Removable bow seating system for pontoon boats
Abstract
A removable seating system for pontoon boats comprises a seating deck having a planar surface and mounting slots, and vertical mounting assemblies adjustably coupled to the seating platform via the slots. A removable pin extends through mounting holes in the assemblies to engage with a boat structure, securing the system in place. The seating platform is rotatable between a lowered position for seating passengers approximately at water level and a raised position. The system facilitates safe water entry and exit and use of flotation devices. Additional features include a textured slip-resistant surface, corrosion-resistant materials, tie-down points, a locking mechanism for the pin, a seat cushion, lightweight high-strength deck materials, a folding backrest, height adjustment, and a retractable canopy.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedWhat is claimed is:
1 . A removable seating system for a pontoon boat, comprising:
a. a seating platform comprising a planar surface adapted for supporting at least one seated person at approximately water level, the seating platform having a plurality of mounting slots disposed along opposing edges of the seating platform; b. two vertical mounting assemblies, each vertical mounting assembly comprising:
i. a triangular shaped mount piece having a height ranging from approximately 6 - 36 inches, and a length ranging from approximately 6 - 40 inches;
ii. a mounting hole disposed approximately 5-35 inches from a bottom edge of the triangular shaped mount piece and approximately 3.75 inches from a rear edge of the triangular shaped mount piece; and
iii. the two triangular shaped mount pieces spaced apart by approximately 1-8 inches and coupled to the seating platform via fasteners extending through a plurality of mounting slots, wherein the mounting slots allow for adjustable positioning of the two vertical mounting assemblies;
iv. a removable pin configured to extend through the mounting hole of each vertical mounting assembly and engage with a cleat, eyelet, or bracket attached to the pontoon boat;
c. wherein the seating platform is configurable between a lowered position for supporting the at least one seated person at approximately water level and a raised position to avoid interference with the pontoons, d. wherein the seating system does not interfere with ropes or anchors attached to a cleat, eyelet, or bracket when the removable pin is engaged, and e. wherein the seating system is configured to facilitate safe entry and exit to and from the water at a position spaced away from a motor and propeller of the pontoon boat.
2 . The removable seating system of claim 1 , wherein the seating platform further comprises a textured, slip-resistant surface to enhance user safety when entering or exiting the water.
3 . The removable seating system of claim 1 , wherein the vertical mounting assemblies are constructed from a corrosion-resistant material selected from the group consisting of stainless steel, aluminum, and marine-grade wood or polymers.
4 . The removable seating system of claim 1 , further comprising a plurality of tie-down points disposed along the perimeter of the seating platform, the tie-down points configured to secure recreational flotation devices to the seating system.
5 . The removable seating system of claim 1 , wherein the removable pin is secured in place by a locking mechanism selected from the group consisting of a cotter pin, a locking nut, and a spring-loaded ball detent.
6 . The removable seating system of claim 1 , further comprising a padded seat cushion removably attached to the seating platform to provide additional comfort for seated users.
7 . The removable seating system of claim 1 , wherein the seating platform is constructed from a lightweight, high-strength material selected from the group consisting of marine-grade plywood, fiberglass-reinforced plastic, and aluminum extrusions, honeycomb panels.
8 . The removable seating system of claim 1 , further comprising a folding backrest pivotally attached to the seating platform, the folding backrest being adjustable between a raised position for supporting a seated user's back and a lowered position for compact storage.
9 . The removable seating system of claim 1 , wherein the vertical mounting assemblies further comprise a plurality of height adjustment holes, allowing the seating platform to be positioned at various heights relative to the water level to accommodate users of different sizes and preferences.
10 . The removable seating system of claim 1 , further comprising a retractable canopy, wherein the retractable canopy can be deployed to provide shade and protection from the elements for seated users.
11 . A removable seating assembly for attachment to a pontoon boat, comprising:
a. a seating platform comprising a planar surface adapted for supporting one or more seated individuals, the seating platform having a plurality of mounting holes disposed along opposing lateral edges; b. a pair of vertical mounting brackets, each vertical mounting bracket comprising:
i. a pair of triangular-shaped bodies each having a height dimension ranging from approximately 6-36 inches and a length dimension ranging from approximately 6-40 inches,
ii. one or more mounting holes disposed through the pair of triangular-shaped bodies at a position ranging from approximately 5-35 inches from a bottom edge of the body and approximately 1-8 inches from a rear edge of the triangular-shaped body; and
iii. wherein the pair of triangular-shaped bodies are spaced apart by approximately 1-8 inches and are coupled to the seating platform via fasteners extending through a plurality of mounting slots;
c. one or more removable pins adapted to extend through the mounting holes on the pair of vertical mounting brackets and engage with a cleat, eyelet, or bracket mounted on the pontoon boat; d. wherein the seating assembly is rotatable between a lowered position in which the seating platform is disposed slightly above or at a water level to allow the one or more seated individuals to interact with the water without entering the water, and a raised position in which the seating platform is rotated upward for stowage.
12 . The removable seating assembly of claim 11 , wherein the seating platform comprises a rigid, planar material selected from the group consisting of wood, metal, and plastic.
13 . The removable seating assembly of claim 11 , wherein the pair of vertical mounting brackets each comprise a triangular-shaped body having a hypotenuse edge angled at approximately 30-60 degrees relative to the bottom edge.
14 . The removable seating assembly of claim 11 , wherein the pair of vertical mounting brackets are coupled to the opposing lateral edges of the seating platform via a plurality of bolts, screws, or rivets extending through the plurality of mounting holes.
15 . The removable seating assembly of claim 11 , further comprising a plurality of cleats disposed on a top surface of the seating platform and adapted to secure one or more recreational flotation devices.
16 . The removable seating assembly of claim 11 , wherein the one or more removable pins further comprise a locking mechanism selected from the group consisting of a cotter pin, lock washer, and locking nut.
