Abstract

A casting or casting components for a modification of a railcar includes at least one of i) a splice casting for a roll formed railcar center sill having a center section with the same profile as the exterior of the rolled formed railcar center sill with two end sections that telescope into the interior of spliced center sill sections, wherein the splice casting as a total weight is less than 100 LBS, and ii) a cast transition casting configured for positioning between a cold formed center sill and a draft arm of a railcar wherein the cast transition casting is less than 75 LBS.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . Casting for a modification of a railcar comprising:
 at least one of i) a splice casting for a roll formed railcar center sill having a center section with the same profile as the exterior of the rolled formed railcar center sill with two end sections that telescope into the interior of spliced center sill sections, wherein the splice casting as a total weight is less than 100 LBS, and ii) a cast transition casting configured for positioning between a cold formed center sill and a draft arm of a railcar wherein the cast transition casting is less than 75 LBS.   
     
     
         2 . The casting according to  claim 1  wherein the splice casting is included and the center section of the splice casting is less than 2′ in length. 
     
     
         3 . The casting according to  claim 1  wherein the splice casting is included and the center section of the splice casting is 6″-7″ in length. 
     
     
         4 . The casting according to  claim 1  wherein the splice casting and the cast transition casting are included. 
     
     
         5 . The casting according to  claim 4  wherein the cast transition casting is less than 55 LBS. 
     
     
         6 . The casting according to  claim 1  wherein the splice casting is included and has a total weight is less than 80 LBS. 
     
     
         7 . The casting according to  claim 6  wherein the center section of the splice casting is less than 2′ in length. 
     
     
         8 . The casting according to  claim 6  wherein the center section of the splice casting is 6″-7″ in length. 
     
     
         9 . The casting according to  claim 6  wherein the splice casting and the cast transition casting are included. 
     
     
         10 . The casting according to  claim 9  wherein the cast transition casting is less than 55 LBS. 
     
     
         11 . The casting according to  claim 1  wherein the splice casting is included and has a total weight is less than 75 LBS. 
     
     
         12 . The casting according to  claim 11  wherein the center section of the splice casting is less than 2′ in length. 
     
     
         13 . The casting according to  claim 11  wherein the center section of the splice casting is 6″-7″ in length. 
     
     
         14 . The casting according to  claim 11  wherein the splice casting and the cast transition casting are included. 
     
     
         15 . The casting according to  claim 14  wherein the cast transition casting is less than 55 LBS. 
     
     
         16 . The casting according to  claim 1  wherein the cast transition casting is included and is less than 55 LBS. 
     
     
         17 . A splice casting for a roll formed railcar center sill having a center section with the same profile as the exterior of the rolled formed railcar center sill with two end sections that telescope into the interior of spliced center sill sections, wherein the splice casting as a total weight is less than 100 LBS. 
     
     
         18 . The splice casting according to  claim 17  wherein the splice casting as a total weight is less than 75 LBS. 
     
     
         19 . A cast transition casting configured for positioning between a cold formed center sill and a draft arm of a railcar wherein the cast transition casting is less than 75 LBS. 
     
     
         20 . The cast transition casting according to  claim 19  wherein the cast transition casting as a total weight is less than 55 LBS.
