Abstract
Can ends having re-closable covers are disclosed. An example can end assembly includes a can end having a center panel that defines a pour panel and a cover rotatably coupled to the can end. The cover has a diameter that is greater than a diameter of the can end. The cover is rotatable relative to the can end between a first position to at least one of prevent or restrict access to the pour panel and a second position to enable access to the pour panel.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedWhat is claimed is:
1 . A can end assembly comprising:
a can end having a first center panel that defines a pour panel; and a cover rotatably coupled to the can end, the cover having a first outermost diameter that is greater than a second outermost diameter of the can end, the cover rotatable relative to the can end between a first position to at least one of prevent or restrict access to the pour panel and a second position to enable access to the pour panel.
2 . The can end assembly of claim 1 , wherein the cover includes a first opening, the first opening of the cover offset relative to the pour panel such that the first opening is misaligned with the pour panel to at least one of restrict or prevent access to the pour panel when the cover is in the first position.
3 . The can end assembly of claim 2 , wherein the cover includes a second center panel coupled to a circumferential wall by a countersink and a panel wall, and a peripheral edge coupled to the circumferential wall.
4 . The can end assembly of claim 3 , wherein the peripheral edge defines the first outermost diameter of the cover.
5 . The can end assembly of claim 1 , wherein a peripheral edge of the cover is coupled to a seam of the can end.
6 . The can end assembly of claim 1 , further including a tab, wherein the cover is positioned between the tab and the can end.
7 . A can assembly comprising:
a can body; a can end coupled to the can body via a seam; and a cover rotatably coupled to the can end, the cover having a peripheral edge, at least a portion of the peripheral edge coupled to the seam of the can end to rotatably couple the cover and the can end.
8 . The can assembly of claim 7 , wherein the can end includes a first center panel that includes a pour panel, a rivet defining an axis of rotation, a first circumferential wall and a seaming curl, wherein the first circumferential wall couples the first center panel and the seaming curl, the seaming curl couples to an end of the can body to define the seam.
9 . The can assembly of claim 8 , wherein the cover includes a second center panel defining an access opening, the second center panel coupled to a second circumferential wall via a panel wall.
10 . The can assembly of claim 9 , wherein the second circumferential wall is at least one of curved or bent over the seam.
11 . The can assembly of claim 9 , wherein the second circumferential wall has an end that wraps around the seam.
12 . The can assembly of claim 8 , wherein the cover at least one of extends over at least a portion of the first circumferential wall of the can end.
13 . The can assembly of claim 7 , wherein the peripheral edge has an end, wherein the end of the peripheral edge of the cover is positioned underneath a lowermost edge of the seam.
14 . The can assembly of claim 7 , wherein the peripheral edge has an end, wherein the end is tucked underneath the seam.
15 . A can end assembly comprising:
a can end having a first center panel, a rivet, a first circumferential wall, a seaming curl and a first countersink that couples the first circumferential wall and the first center panel; and a cover coupled to the can end, the cover including a second center panel, a second circumferential wall, a second countersink to couple the second center panel and the second circumferential wall, and a peripheral edge extending from the second circumferential wall.
16 . The can end assembly of claim 15 , wherein the seaming curl of the can end defines a first diameter of the can end, wherein the peripheral edge of the cover defines a second diameter of the cover, wherein the second diameter is greater than the first diameter.
17 . The can end assembly of claim 15 , wherein the first center panel of the can end defines a pour panel and the second center panel of the cover defines an access opening, the cover rotates relative to the can end between a first position to move the access opening in alignment with the pour panel to enable access to the pour panel and a second position to misalign the access opening and the pour panel to restrict access to the pour panel.
18 . The can end assembly of claim 15 , further including a tab coupled to the rivet of the can end, the cover positioned between the tab and the can end.
19 . The can end assembly of claim 15 , wherein the second countersink of the cover is at least partially positioned within the first countersink of the can end when the cover is coupled to the can end.
20 . The can end assembly of claim 15 , wherein the peripheral edge includes at least one of: a plurality of seaming curls spaces circumferentially relative to a longitudinal axis of the cover; or a continuous seaming curl about a circumference of the cover.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
