Trigger safety systems and methods
Abstract
A firearm safety mechanism assembly is provided. The firearm safety mechanism assembly includes a firearm with a receiver, a trigger guard coupled to the firearm, and a housing pin. The firearm safety mechanism assembly includes a trigger safety mechanism. The trigger safety mechanism includes a plate, a rod extending from the plate, a trigger coupled to the rod, and a lever nested within the trigger. The lever includes a lever first end and a lever second end, where the lever rotates between a first position and a second position. In the first position, the lever first end abuts a housing pin.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedWe claim:
1 . A trigger safety mechanism for a firearm, the trigger safety mechanism comprising:
a plate; a rod extending from the plate; a trigger directly coupled to the rod and configured to rotate with the rod relative to a receiver of the firearm; and a lever nested within the trigger and rotatably coupled to the trigger at a joint, the lever configured to rotate relative to the trigger between a first position and a second position.
2 . The trigger safety mechanism of claim 1 , wherein:
the lever is configured to abut a housing pin of the firearm when the lever is in the first position, thereby preventing rotation of the trigger relative to the receiver; and the lever is configured to not contact the housing pin when the lever is in the second position.
3 . The trigger safety mechanism of claim 2 , wherein:
an end of the lever is configured to abut the housing pin when the lever is in the first position; and the end of the lever is configured to not contact the housing pin when the lever is in the second position.
4 . The trigger safety mechanism of claim 1 , wherein the plate is configured to rotate with the rod and the trigger relative to the receiver.
5 . The trigger safety mechanism of claim 1 , wherein:
the trigger comprises a trigger first arm and a trigger second arm; the lever is disposed between the trigger first arm and the trigger second arm; and the joint is disposed between the trigger first arm and the trigger second arm.
6 . The trigger safety mechanism of claim 1 , further comprising a biasing member engaging the trigger and the lever and configured to bias the lever to the first position.
7 . The trigger safety mechanism of claim 6 , wherein:
the biasing member is configured to assume a resting position when the lever is in the first position; and the biasing member is configured to assume a compressed position when the lever is in the first position.
8 . The trigger safety mechanism of claim 6 , wherein the biasing member is a compression spring.
9 . The trigger safety mechanism of claim 6 , wherein the biasing member is disposed within a channel extending between the trigger and the lever.
10 . The trigger safety mechanism of claim 1 , wherein the channel comprises:
a channel first portion defined within the trigger; and a channel second portion defined within the lever.
11 . A firearm safety mechanism assembly, comprising:
a receiver; a plate; a rod extending from the plate; a trigger directly coupled to the rod and configured to rotate with the rod relative to the receiver; and a lever nested within the trigger and rotatably coupled to the trigger at a joint, the lever configured to rotate relative to the trigger between a first position and a second position.
12 . The firearm safety mechanism assembly of claim 11 , further comprising a housing pin, wherein:
the lever is configured to abut the housing pin when the lever is in the first position, thereby preventing rotation of the trigger relative to the receiver; and the lever is configured to not contact the housing pin when the lever is in the second position.
13 . The firearm safety mechanism assembly of claim 12 , wherein:
an end of the lever is configured to abut the housing pin when the lever is in the first position; and the end of the lever is configured to not contact the housing pin when the lever is in the second position.
14 . The firearm safety mechanism assembly of claim 11 , wherein the plate is configured to rotate with the rod and the trigger relative to the receiver.
15 . The firearm safety mechanism assembly of claim 11 , wherein:
the trigger comprises a trigger first arm and a trigger second arm; the lever is disposed between the trigger first arm and the trigger second arm; and the joint is disposed between the trigger first arm and the trigger second arm.
16 . The firearm safety mechanism assembly of claim 11 , further comprising a biasing member engaging the trigger and the lever and configured to bias the lever to the first position.
17 . The firearm safety mechanism assembly of claim 16 , wherein:
the biasing member is configured to assume a resting position when the lever is in the first position; and the biasing member is configured to assume a compressed position when the lever is in the first position.
18 . The firearm safety mechanism assembly of claim 16 , wherein the biasing member is disposed within a channel extending between the trigger and the lever.
19 . The firearm safety mechanism assembly of claim 18 , wherein the channel comprises:
a channel first portion defined within the trigger; and a channel second portion defined within the lever.
20 . The firearm safety mechanism assembly of claim 11 , further comprising a trigger bar, wherein the plate is coupled to the trigger bar.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
