
a cover configured to enclose the pawl, the spring, and the button.
16 . The assembly of claim 13 , further comprising:
a second pawl connected to the elongate body, wherein the spring is configured to bias the second pawl in the engaged position with the surface of the indexing ring.
17 . The assembly of claim 13 , wherein the button comprises:
a shaft configured to interact with the pawl; and a base connected to the shaft and configured to move the shaft linearly.
18 . A method, comprising:
providing a suppressor comprising:
an elongate body;
a piston assembly located at least partially within the elongate body, wherein the piston assembly comprises an indexing ring; and
an orientation assembly connected to the elongate body, the orientation assembly comprising:
a pawl; and
a button that is configured to selectively disengage the pawl with a surface of the indexing ring, wherein the pawl is configured to prevent the elongate body from rotating relative to the piston assembly in at least a first direction when engaged with the surface of the indexing ring;
attaching the suppressor to a firearm; and operating the button, wherein the pawl disengages with the surface of the indexing ring based on the button being operated.
19 . The method of claim 18 , wherein:
operating the button comprises depressing the button; and the method further comprises releasing the button based on rotating the elongate body to a position relative to the piston assembly.
