Golf club head including a removable weight

Abstract

The presently disclosed technology is directed to a golf club head including a removable weight to fit into a weight recess. The removable weight may include one or more rib cavities and one or more ribs.

We claim: 
     
         1 . A golf club head comprising a lower muscle portion comprising a back flange comprising a weight recess, wherein the golf club head further comprises a removable weight to fit into the weight recess, and wherein the removable weight comprises:
 a body portion comprising:
 a rear surface comprising:
 one or more rib cavities extending from near a top of the body portion to near a bottom of the body portion; and 
 one or more ribs between pairs of the one or more rib cavities; 
 
   a cover portion to cover the weight recess in an installed position;   a weight height between about 13 mm to about 17 mm;   a weight width between about 60 mm and about 65 mm; and   a weight depth between about 4 mm and about 9 mm.   
     
     
         2 . The golf club head of  claim 1 , wherein each of the one or more ribs have a rib width between about 0.5 mm and about 1.5 mm. 
     
     
         3 . The golf club head of  claim 1 , wherein each of the one or more rib cavities have a cavity width between about 1.5 mm and about 2.5 mm. 
     
     
         4 . The golf club head of  claim 1 , wherein the golf club head comprises an adhesive to at least fill in the one or more rib cavities in the installed position. 
     
     
         5 . The golf club head of  claim 1 , wherein the golf club head is a wedge-type golf club head. 
     
     
         6 . The golf club head of  claim 1 , wherein the body portion comprises:
 a body height between about 9 mm and about 13 mm;   a body width between about 40 mm and about 45 mm; and   a body depth between about 4 mm and about 9 mm.   
     
     
         7 . The golf club head of  claim 1 , wherein the cover portion comprises:
 a cover height between about 3 mm and about 7 mm;   a cover width between about 60 mm and about 65 mm; and   a cover depth between about 4 mm and about 9 mm.   
     
     
         8 . A set of golf club heads comprising:
 a right handed golf club head comprising a first lower muscle portion comprising a first back flange comprising a first weight recess, wherein the right handed golf club head further comprises a removable weight to fit into the first weight recess, and wherein the removable weight comprises:
 a body portion comprising:
 a rear surface comprising:
 one or more rib cavities extending from a top of the body portion to a bottom of the body portion; and 
 one or more ribs between pairs of the one or more rib cavities; 
 
 
 a cover portion; 
 a weight height between about 13 mm to about 17 mm; 
 a weight width between about 60 mm and about 65 mm; and 
 a weight depth between about 4 mm and about 9 mm; and 
   a left handed golf club head comprising a second lower muscle portion comprising a second back flange comprising a second weight recess, wherein the second weight recess is configured to receive the removable weight.   
     
     
         9 . The set of golf club heads of  claim 8 , wherein the body portion comprises a first body end and a second body end, wherein the first body end fits in a toeward end of the first weight recess in a first installed position corresponding to the right handed golf club head or a heelward end of the second weight recess in a second installed position corresponding to the left handed golf club head, and wherein the second body end fits in a heelward end of the first weight recess in the first installed position corresponding to the right handed golf club head or a toeward end of the second weight recess in the second installed position corresponding to the left handed golf club head. 
     
     
         10 . The set of golf club heads of  claim 9 , wherein the cover portion comprises a first cover end and a second cover end, wherein the first cover end covers the toeward end of the first weight recess corresponding to the right handed golf club head or the heelward end of the second weight recess corresponding to the left handed golf club head, and wherein the second cover end covers the heelward end of the first weight recess corresponding to the right handed golf club head or the toeward end of the second weight recess corresponding to the left handed golf club head. 
     
     
         11 . The set of golf club heads of  claim 8 , wherein each of the one or more ribs have a rib width between about 0.5 mm and about 1.5 mm. 
     
     
         12 . The set of golf club heads of  claim 8 , wherein each of the one or more rib cavities have a cavity width between about 1.5 mm and about 2.5 mm. 
     
     
         13 . The set of golf club heads of  claim 8 , wherein each of the right handed golf club head and the left handed golf club head comprise an adhesive to at least fill in the one or more rib cavities in an installed position. 
     
     
         14 . The set of golf club heads of  claim 8 , wherein the body portion comprises:
 a body height between about 9 mm and about 13 mm;   a body width between about 40 mm and about 45 mm; and   a body depth between about 4 mm and about 9 mm.   
     
     
         15 . The set of golf club heads of  claim 8 , wherein the cover portion comprises:
 a cover height between about 3 mm and about 7 mm;   a cover width between about 60 mm and about 65 mm; and   a cover depth between about 4 mm and about 9 mm.   
     
     
         16 . A golf club head comprising a lower muscle portion comprising a back flange comprising a weight recess, wherein the golf club head further comprises a removable weight to fit into the weight recess, and wherein the removable weight comprises:
 a body portion comprising:
 a rear surface comprising:
 one or more rib cavities extending from a top of the body portion to a bottom of the body portion; 
 one or more ribs between pairs of the one or more rib cavities; 
 a body height between about 9 mm and about 13 mm; 
 a body width between about 40 mm and about 45 mm; and 
 a body depth between about 4 mm and about 9 mm; and 
 
   a cover portion to cover the weight recess in an installed position, wherein the cover portion comprises:
 a cover height between about 3 mm and about 7 mm; 
 a cover width between about 60 mm and about 65 mm; and 
 a cover depth between about 4 mm and about 9 mm. 
   
     
     
         17 . The golf club head of  claim 16 , wherein each of the one or more ribs have a rib width between about 0.5 mm and about 1.5 mm. 
     
     
         18 . The golf club head of  claim 16 , wherein each of the one or more rib cavities have a cavity width between about 1.5 mm and about 2.5 mm. 
     
     
         19 . The golf club head of  claim 16 , wherein the golf club head comprises an adhesive to at least fill in the one or more rib cavities in the installed position. 
     
     
         20 . The removable weight of  claim 16 , wherein the removable weight comprises a metal.
