Abstract
A release mechanism assembly for a stock of a firearm may comprise a first member, a first release mechanism, and a second release mechanism. The first release mechanism and the second release mechanism may be collectively configured to selectively prevent and allow the stock to move from a fully extended state to a partially extended state, and from the partially extended state to a fully collapsed state. The first release mechanism and the second release mechanism may be each configured to move with the first member while the stock moves between the fully extended state, the partially extended state, and the fully collapsed state.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedWhat is claimed is:
1 . A release mechanism assembly for a stock of a firearm, the release mechanism assembly comprising:
a first member; a first release mechanism; and a second release mechanism, wherein:
the first release mechanism and the second release mechanism are collectively configured to selectively prevent and allow the stock to move from a fully extended state to a partially extended state, and from the partially extended state to a fully collapsed state, and
the first release mechanism and the second release mechanism are each configured to move with the first member while the stock moves between the fully extended state, the partially extended state, and the fully collapsed state.
2 . The release mechanism assembly of claim 1 , wherein the first release mechanism and the second release mechanism are integral with the first member.
3 . The release mechanism assembly of claim 1 , wherein the first release mechanism and the second release mechanism are collectively configured to rigidly hold the stock in the fully extended state.
4 . The release mechanism assembly of claim 1 , wherein actuation of the first release mechanism allows the first member to move between a first position and a second position.
5 . The release mechanism assembly of claim 1 , wherein the first release mechanism comprises a movable component that is coupled to a wedge member that is configured to move with the movable component.
6 . The release mechanism assembly of claim 5 , wherein the wedge member comprises a surface that extends at an angle relative to a longitudinal direction.
7 . The release mechanism assembly of claim 6 , wherein the angle is at least fifty degrees and up to seventy degrees.
8 . The release mechanism assembly of claim 1 , wherein:
the first member is configured to be slidingly engaged with a forward guide rod of the stock, and the first release mechanism comprises a deflectable component that is configured to move from a first depression to a second depression of the forward guide rod in an instance in which the first member is moved from a collapsed position to an extended position.
9 . The release mechanism assembly of claim 1 , wherein the first member comprises a cheek rest surface that extends circumferentially around a longitudinal axis at least 90 degrees.
10 . The release mechanism assembly of claim 1 , wherein the second release mechanism comprises at least one movable component configured to move in a lateral direction.
11 . The release mechanism assembly of claim 1 , wherein the second release mechanism is configured to selectively prevent and allow a second member of the stock to move from an extended position to a collapsed position.
12 . The release mechanism assembly of claim 11 , wherein the first member is configured to be at least partially nested within the second member in an instance in which the second member is in the collapsed position.
13 . The release mechanism assembly of claim 11 , wherein:
the first member comprises a cheek rest surface that extends circumferentially around a longitudinal axis at least 90 degrees, and the second member comprises a cheek rest surface that extends circumferentially around the longitudinal axis at least 90 degrees.
14 . The release mechanism assembly of claim 11 , wherein:
the second release mechanism is configured to be in a first position and in a second position, in an instance in which the second release mechanism is in the first position, the second release mechanism is configured to prevent a movement of the second member along a longitudinal axis relative to the first member, and in an instance in which the second release mechanism is in the second position, the second release mechanism is configured to allow the movement of the second member along the longitudinal axis relative to the first member.
15 . The release mechanism assembly of claim 11 , wherein:
the first member is configured to be at least partially nested around a tube of the stock in an instance in which the first member is in the collapsed position, the first member is configured to be slidingly engaged with a forward guide rod and an aft guide rod of the stock, the forward guide rod is positioned exterior to the tube, and wherein the first member is configured such that in an instance in which the second member is in the extended position, and the second member is positioned at least partially aft of the first member.
16 . The release mechanism assembly of claim 11 , wherein:
the first release mechanism is configured to selectively prevent and allow the first member of the stock to move from an extended position to a collapsed position, and the first member is configured to be at least partially nested around a tube of the stock in an instance in which the first member is in the collapsed position.
17 . The release mechanism assembly of claim 16 , wherein:
the first member is configured such that in an instance in which the second member is in the extended position, the second member is positioned at least partially aft of the first member, and the first member is configured to be nested within the second member in an instance in which the second member is in the collapsed position.
18 . A stock for a firearm, the firearm having a main body, the stock comprising:
a mount that is configured to be coupled to the main body of the firearm; and a release mechanism assembly that is configured to move along a longitudinal axis between a collapsed position and an extended position, wherein the release mechanism assembly comprises:
a first member;
a first release mechanism; and
a second release mechanism,
wherein:
the first release mechanism and the second release mechanism are configured to move with the first member, and
the first release mechanism and the second release mechanism are collectively configured to selectively prevent and allow the stock to move from a fully extended state to a partially extended state, and from the partially extended state to a fully collapsed state.
19 . A firearm comprising:
a main body comprising a lower receiver; a tube that is coupled to the lower receiver; and a stock that defines a longitudinal axis and at least partially extends circumferentially around the tube, wherein the stock comprises:
a mount that is configured to be coupled to the main body of the firearm; and
a release mechanism assembly that is configured to move along a longitudinal axis between a collapsed position and an extended position, wherein the release mechanism assembly comprises:
a first member;
a first release mechanism; and
a second release mechanism,
wherein:
the first release mechanism and the second release mechanism are configured to move with the first member, and
the first release mechanism and the second release mechanism are collectively configured to selectively prevent and allow the stock to move from a fully extended state to a partially extended state, and from the partially extended state to a fully collapsed state.
20 . The firearm of claim 19 , wherein in an instance in which the stock is in the fully collapsed state, the first member is at least partially nested around the tube.Cited by (0)
