Abstract

A topical dosing dispenser including a child resistant closure system and/or a child resistant rotatable base system.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A child resistant closure system for a topical dosing dispenser, the closure system comprising:
 an applicator dimensioned and configured to be secured to a first end of a container body, the applicator including a top wall having an aperture for dispensing a flowable composition from the container body; and   a cap dimensioned and configured to be secured over the applicator in a child resistant configuration, the cap including:
 a top wall for covering the aperture of the applicator when the cap is secured over the applicator, and 
 at least one child resistant engagement mechanism, 
   wherein the at least one child resistant engagement mechanism of the cap is positioned and configured to engage a corresponding cap engagement mechanism in the child resistant configuration when the cap is secured over the applicator and a child-resistant action is required to disengage the at least one child resistant engagement mechanism from the corresponding cap engagement mechanism to remove the cap from the applicator.   
     
     
         2 . The child resistant closure system of  claim 1  wherein a deflectable portion of the cap is operable to be deflected to facilitate and retain engagement of at least one child resistant engagement mechanism with the corresponding cap engagement mechanism. 
     
     
         3 . The child resistant closure system of  claim 1  wherein the cap engagement mechanism includes a latch receiver having a notch and wherein the at least one child resistant engagement mechanism is retained within the notch of the latch receiver when the cap is secured over the applicator in the child resistant configuration. 
     
     
         4 . The child resistant closure system of  claim 3  wherein the cap includes a sidewall operable to be deflected downward to disengage the at least one child resistant engagement mechanism from the notch of the cap engagement mechanism. 
     
     
         5 . The child resistant closure system of  claim 2  wherein, when the cap is secured over the applicator in the child resistant configuration, the top wall of the applicator and the top wall of the cap are positioned and configured such that the top wall of the applicator exerts an upward force on the top wall of the cap thereby sealing the aperture in the top wall of the applicator. 
     
     
         6 . The child resistant closure system of  claim 5  wherein an inner surface of the top wall of the cap further includes a sealing protrusion dimensioned and configured to be inserted into the aperture of the applicator when the cap is secured over the applicator. 
     
     
         7 . The child resistant closure system of  claim 4  wherein the applicator includes a dome shape such that an interstice is formed between an outer edge of the top wall of the cap and an outer edge of the top wall of the applicator when the cap is secured over the applicator. 
     
     
         8 . The child resistant closure system of  claim 7  wherein the sidewall of the cap includes at least one arm that is operable to be deflected downward upon a push-down action on the cap to disengage the at least one child resistant engagement mechanism from the corresponding cap engagement mechanism. 
     
     
         9 . The child resistant closure system of  claim 8  wherein the at least one arm includes an upper portion that extends at least partially above the top wall of the cap when the cap is secured over the applicator. 
     
     
         10 . A topical dosing dispenser for a flowable composition, the topical dosing dispenser comprising:
 a container body defining a chamber for housing the flowable composition, the chamber;   a plunger disposed within the chamber for dispensing the flowable composition upon advancement of the plunger within the chamber;   a child resistant base system including:
 a first base member rotatable relative to the container body, the first base member including one or more second base member engagement mechanisms, and 
 a second base member rotatable relative to the container body, the second base member including one or more first base member engaging mechanisms operable to engage the one or more second base engagement mechanisms of the first base member upon a child resistant action being performed on the second base member, 
   wherein the second base member is configured to rotate independently of the first base member,   wherein, when the child resistant action is performed on the second base member, the one or more first base engaging mechanisms of the second base member are dimensioned and configured to engage the one or more second base member engaging mechanisms of the first base member such that rotation of the second base member further rotates the first base member, and   wherein rotation of the first base member is operable to advance the plunger within the chamber.   
     
     
         11 . The topical dosing dispenser of  claim 10  wherein the second base member includes a sidewall having one or more deflectable portions that are operable to move during the child resistant action from an undeflected position in which the second base member is configured to rotate independently of the first base member to a deflected position in which the one or more first base member engaging mechanisms of the second base member engage the one or more second base member engaging mechanisms of the first base member. 
     
     
         12 . The topical dosing dispenser of  claim 11  wherein:
 the one or more second base member engagement mechanisms of the first base member include a plurality of vertical ribs extending radially around an exterior surface of a sidewall of the first base member, 
 each of the one or more deflectable portions of the sidewall of the second base member includes a deflectable tab formed into the sidewall of the second base member, and 
 each of the deflectable tabs include one of the one or more first base member engaging mechanisms for engaging the plurality of vertical ribs of the first base member upon deflection of the deflectable tab. 
 
     
     
         13 . The topical dosing dispenser of  claim 10  wherein the second base member includes a rim positioned and configured to extend inward with from an inner surface of a sidewall of the second base member and the first base member includes a corresponding rim positioned and configured to extend outward from an exterior surface of a sidewall of the first base member, and wherein the first base member is dimensioned and configured to be retained within the second base member when the rim of the first base member traverses the rim of the second base member. 
     
     
         14 . The topical dosing dispenser of  claim 13  wherein the rim of the second base member is segmented with each segment disposed between adjacent deflectable portions of the sidewall of the second base member. 
     
     
         15 . The topical dosing dispenser of  claim 14  wherein the rim of at least one of the second base member and the first base member includes an angled ramp surface to facilitate traversal of the rim of the first base member past the rim of the second base member. 
     
     
         16 . The topical dosing dispenser of  claim 10  further comprising:
 an applicator dimensioned and configured to be secured to a first end of the container body, the applicator including a top wall having an aperture for dispensing the flowable composition from the chamber of the container body; and 
 a cap dimensioned and configured to be secured over the applicator in a child resistant configuration, the cap including:
 a top wall for covering the aperture of the applicator when the cap is secured over the applicator, and 
 a circumferential sidewall having at least one child resistant engagement mechanism disposed on an interior surface of the sidewall, 
 
 wherein the at least one child resistant engagement mechanism of the cap is positioned and configured to engage a corresponding cap engagement mechanism in the child resistant configuration when the cap is secured over the applicator and a child-resistant action is required to disengage the at least one child resistant engagement mechanism from the corresponding cap engagement mechanism to remove the cap from the applicator. 
 
     
     
         17 . The topical dosing dispenser of  claim 16  wherein the sidewall of the cap includes at least one arm that is operable to be deflected downward upon a push-down action on the cap to disengage the at least one child resistant engagement mechanism from the corresponding cap engagement mechanism. 
     
     
         18 . A topical dosing dispenser comprising:
 a container body defining a chamber for housing a flowable composition, the container body including a first end and a second end;   an applicator configured to be operatively secured to the first end of the container body;   a child resistant closure system including a cap configured to be secured over the applicator in a child resistant configuration such that a child resistant action is required to remove the cap from the applicator; and   a child resistant rotatable base system configured to be operatively secured to the second end of the container body, the child resistant rotatable base system including an first base member and a second base member, the first base member configured to require a child resistant action to rotate the first base member using the second base member,   wherein rotation of the first base member is operable to dispense the flowable composition from the chamber through the applicator when the cap is removed from the applicator.   
     
     
         19 . The topical dosing dispenser of  claim 18  wherein:
 the first base member includes a sidewall and one or more second base member engagement mechanisms disposed along an exterior surface of the sidewall of the first base member, and 
 the second base member is configured to receive and retain the first base member, the second base member including:
 a sidewall disposed around the sidewall of the first base member, the side wall of the second base member positioned and configured to provide a radial gap between the sidewall of the second base member and the sidewall of the first base member, and the sidewall of the second base member including one or more deflectable portions that are operable to move from an undeflected position to a deflected position, and 
 one or more first base member engaging mechanisms disposed adjacent the one or more deflectable portions of the sidewall of the second base member, 
 
 wherein, when the one or more deflectable portions of the sidewall of the second base member are in the undeflected position, the second base member is configured to rotate independently of the first base member, and 
 wherein, when the one or more deflectable portions of the sidewall of the second base member are in the deflected position, the one or more first base member engaging mechanisms of the second base member are dimensioned and configured to traverse the radial gap between the sidewall of the second base member and the sidewall of the first base member to engage the one or more second base member engaging mechanisms of the first base member such that rotation of the second base member further rotates the first base member.
