Abstract
A sole for an article of footwear includes a cored midsole defining a top surface, a bottom surface, and a perimeter surface extending from the top surface to the bottom surface. The cored midsole defines apertures extending diagonally from the top surface of the cored midsole to the bottom surface of the cored midsole.

1 . An article of footwear comprising:
an upper; and a cored midsole coupled to the upper and comprising a plurality of apertures and a perimeter wall that forms at least a portion of a first aperture of the plurality of apertures, wherein the portion of the first aperture and the perimeter wall extend laterally outward from a top surface of the midsole to a bottom surface of the midsole.
2 . The article of footwear of claim 1 , wherein the perimeter wall has a consistent wall thickness from the top surface to the bottom surface such that the perimeter wall follows a shape of the plurality of apertures.
3 . The article of footwear of claim 2 , wherein the shape of the first aperture comprises a corner that forms a first protrusion in the perimeter wall.
4 . The article of footwear of claim 3 , wherein a second aperture of the plurality of apertures forms a second protrusion in the perimeter wall.
5 . The article of footwear of claim 2 , wherein the shape of the plurality of apertures forms an undulating perimeter surface in the perimeter wall.
6 . The article of footwear of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of apertures extend diagonally towards a rearfoot region as the plurality of apertures extend from the top surface to the bottom surface.
7 . The article of footwear of claim 6 , wherein the plurality of apertures extend between 55 degrees and 70 degrees relative to the bottom surface.
8 . The article of footwear of claim 6 , wherein the shape and position of the plurality of apertures is configured to provide a controlled collapse during impact to aid in forward movement relative to the bottom surface of the midsole.
9 . The article of footwear of claim 1 , wherein an area of the first aperture at the bottom surface is greater than an area of the first aperture at the top surface.
10 . The article of footwear of claim 1 , further comprising an outsole coupled to the midsole, wherein the outsole does not cover the plurality of apertures.
11 . A midsole for an article of footwear, the midsole comprising:
a perimeter surface extending from a top surface of the midsole and to a bottom surface of the midsole; and an aperture extending through the midsole from the top surface to the bottom surface, wherein the aperture is adjacent to the perimeter surface and a perimeter wall extends between the aperture and the perimeter surface, and wherein a portion of the aperture extends laterally outward as the aperture extends from the top surface to the bottom surface, wherein the perimeter surface follows an aperture shape such that the perimeter surface extends laterally outward as the perimeter surface extends from the top surface to the bottom surface.
12 . The midsole of claim 11 , wherein the aperture shape comprises at least one corner that forms a first protrusion in the perimeter surface.
13 . The midsole of claim 12 , wherein the aperture shape is triangular.
14 . The midsole of claim 12 , further comprising a second aperture extending through the midsole from the top surface to the bottom surface and adjacent to the perimeter surface, wherein the second aperture forms a second protrusion in the perimeter surface.
15 . The midsole of claim 11 , wherein the perimeter wall has a consistent wall thickness between the top surface and the bottom surface.
16 . The midsole of claim 11 , wherein the aperture extends diagonally towards a rearfoot region of the midsole as the aperture extends from the top surface to the bottom surface.
17 . The midsole of claim 16 , wherein the aperture extends between 55 degrees and 70 degrees relative to the bottom surface.
18 . The midsole of claim 11 , wherein the perimeter surface comprises at least one protrusion.
19 . The midsole of claim 11 , wherein an area of the aperture at the bottom surface is greater than an area of the aperture at the top surface.
